AN: First I would like to get the disclaimer out of the way: I do not own any part of the show Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir, or it's characters, this is purely for fun. Second, I would like to give acknowledgement to the lovely and talented zoe-oneesama. It was her comics that inspired this plot, because when I read them, I was thinking of how I wished her version happened as well as the original. So, I will also say that I do not own anything in reference to her work, and I will do my best to respect it. I highly recommend checking it out. I hope all who take the time to read this will enjoy themselves.

Chapter 1: Divider
.
What would have been a simple quiet evening in Paris, was actually filled with many people panicking and running through the streets. The cause of it was the latest akuma that called itself Divider, which was a man that was able to multiply himself to become his own personal army. His clones would group together to perform several different tasks.
"Smash Those Windows!" one group of the akuma started together.
"Flip the Bus!" another screamed.
"Scale the Tower!"
"FIND LADYBUG AND CHAT NOIR!"
Some of the akuma formed an orderly fashion of about twenty at a time, and took to the streets. They searched high and low for the pair of Paris' heroes, and so far nothing. Shadowmoth had been growing restless in trying to obtain the two miraculous jewels, and continued to create more challenging akumas to defeat them. So far it seemed like Divider was not being challenged.
"Come out Ladybug and Chat Noir! Come out and FIGHT!" one group shouted in sync under the Eiffel Tower.
"Okay, you asked for it!" a new voice called out in the distance.
Chat Noir came down from above, collided himself with the Divider clones, and used his baton to disperse the group. Some of them tried to grab the cat, but he quickly defended them off, knocking most of them over. When they started to overpower him, he used his baton to leap away from them, and made a run for it down the street, making sure they followed him. It wasn't another block before the whole group of Dividers were caught on a strong wire held by Ladybug. When they were knocked out, they disappeared into a puff of smoke, only to be replaced by the next group heading toward the heroes.
"Watch out, Kitty, here comes more of them." Ladybug called out, retracting her yoyo to have it ready as a spinning shield.
"I'm with you, Milady." he stood ready right by her side.
"Give Up Your Miraculous!" the soldiers called out, charging the duo.
Ladybug and Chat Noir charged after them as well. Chat Noir gave himself a head start by pollvolting over to the group to get in the center again. He then extended his stick, held it over his shoulders, and spun around to hit them, and force them to collide with each other. Some of them got knocked out or crushed, causing them to vanish. Chat then shortened the staff to his standard length and continued to fend them off a few at a time.
Ladybug did her part by using a light post to swing at some of the soldiers to give them some good solid kicks. She then wrapped her yoyo around one of the Dividers, and used their force to hit them against other soldiers. This worked for a while thanks to her miraculous strength.
The heroic duo was able to keep this up for a while, but it seemed like no matter how many of the Divider copies they got rid of, more came in their place. Ladybug was starting to lose her footing being surrounded by so many of the akumas. At one point her yoyo wasn't giving her the advantage, except to swing out of danger. Finally, one of the soldiers had grabbed her, and a few others were trying to keep her still.
"Grab her miraculous!" they all said at once. Ladybug could only struggle as one of the Divider reached for her earrings.
"No! Chat Noir, HELP!" she called for her partner.
"Cataclysm!" Chat Noir acted quickly by dropping down and touching the cobbled road they were all standing on.
The roadway easily started to crumble and cave in into the sewers below. Several of the soldiers fell with it, vanishing after being hit by the rubble. This gave Ladybug the opportunity to fight her way out of her captures grip and swing away on her yoyo before getting caught in the wreckage herself. When she got to stable ground and saw her kitty had leapt away safely as well, she witnessed a good number of Dividers had fallen into the cataclysm. However, there were several larger groups headed straight for them, and her partner didn't have much time left with his powers.
"Chat Noir, we need to pull back!" she called out to him.
"Right!" he agreed, pulling out his baton to leap away to the top of a building, Ladybug following right behind him.
"You Can't Hide from Us Ladybug and Chat Noir! We will find you and take your miraculous!" all of the remaining Dividers shouted at once.
Ladybug and Chat Noir took refuge on a secluded rooftop in a part of Paris that Divider hadn't reached yet, but it was only a matter of time. Ladybug hadn't used her lucky charm yet, so she was good to take a breather. Chat Noir on the other hand, was down to his last paw.
"Pardonnez-moi, milady." he dashed behind a chimney and let himself detransform. "Here you go, Plagg." he have his kwami some camembert.
"This is pretty serious, Chat. I don't know how much longer we can hold off Divider. Maybe I should gather up some other users." she started pacing, trying to think of a plan. Should she risk using the heroes again after they had been exposed to Shadowmoth? Maybe she should just unify one with her and Chat to give themselves a better advantage.
"Did you try your lucky charm yet?" Chat asked, still hidden from view.
"No, not yet, I didn't have the right moment for it. I'm not even sure what good it would do with so many of the same akuma to fight."
"Plagg, claws out." Chat Noir called out, then came from behind the chimney to face his lady again. "The lucky charm never failed you before, and the multiple Dividers disappear when you defeat them, so we know this isn't like with Megaleech and the endless akumas." he pointed out.
"Yeah, you're right, I guess it's worth a shot. Lucky charm!" she threw her yoyo up, and was returned with a polka dotted pair of binoculars. "Okay, so what do I do with this? Scope out all the copies and look for the source?"
"I don't see how, they all work in sync like a trained army. It's like those bring down the fort games."
Her partners words got the wheels turning in Ladybug's head. "What if this is exactly like those games."
"What do you mean, milady?" he asked confused.
"Well, it's like you said, this isn't like Megaleech, and I was thinking it was more like when Scarletmoth happened, but what if its more simple than that. When we fought them, there was never one Divider that spoke up alone, it was always several in sync."
Chat Noir thought about it. "So, the original is ordering the clones around in groups, and their acting as a whole?"
"And the spawner is watching from somewhere. Somewhere they can view the battlefield and decide when and where to send more soldiers." she added.
"It would have to be a high viewpoint to find us, and send the soldiers to attack. The Eiffel Tower maybe?" Chat looked in that direction.
"No that's too obvious." she looked at the binoculars, then the tower, and then at the new set of Dividers that were coming in their direction. "But I bet if we look up there ourselves, we can see which direction their coming from." Ladybug then pulled out her yoyo, and swung to the tower with her partner not far behind her.
They were able to make short work of the rest of the fight once the akuma was located. It had been hiding inside the news station to keep a better eye on its replicas while controlling them, because it was a more difficult task since it was one person controlling an army simultaneously. Chat Noir provided a welcomed distraction as Ladybug got a hold of the akumatized object and purified the butterfly.
"Miraculous Ladybug!" A great wave of magic insects spread all over the city repairing the damage. The man that remained from Divider looked around in confusion, only to find the two heroes of Paris doing the traditional fist bump. "Pound it."
Chat Noir made sure that the akuma victim got somewhere safe while Ladybug ducked away for a moment to recharge. He took a quick look around the city to make sure everything was back to normal. He got a little worried about the road when he used his cataclysm, but it was good to see that his lady's magic repaired the damage. He saw that Ladybug was heading in his direction, and they both went back to their spot on the Eiffel Tower to do a bit of briefing.
Halfway there, Ladybug was swinging along when a strange sensation passed through her. It was like a sudden wave of uneasiness and imbalance just washed from her head to her toes. If she hadn't been Ladybug at the moment, she was sure that as Marinette she would've had a very clumsy fall from whatever that feeling was. She looked around for anything that could have cause it. Was it another akuma? Did something go wrong with the miraculous ladybug? She wasn't sure. Everything seemed normal, at least normal enough after a battle.
When they reached the tower, Ladybug turned to her partner and asked. "Chat, did you feel anything weird a minute ago?"
"Weird how, bugaboo?" he looked at her confused.
"I don't know, it was like all of the sudden I had a really strange feeling." she tried to explain.
"Do you still have that feeling?" he asked concerned.
"No, I don't. Maybe it was just my imagination." she tried to dismiss the whole thing.
"Or..."
"Or what, Chat?"
"Or maybe your feline-nally starting to accept the undeniable spark between us." he gave her his classic flirtatious smirk. "It's only a matter of time before you declare your undying love for me."
"Ugh Chat, when will you give up?" she grunted. However, hearing him do his typical flirting had made her feel better, not that she'd ever admit it to him.
"Never milady, you and I are certain. Be it partners in crime fighting, or anything more if I had my way. It's you and me against the world after all." he smiled at her.
"Always." she agreed.
They talked about the latest akuma, and tried to think about any possible strategies they could use in case Shadowmoth ever tried something similar, or made some more repeat akumas. They were able to have more of an advantage ever since Ladybug started giving the akuma victims magical charms to protect them. It was nice to not have to worry about Mr. Pigeon anymore, or Chloe, she gave one to little August as well, so his tantrums were now standard. Ladybug did have to be more cautious about who she gave a miraculous to. Alya had to give hers back for the time being because Shadowmoth came to close at one point to learning that she had hers permanently. So for now it was back to just Ladybug and Chat Noir. If she were being honest, she didn't mind it being like how it was in the beginning. She enjoyed the times she had with her partner, and being the guardian caused her to create a rift between them that she didn't want to exist. So, she was grateful that she could have this chance to patch some things up, because Chat Noir really was the only partner she could ever want.
They talked for a little while longer before running and jumping along the rooftop of Paris again. They were going to do a quick patrol before going back to their civilian lives. Luckily everything seemed quiet, until they came across a shouting match that was between Officer Raincomprix and another man. Normally they wouldn't have interfered with normal police work, but after a few minutes of them shouting they heard stuff like an akuma running by and damaging his car. This caught Ladybug's attention. Shouldn't the cure have repaired everything? They leaped down to the two men to investigate.
