The Pain of Future Wrongs – Chapter 37

The Elders, furious at Chris' disregard of their warnings, began to chant an ancient spell. Leo's eyes widened in horror as he realized what was about to happen. He tried to shout a warning to Chris but the ground had already begun to shake. Piper held onto Leo tightly and Phoebe tried to reach for the still-bound Wyatt. Unfortunately, Wyatt was just out of Phoebe's reach and the rumbling and shaking was getting more intense. Ryan had to use all of his strength to hold on to the pillar as things became ever more chaotic.

With a wave of his hand, Chris sent Wyatt sliding towards the rest of the family. Another flick of his hand resulted in a protective dome sheltering the Halliwells, leaving Chris to face the Elders alone.

Chris' actions further enraged the Elders, who intensified their chanting. A large beam of energy surged towards Chris, causing Piper to scream in fright. Without any sign of fear, Chris effortlessly directed the energy beam towards a faraway pillar, causing it to slam harmlessly into a new target.

The Elders were shocked by the display of power from Chris. They had never seen someone dismiss their powers so easily. Their shock and rage soon turned to fear as they realized that they could not defeat Chris. More worrisome was their fear about what Chris would do to them.

As if reading their minds, Chris spoke in a steady but firm voice. "Until you change your mind and meet our demands, you can expect no further assistance from the Halliwells. We have fulfilled our obligations and will not be offering our services any longer." Without waiting for a response from the Elders, Chris orbed his family, along with himself, back to the manor.

Once at the manor, the protective dome disappeared and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

"What was that?" Phoebe exclaimed, her eyes wide with awe and surprise.

"That was Chris Halliwell – the angry version," Ryan quipped, hardly able to hide the smirk making its way up his face.

"Obviously," Paige commented dryly while smirking at the same time. "Young man, you have some anger management issues to deal with," she said to Chris.

"You mean you weren't warned about Christopher's stormy temper?" Wyatt added.

Piper was about to make a comment when she realized that her son was still bound by the Elder's ropes. She was about to untie Wyatt when Chris stopped her.

"Don't touch the rope, Mom," Chris warned. "You'll hurt yourself."

With another flick of his hand, the ropes disintegrated, earning another gasp of awe from Piper and Phoebe.

"Okay," Phoebe continued, not quite able to digest the display of power that she had just witnessed. "Where did you get all those powers?"

Everyone began to come up with their own theories as to where Chris got his powers. Only Ryan and Wyatt did not join in the discussion because they felt that something wasn't quite right. On cue, they both turned to Chris and both noticed that he didn't look too well.

"Chris?" Wyatt asked cautiously.

Chris clutched his abdomen and fell forward. Both Ryan and Wyatt caught him as he fell. The commotion finally snapped the Charmed Ones and Leo out of their debate.

"Oh my god!" Phoebe yelled as she noticed her nephew coughing up blood.

"I'm fine..." Chris croaked as Ryan and Wyatt helped him to his feet. Everyone could see Chris swaying as he tried to steady himself. "I'm fine..." he repeated upon seeing everyone's disbelieving faces.

"You are so not fine," Piper said firmly.

"Don't worry, Mom. I think it's just power overload."

"And I'm supposed to take your word for it?" Piper asked skeptically.

Chris smirked at the comment. "That's the idea, Mom."

"Right," Piper said slowly. "You see, that would work if my son wasn't known for hiding injuries, keeping problems to himself, and generally taking on a heavier load than he can bear."

Chris pouted at Piper's remarks and put on his sad puppy look. "I'm sorry..." he said softly, causing Paige and burst out laughing.

"I hate it when you do that," Piper said as she softened her tone and relented.

Chris' eyes twinkled mischievously as he watched Wyatt and Ryan roll their eyes. "Suck up!" they both mouthed as Chris just smirked back.

When Chris woke up from his much-needed rest, he heard a lot of soft mumbling from the kitchen. He slowly made his way downstairs and saw the rest of the family conferring by the kitchen table. Piper was by the stove busying making dinner, but she was also participating in the conversation.

Everyone stopped talking once they spotted Chris, causing the younger Halliwell to become suspicious immediately. "What's going on?" he asked, directing the question to everyone in the room.

"We're just debating what to do about the Elders. They won't just give up trying to get Wyatt."

"Don't worry," Chris said nonchalantly. "They won't try anything."

"You seem very sure of that," Phoebe commented.

"Trust me, okay? They won't be trying anything unless they're ready to negotiate."

"And what exactly are you looking to negotiate?" Paige asked, curious at her nephew's plan.

"Nothing much. A nice apology, a promise to drop the whole 'punish Wyatt thing,' give Wyatt back his powers, agree to treat you guys with respect..."

"Oh yeah, nothing much!!" Ryan laughed at the list.

"Hey, I think we could've asked for a lot more," Chris laughed, messing up Ryan's hair.

Phoebe squinted her eyes and stared at Chris. "And you're expecting that they'll just roll over and meet your demands."

"Our demands," Chris corrected.

"Fine, our demands," Phoebe corrected herself while rolling her eyes.

Chris chuckled. "Well, I don't expect them to just roll over and agree, of course. But in the mean time, consider it a mini-vacation for you guys from all this demon hunting."

Paige laughed at the irony of the situation. "A mini-vacation from demon hunting? This coming from the same neurotic Whitelighter who sent us off to vanquish demons in the middle of the night?"

"You're never going to let that go, are you?" Chris asked with a pout.

"Don't," Paige warned. "Don't even start with that sad face again."

Chris shrugged and took a seat. "It works most of the time."

"Your charm must be wearing off, little bro," Wyatt laughed.

Meanwhile, 'Up There'...

"You can't be seriously considering his threat," Ataka said incredulously. "He's just a young punk!"

"A young punk with an amazing amount of power," added Walter.

"Must have used some spell to magnify his power."

"I doubt it. I've never see such raw power in one being. No spell would have concentrated such an immense amount of power in him."

"He is the son of a Charmed One, you know."

"But his powers far surpass even the Power of Three," added another Elder.

Ataka scoffed at the remarks. "Power or not, he's still just a witch. We will NOT be blackmailed by him."

"We cannot afford to lose his services, Ataka," Walter concluded. "The last thing we need is a repeat of Wyatt Halliwell and for him to turn to the dark side."

"So what are you suggesting we do?" Ataka questioned. "Go and beg him to change his mind?" he asked sarcastically.

"We'll go and reason with him," Craginus answered.

Ataka laughed. "You're just going to encourage him to disregard the rules and disrespect us in the future!"

"Silence, Ataka!" Walter rebuked. "You will NOT jeopardize everything with your outbursts. We will talk to him and secure his services. Once we have stabilized our position, then we will work to rid ourselves of the Charmed Ones and their offsprings."
