Disclaimer: Oh yeah, I own it. Well I dreamed I owned it. Actually come to think of it, I don't think they let me have it in the dream either. So, still not mine.
Author Notes: Just a short little drabbly piece. For Stamina Pendragon who is so right, I do like Warren, cause he's easy to toy with.
Scream
Warren Peace is nothing like you would imagine him to be. I know this, I am his friend. You might be surprised to know, he doesn't tell me much more than he tells anyone else. Just because I'm his friend doesn't mean I'm privy to much information. I don't need him to say it though. I can read it in his eyes, and body language at this point. He's lowered his sheilds a little.
Sometimes, Warren just wants to scream. I can see it in how he moves, speak. He gets so tired, he just wants to scream, as loudly and long as he can. Scream at the idiots who throw insults at him, and scream at the people who look at him terrified. I think he wants to scream because he would never cry. The others don't notice, but I do. They can't get through his sheilds yet. He never realized we would become attached to him when he helped out Will and myself. We caught him off gaurd, and Zack, Ethan, and Magenta easily slipped into his world as well.
He tries to protect us as he would siblings. It takes a toll on him, I can see it. When he steps in for Ethan, or backs up Will. The reaction he gets, the students are still afraid. After he's proven his good heart, they still fear him.
He says it doesn't bother him.
It does bother him. I can see it when a freshman squeeks and backs away before bolting. Or when someone glances against him, the fear that lingers in their eyes for a few moments before they try and escape. It gets under his skin because people are afraid of him.
I think all Warren really ever wanted, was to be left alone. Not to have practically every superhero and supervillian know who he was. I think that's why he and Will became friends. They both felt that pressure. The difference is, the pressure is different.
Will's pressure is to be like his family. The Stronghold Three. Fighting crime as a family. He was lucky, he got both of his parents power, his fathers super strength, and his mothers flight. They would have been disappointed if his powers had never arrived, but they wouldn't have changed their treatment.
Warren's pressure is to not become like his father. He feels that everyday. I think Warren would have been happy if he never had gotten his powers. We don't talk about his father. Not ever. I think he's afraid of it, of becoming like him. The pressure must be so heavy on his shoulders. I wish there was something I could do to help releive that burden sometimes.
I suppose Warren has two powers as well, I never thought to ask. Of course he has his flames, but he can take a hit. A hit that should heave you bleeding and broken, he stands up from. He crashes through walls and gets right back up. He can take a physical blow. What about a emotional one? Don't get me wrong, Warren would never fall apart. He'd never let anyone see him cry, but Warren tends to brood. Sometimes I worry what he's thinking about.
I wish I could tell him just to scream. Scream as loud and as long as he needs to. To pull at his hair, or punch the ground, anything he needs to do to release some of the stress he keeps so locked up.
He's in a bit of a mood today. He's quiet, quiet even for Warren. Will is shooting him concerned looks, but we all know not to intrude when he's thinking. His face is lined ever so slightly, like he's thinking about something he doesn't want to be. The look on his face shifts slightly and I recognize it right away.
He looks like he wants to scream.
Well that's it. Odd little piece, but it wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it.
