The Pain of Future Wrongs – Chapter 28

Everyone just froze in their positions as Mokrian attacked Wyatt. Caught completely unprepared, Wyatt was unable to fight back and his screams of agony filled the manor. After several minutes, Mokrian finally withdrew his hands from Wyatt's back. Mokrian glowed for several seconds while Wyatt slumped to the floor. Immediately, Wyatt struggled to his feet.

"You fool!" he yelled. "You think you can go against me?" He lashed out his hand towards Mokrian but was horrified when nothing happened.

"What's the matter, Wyatt?" Mokrian taunted.

"What did you do?" Wyatt demanded, not understanding why he had no powers.

"Nothing fancy," Mokrian answered. "Other than the fact that I've absorbed all of your powers."

"You're lying!"

"You really are a fool, Wyatt," Mokrian scoffed. "You think that a demon of my calibre would be happy being at your beck and call? The only reason I worked for you was to put my plan into motion."

"What plan?" Wyatt asked disbelievingly.

"To take your place as the ruler of all evil," Mokrian laughed maniacally.

Wyatt was furious and without thinking, he lunged at Mokrian. The demon flung his arms at his former master, sending him flying into the wall. Immediately, chains emerged from the wall, effectively binding the helpless Wyatt there, putting him on display for everyone in the room.

The demise of Wyatt's magic meant that both Leo and the Charmed Ones were no longer trapped in their invisible cages. Immediately, Piper ran over to Chris, wanting to see the seriousness of his wounds.

"Don't," Chris glared at her before she could get close enough to touch him.

Piper felt like she got slapped in the face by Chris' response. She wasn't mad; she knew she deserved it. But her son's reaction was no less painful for her to endure.

"You're not going to get away with this, Mokrian," Chris threatened, his eyes fixed on the demon.

"Christopher, I'm shocked," Mokrian replied with a hurt expression. "I would've thought that you would be happy with my gift to you. After all, isn't this what you've wanted all along? To have Wyatt Halliwell at your mercy?"

"That's between Wyatt and myself and is none of your business, Mokrian. And unlike you, I don't take pleasure in other people's sufferings."

Mokrian laughed at the comment. "Always the pure and good one," he observed. "Wyatt always thought you were incorruptible."

Chris glanced at Wyatt to see him glaring back at Mokrian. Wyatt was furious but he had since given up on trying to free himself from the magical chains.

"Chris, remember all the times that Wyatt took advantage of you? Blamed you for things you never did? Ridiculed you? Are you going to pretend all of that never happened?" Mokrian continued.

Chris snickered. "I know what you're trying to pull, Mokrian. I'm afraid that's an overused tactic."

"Oh really? What about how Wyatt killed your best friends? Alex, Eric, Kyle, Jeremy, and the list goes on and on..."

Mokrian smirked as Chris body tensed with each name being read. Of course Chris remembered how Wyatt had killed his friends. They all died because of their loyalty to Chris. They were brutally tortured and murdered and in the case of Alex and Kyle, Chris was forced to watch them die. "You got what you wanted, so why don't you leave while you still can?"

Piper and Leo watched with alarm, knowing what Mokrian was trying to do. They instinctively wanted to tell Chris to ignore Mokrian but they knew that they had both lost the right to give Chris any advice.

Chris was horrified that the feelings of hatred that he had tried so long to bury and defeat were quickly overpowering him. He willed himself to fight them but Mokrian was stirring up so many memories...bad memories.

"And then of course there was Ryan. Look at what Wyatt did to your beloved brother. Is this how someone should treat their brother? If you hadn't come back in time, Ryan would be dead by now."

Chris glared at Wyatt with a cold stare. For the first time in a long time, fear crept into Wyatt Halliwell's mind. He could see it in Chris' face. His younger brother was angry. His younger brother hated him. And now, his younger brother had the power and the opportunity to exact revenge and destroy him once and for all.

"Leave, Mokrian," Chris said in a low, steady voice. "I'm not going to ask again."

Paige and Phoebe could see their nephew struggling to maintain composure. They moved towards him and placed their hands on his shoulder. Only then did they realize that Chris was trembling. Paige thought Chris was trembling from fear, but Phoebe knew that he was trembling from rage.

"Chris, fight this," Phoebe advised. "Don't let him get to you."

Mokrian looked at the Charmed Ones' display with interest. "And you're going to let these people, the very same people who abandoned you, to tell you what to do?" Chris remained silent as Mokrian continued to rant. "All your life, you had been the better son, and yet everyone treated Wyatt like he was the centre of the universe. You? You were just pushed aside. An annoyance. The 'other' son. Did they ever give you the attention and love that you deserved? They even kicked you out of the house, thinking that you had killed your sister without even letting you explain. And your so- called father. He murdered the love of your life. How can you forgive him and let her die in vain?"

Leo held Piper tightly as they cried together. As much as they hated to admit it, Mokrian was right. Who were they to tell Chris what to do? They were never there for him. They favoured Wyatt over Chris over and over again. They never believed him, distrusted him, and basically treated him horribly. And now, Chris had the power to avenge all the injustice that had been done to him. Did either Piper or himself have the right to ask Chris to do otherwise?

Chris clenched his fists tightly and Wyatt renewed his struggle to free himself. Ryan looked on in fear, but still too weak to do anything. Paige and Phoebe stepped back, as they felt Chris rage begin to spin out of control. Lightning bolts crashed into the earth and golf-sized hail pelted the city. Chris lashed out his right hand, sending a massive energy ball towards Wyatt and another towards the Charmed Ones.

Wyatt screamed in terror and the Charmed Ones clenched their eyes shut, bracing for their destruction. The energy ball slammed into the wall, inches from Wyatt's head. Similarly, the other energy ball crashed through the window, breezing by the Charmed Ones by mere inches. At once, the skies cleared and the hail stopped.

"Enough, Mokrian," Chris declared. "You and your pathetic tricks are growing tiresome."

Now, it was Mokrian who was furious. "Impossible! How could you not turn even after all that? How??"

"I told you he was incorruptible, you fool!" Wyatt spat, speaking up for the first time since having his power stripped.

Mokrian responded by sending a bolt of electricity into Wyatt, causing him to cry out in pain. "Very well, Christopher. If you want to play this foolish game, I'll play with you."

"What is it that you want, Mokrian?"

"Now Christopher, you're in no position to ask for anything. And anyways, I'm doing you a favour. Since you won't kill Wyatt, I'll do it for you!"

"NO!!" Chris shouted, causing Wyatt to look surprisingly at his younger brother. Chris never ceased to amaze him. He was convinced that Chris would jump at the chance to destroy him and yet here he was, trying to prevent Mokrian from sealing his fate.

"Don't tell me you want me to spare his sorry life!"

Chris looked to the floor, not believing that he was pleading for Wyatt's life. After all that his brother had done to him, was he willing to give up this chance to avenge the deaths of so many innocents? "I am," Chris said softly.

"Even after everything he has done to you? Turned your family against you? Killed all your friends?"

"I know what he did!" Chris hollered. "Just leave him alone," he added in a tired voice.

Mokrian's eyes gleamed as he sensed an interesting opportunity. "I'll have to see how sincere you are about your request, Chris."

Chris looked at Mokrian with weary eyes. He knew he should hate Wyatt, but somehow, seeing him powerless rekindled the feelings of brotherly love that he used to feel for his older brother. He felt confused, but he had no energy left to fight those feelings. "What do you want?"

"To start off, why don't you get on your knees and beg me for his life?"

"Don't push it, Mokrian," Leo said angrily as he looked at the demon's arrogant smile.

"Do as I say or Wyatt dies!!"

Fighting back tears, Chris fell on his knees in front of Mokrian. "Please let Wyatt go," he whispered.

Mokrian came forward and roughly grabbed Chris' hair. "I said beg me!!!"

Chris flinched from the demon's rough handling. "Mokrian, I'm begging you....begging you to let Wyatt go."

The Charmed Ones held each other in a tight hug as Piper sobbed. Her heart broke into a million pieces as she watched her son endure the humiliation just to save Wyatt's life.

Wyatt, meanwhile, felt a strange and foreign sensation. For the first time in many, many years, he felt heartache, and he felt tears in his eyes. These were two feelings that had long disappeared from his life.

Mokrian laughed, enjoying his newfound power trip. He walked to the cabinet and took out two wine bottles. He threw them to the floor, shattering them. "Now, Chris, why don't you crawl over here and beg me again for his life and maybe I'll grant your request."

Ryan, who by now had regained enough strength, prepared to charge at Mokrian, only to be held back by Chris. "Don't, Ryan..."

"Chris..."

Chris did as he was told and crawled over to Mokrian. His hands and knees were pierced by the broken glass and he had to use all his strength to prevent himself from crying out. He refused to give Mokrian the satisfaction of seeing him in pain.

"Chris!!" Piper cried out, sobbing in sorrow.

Wyatt was crying openly now. He had never expected this to happen, but miraculously, his younger brother had managed to free a part of him that he thought was long dead. "Chris..." he whispered as he watched his brother suffer because of him.

"Please, Mokrian. I'm begging you...Spare Wyatt..." he said, his voice choked by his tears.

"Very touching," Mokrian mocked. "You've truly impressed me and this has been very entertaining but I'm afraid I can't spare him. You see, I can't take this chance. As long as I destroy one of Piper Halliwell's three sons, there will not be a new Power of Three in the future."

Chris rose to his feet, blood dripping all over his wounds. "You're a sick bastard!!!" he yelled as he prepared to strike the demon.

In the blink of an eye, Mokrian held both Ryan and Wyatt in a devastating choke hold. "You do that and I'll kill both Ryan and Wyatt," Mokrian warned, causing Chris to step back and lower his hand. "In recognition of the entertainment you've provided me today, I'll let you have the honour of choosing, Chris," Mokrian continued. "Who do you want to save...Ryan or Wyatt?"

Chris stared at Mokrian in shock, refusing to believe that the demon was making him choose between his siblings.

"Don't make me wait, Chris," the demon said impatiently. I want you to use your energy balls to kill either Wyatt or Ryan. One shall die and one shall live. One of Piper Halliwell's son must be killed to ensure my safety in the future. You have five seconds to choose or I'll kill them both..."

"You can't do this!" Piper shouted, trying to lunge at Mokrian but held by back her sobbing sisters.

"Watch me, witch!" he shot back with an evil smile.

"Five seconds, Chris...choose who will live and who will die...four...three...two..."
