The chocolate-eyed boy lay on his back, enjoying the warm sunlight. He yawned lazily, turning up the sound on his orange CD player. Bobbing his head to the music, he reached in his pocket for a stick of gum. He popped it into his mouth and chewed avidly. He concentrated, manipulating his tongue, and blew a large pink bubble. He kept it for as long as he could, but it eventually popped. Not to be discouraged, he blew another one, which soon had the same fate.
" Yoh."
The chocolate-eyed boy tilted his head, looking up to see his friend. A smile broke out over his face. " Ren."
The Chinese boy crossed his arms. " Anna wants you back in half an hour to make dinner."
" Cool." Yoh's eyes crinkled as his smile widened. " Hey." He put out a hand as Ren made to jog away. " Where're you going?"
Ren pursed his lips. " I'm on a jog. That's why I came out. He gestured to his clothes, sweatpants and a muscle shirt.
" Stay a bit. Have some gum." Yoh offered a stick of aluminium foil-wrapped gum.
Ren raised an eyebrow.
Yoh grinned innocently, a pink orb blossoming from his lips. When it had burst, he waved the gum under Ren's nose. " Can you beat that?"
" Beat what?" Ren cocked his head, confused.
" My bubble! Can you blow one bigger?" Yoh laughed, as if to say 'duh!'
Ren stared at the stick warily. He'd never blown a bubble before. Heck, he'd only chewed gum twice in his life.
Yoh noticed his hesitance. " What? Chicken?"
Ren snatched the gum instantly, his cheeks burning. " No way! I'm not afraid of anything!"
Yoh merely laughed, observing the Chinese shaman with half-closed eyes. Ren felt a bit uncomfortable with the other boy staring, but he decided not to say anything. He chewed the gum, softening it…and then stopped. He had no idea how to blow a bubble.
Yoh laughed again, noting Ren's problem. " You smoothen the gum over your tongue, and then push with the tip of your tongue. Then you blow."
" I know that!" Ren snapped, lying. He then followed Yoh's advice, his eyes crossing a bit as he tried to look at his mouth. He did the steps…and then blew. Nothing happened.
" That was a fluke! I wasn't ready!" He cried, trying again. Same result.
" That doesn't count!"
" One more!"
" Wait! I can do it!"
And on it went, Ren stammering excuses and Yoh just watching, amused.
" Look." Yoh said finally. " Smoothen, push, blow." A perfect pink bubbled formed.
Ren frowned. " Did you give me real instructions?"
" Yes." Yoh stood up, dusting off his knees. " It's okay if you can't do it. Lots of people can't."
" I am a Tao." Ren stated hotly. " A bubble can't defeat me!"
Yoh laughed. " Okay, whatever." He leaned closer to Ren, lacing a hand on his shoulder.
" W – what are you doing?" Ren backed up a step.
Yoh smiled his lazy, trademark smile. " Showing you how to blow a bubbled." And with that, he kissed his friend. Ren was frozen in shock as Yoh nipped his bottom lip, gaining access to the other shaman's mouth.
His tongue explored Ren's mouth, pushing slightly. He touched the wad of gum still there and began kneading it with his tongue. When it was flat, he spread it across Ren's tongue, flicking it suggestively. He helped Ren push the gum, tongues twisting together.
Then, Yoh pulled apart. " Blow." He said, smiling softly.
Ren, still taken aback, blew. And a small pink sphere slipped out…and burst.
" Mine was bigger." Yoh winked.
Ren could only blush, his cheeks flaming.
