The itsy bitsy spider went up the waterspout
Where is that coming from, Ginny thought as she entered her house. As she got closer to the stairs, the sound became louder.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
It must be Lily thought Ginny and she smiled.
She really loved her daughter. Loved everything about her, too, from her straight black hair, to her chocolate brown eyes. Lily was, in her opinion, the perfect five-year-old girl. Ginny entered her daughter's room and saw Lily sitting on her bed with her hands over her head singing.
"Out came the sun and dried up all the rain. Hi, mummy!" Lily stopped singing and ran over to hug her mother. "Mummy, Daddy taught me this song. Look!" She then proceeded to sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider to her mother.
"That's really great Lily," Ginny said as she grinned at her daughter.
"Sing it with me, mummy!" Lily pleaded.
"I would honey, but I don't know how it goes," explained Ginny.
"I'll teach you just like Daddy taught me, then!" responded Lily with glee.
First, the five-year-old grabbed her mother's hands and connected each hands thumb to the other hands pinky. Lily then put her hand the same way and rotated her hands so that it looked like something was crawling up.
"You do this when you sing 'The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout'. Then you go 'Down came the rain and washed the spider out' so you wiggle your fingers like this, and then this." Lily then proceeded to wiggle her fingers and made a motion that could only be described as "whoosh" to show her mother what to do.
"Now put your hands over your head and go 'Out came the sun and dried up all the rain' and then you do the crawling thing again for 'and the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again'. Now let's do it together, mummy!" Lily squealed.
Ginny still hadn't got the hang of the crawling, but she tried and Lily kept correcting her on how to sing the song. Ginny didn't notice when a pair of manly hands went on top of hers and helped her to crawl correctly.
"Now you've got it," a smiling Harry said to his wife.
"Daddy!" Lily screamed and jumped up to hug her father. "Mummy doesn't do the itsy bitsy spider good. She puts her hands all wrong and sings the wrong words."
Laughing, Harry responded, "I know Lily; your mother was never very good at singing."
Ginny took offense to her husband's comment and smacked him upside the head with the nearest pillow. This caused him to grab a pillow and smack Ginny back, but he missed and got Lily. So Lily picked up her little pillow and went to attack her father with her mother's ferocity. Ginny and her daughter cornered Harry and he finally gave up. He smothered his daughter with little kisses and sweetly pecked Ginny on the mouth.
"Let's sing the spider song again!" Lily exclaimed. "And daddy, you help mummy with it."
"Okay hon." Harry said and grabbed his wife's hands to help her through the song.
