The Pain of Future Wrongs – Chapter 66
"What an idiot!" Jamie laughed as she watched the movie, snuggled up to Chris. Unfortunately, Chris' mind wasn't really on the movie and he wasn't even aware of what was going on. "Chris?" Jamie asked when she got no response. "Yoohoo! Earth to Chris!"
"Huh? Yeah, what an idiot!" Chris responded half-heartedly.
"What's wrong with you, Chris?" Jamie asked, not angry but concerned. "You seem so distant…"
Chris sighed and pulled Jamie close. "It's nothing. Just things on my mind, nothing serious."
"Talk to me, Chris," Jamie pleaded. "I'm your girlfriend. You haven't been happy for the past week, so something is obviously bothering you."
"It's nothing," Chris said unconvincingly. Both of them remained silent for a while before Chris spoke again. "I'm sorry, Jamie…I guess I haven't been a very good boyfriend, huh?"
Jamie turned to give her boyfriend a quick kiss. "Don't be silly, Chris," she said before a horrible thought occurred to her. "It's not me…is it?"
"What?" Chris asked, not knowing what Jamie was trying to get at.
"The things on your mind…it's not because of something that I did, right?"
"No, no…" Chris answered quickly. "It's not you, Jamie. You've been great…it's me…"
"Chris, please…" Jamie pleaded again. "You're worrying me. Let me at least share the burden with you."
Chris sighed and stared at his hands. "You're not going to understand, Jamie."
"How would you know if you don't at least give it a try?"
Chris shook his head in resignation. "After all, if even my family didn't understand, how could anyone else?" he thought to himself.

"Wyatt, I have a really bad feeling about this…"
Wyatt sighed and hugged Chris. "I know you're worried, you're always worried. That's why you're the neurotic one of the family."
"That wasn't funny," Chris glared.
Wyatt sighed again. "Alright, I'm sorry. But we've already been through this. Sometimes I wish you were right because that would mean that we could heal your leg. But we've already tried and you were there to see it. You're still blocked from magic…and that means your dreams are nothing more than that, Chris…"
"But they were so real..." Chris protested.
"Don't worry so much, Chris," Wyatt said sincerely. He knew Chris wanted to protect his family but it didn't mean that he had to drive himself insane with worry. "Plus, with so many of us here, I don't think the demons would be any match for us…"
"Don't gloat about these things," Chris half joked, half chastised.
"Okay, okay. Just quit worrying, alright?"

Chris shook his head to clear his mind. "You know what? Don't worry about it. I'm being my usual neurotic self again."
Jamie looked skeptical. "Christopher Perry Halliwell…" she began.
Chris smirked and put his hands up in surrender. "Hey, no need to go all motherly on me, Jamie…"
Jamie stared into Chris' green eyes and soon found herself lost in them once again. "I love you, Chris. I just want you to be happy."
Chris pulled Jamie close and hugged her. "I am happy. I have you, don't I?"

"Oh god, Mom. Do you have to show that picture to everyone??" Chris moaned as he buried his face in his hands out of embarrassment.
"You looked so cute!" Jamie laughed as she looked at a picture of a very drunk Chris. The picture was taken when Piper, Phoebe, and Paige tried to get their neurotic Whitelighter to enjoy life a bit, so they spiked his juice and he ended up letting loose that night at P3.
"This is so embarrassing," Chris groaned while Piper just smiled like a proud mother.
"Aw, is the cocky Chris Halliwell blushing?" Jamie teased while Piper laughed.
Chris reached out to snatch the photo away when he suddenly shivered. Immediately, Piper reached over to feel her son's forehead to make sure that he didn't have a fever. "Better safe than sorry," she declared. "Let me make you a cup of herbal tea."
Chris was going to give Piper one of his smart comments when he shivered again, this time more strongly than the first time. His hand gripped his wheelchair tightly as he began to tremble.
"Are you okay?" Jamie asked Chris, worry evident in her voice.
Jamie's comment sent Piper running back into the room. "Chris? What's wrong, honey?"
"Jamie…get out of here…now…" Chris whispered, almost desperately.
"What? Why? What's going on?"
"Mom…please….get Jamie out of here…something's going to happen…"
Piper hesitated. "Let me call for Paige and Phoebe…"
"NO!" he yelled. "Go! Please…" he begged.
Before anyone could react, a legion of demons shimmered into the manor, causing Jamie to scream in fear. Piper immediately began to blow the demons up while calling for Paige, Wyatt, and Ryan.
"Get Jamie to safety!" Piper yelled as she blew a few more demons up.
Chris tried to grab Jamie's hand but a fireball made contact with his wheelchair, sending him flying against the wall and sprawled on the floor.
Jamie immediately ran over to Chris but was hit in the back by two fireballs, causing her to cry out in pain before falling lifelessly to the floor.
"JAMIE!!!!!!!!!!" Chris yelled in horror. He mustered his strength and crawled towards her motionless body. It was clear that the fireballs had killed her instantly, but Chris refused to believe this fact.
Chris was so preoccupied with Jamie that he failed to see two fireballs flying towards him. By the time he saw them, it was much too late for him to get out of the way. He felt something crash into him, but it wasn't a fireball. To his horror, he found himself holding onto Piper's limp body, two gaping wounds on her back. "MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" he cried. "Oh my god…Mom!!!"
The demons, seeing the success of their attack, quickly left before any reinforcements could arrive. Chris, meanwhile, was holding on Piper as she struggled to breathe.
"I love you, baby…I'm so proud of you…" she whispered as she took in the face of her heroic son again.
"Mom…hold on. Wyatt and them will be here any moment. Please…."
"I love you so much, Chris," Piper cried as she felt her life drain away.
"No….please don't go, Mom. Don't leave me….please….I'm so sorry….Mom…Please!!!!"
Piper smiled at her son once more before her eyes closed for the last time. Chris pulled his mother close and hugged her now lifeless body. "MOM!!!!!!!" he cried with anguish just as Wyatt and the rest of the family orbed in.
Everyone was stunned at the devastation and it took them a while to realize what had happened. Trembling, Paige and Leo and Wyatt all tried to heal Piper and Jamie, but they soon realize that they were too late.
"Please…try again…" Chris begged as he looked on helplessly while Ryan hugged him, trying to keep his older brother from losing it altogether.
"We can't…" Wyatt cried. "It's too late…"
"No, it's not…try again. Aunt Paige…please…"
"Chris…Wyatt's right…we can't heal the dead," she said as tears streamed down her face.
"NO!!! NO!!!!! NO!!!!!!!" he yelled, his green eyes filled with fury and rage. He glared up at the ceiling towards the heavens. "This is how you reward me after everything that I've done???" he spat angrily. "YOU OWE ME!!!!!" he lashed out. "Did you hear me?! YOU. OWE. ME!!!!!"
