Hey, Luke! Wanna Make Out?

Lorelai walked into Luke's diner. She looked around, looking for Luke. She spotted the diner man taking some one's order, so she took her seat at the counter.

Luke walked back to the register on the opposite end of the counter from Lorelai, not noticing her.

Deciding to make her presence known, Lorelai got up and moved to the stool closest to the register. And blurted "Hey Luke, wanna make out?"

Then immediately regretted it, thinking 'Wow. Stupid stupid stupid me! I'm such an idiot! What was I thinking? Well, I was thinking that Luke looks really good today and—wait! No! Luke is just a friend. Yeah. Keep telling yourself that. Luke is just a friend…. Luke is just a friend….'

Meanwhile in Luke's head… 'She wants to make out with me! She wants to make out with me!' His inner voice sang, while his face expressed pure shock, which made Lorelai nervous. 'Wait!' the singing came to a screeching halt. 'She was probably kidding! Yeah, that's it. It was a joke. Calm down Luke.'

"…What?" he finally managed to say (out loud), after what seemed like an eternity.

She laughed nervously, then said, "I was just kidding Luke."

"Oh, right… yeah. I knew that" he replied, flustered.

'Damn! She was just joking!' said the voice in his head.

She looked at him skeptically "Right… so, can I have coffee now?"

"No," was his answer, as always.

"Please Lukey!"

"Don't call me that!"

"Call you what?" she asked, feigning innocence.

Luke grunted and poured her a cup of coffee.

"So, did you get that loan?" he asked.

"What loan?"

"The one for the house." he explained.

"What house? I don't have a house, Luke." She said, trying to confuse him.

"The house that you're gonna buy!" he answered, exasperated.

"Ooooh. Why didn't you say so?" She asked, highly amused.

"I did." He deadpanned.

"Hmm…" she said as if thinking it over seriously, "Yeah. I guess you did"

There was a comfortable silence between them.

Lorelai finished her coffee and stood up, saying, "Well, I gotta get back to work. See ya later!"

He nodded at her and watched as she waked out the door.

At the corner table, Miss Patty looked at Luke, thinking, 'Why can't they see it…'
