Fate Derailed: A Ramza Jumpchain Story

Prologue

"I had lived my life the only way that I had known. But when the pillars of that life came crashing down, I did not stand and watch them fall. I turned, and walked away."

A single figure trudged slowly through the driving snow. The blond teen, covered with burns and soot, continued forward. He stared out into the middle distance, only seeing the scenes his mind replaying and not where he was headed…

The Arrow entering Terta's Heart

The victorious smirk on Argath's face

Zalbag's back as he walked away

His brother's men killing his fellow recruits at Argath's command

Delita's hatred burning through his eyes

The silhouettes of Delita and Tetra amongst the smoke and fire of the fortress.

Reality returned as his foot caught rock hidden deep in the snow sending him tumbling forward. He lay on his back as the snow continued to fall. He weakly tried to stand but his battle wounds and emotions held him down like weights. His vision blurred as hot tears finally emerged streaking down his frozen face.

"Delita…" he whimpered softly, mourning his oldest friend for the first time. Steadfast and Loyal… a brother more so than Zalbag and Dycedarg had ever been. Especially Now. Zalbag's unphased expression while Tetra fell dead brought a burning feeling to his chest against the Numbing cold. Could he return to such a place after witnessing that? Go home like nothing had happened? A home without Delita or Tetra?

"Mayhaps I should just let winter take me? I'm sure That others are waiting for me…" he whispered as he took in the howling winds and twisted snow. He could just close his eyes and this whole nightmare would be over…

"Now that would be a terrible waste of potential!" Another voice pierced his fatalistic solitude coming from seemingly all around him, sending all of his senses to alert… Wind had stopped, ALL sounds had and the snow was hanging in the air in an affront to gravity. "Yer not just going to lay there are you?" the course informal voice held an almost mocking turn. Like everything they witnessed was amusing. It was irritating. "Is this the extent of Balbane's Legacy?" Ramza tightened his fist around the snow until it became painful.

"What would you have me do?!" he shouted hoarsely to the sky, "Father … would never have allowed this to stand…" he hissed knowing it to be true. But he was not his father, he lacked that overwhelming strength to force the correct outcome. The fire in him died away leaving him hollow once more "So taunt all you wish Devil, I have nothing to give you."

"I suppose that's true enough… But what if I have something for you? A second chance perhaps or…" the voice provided cheerfully, ignoring the young man's misery. "A chance to save them from their fate." The whispered words sounded as sweet as candy and as much as it sickened him he could not quell the rise of hope. It was just as the church stories told. How one would find themselves damned to hell through the best of intentions.

"So… my soul then?" The noble said bitterly. "You wish to take my salvation as well?"

"So dramatic." the 'Devil' said, sounding a bit put out. "Hardly something so simple. Where is the sport in that?"

"Sport…" Ramza grimaced, "Damn you..." he cursed softly but the voice continued on undeterred.

"Yes, for a timeline reset this requires an appropriate trial. Restoring a life does take a lot of energy but if your able to do the work You'll be able to undo their deaths.` The voice was so calm about the concept it almost made him believe it was true. "How many are you trying to save? Just the Hyral siblings? Or are you including your academy friends… two lives is a lot less work then 10 after all."

"Stop it…"

"Or perhaps your FATHER as well?"

"Do not mock me!" He shot up slamming his fist to the ground, Ignoring the pain coursing through his body.

"Ooh there we go, THAT'S the passion I'm lookin' for." Though the origin of the voice was hidden he could now see a form. A humanoid silhouette standing atop of the snow further down the mountain. It was hard to make out any details but there was something there… "You're going to need that."

"I have agreed to nothing Devil." Ramza said grimly as he slowly stood up, riding the wave of adrenaline. "And though I am beaten you'll find a Beoulve soul is not so easily taken." He slowly drew his sword from its sheath, still stained with Northern Sky blood from the battle at the fort. It was a bluff more than anything but if he could land one defiant blow it would be a moral victory. Though he could see no features he could feel the smile on the entity. A swell of anger pushed him forward, stumbling through the snow to close the distance. As he got closer a growing wind began to whip into being despite the frozen world. The closer he got the harder it got to move forward. He grit his teeth and pushed even harder despite his body's protest, "So… you fear my blade… despite all your talk?" he grunted, laughter echoing all around him as the world started to darken.

"Absolutely Trembling," The entity was clearly bemused. "But you should be saving your strength for what is to come. You have so many lives yet to make up for." It was getting harder to keep traction but he was nearly there he could finally make out the Devil's eyes, a shocking red and oozing mirth at his plight. He pushed to get a little closer and found he was no longer on the ground any more, His blade slipped from his hand as he felt himself carried up into the sky where all light vanished. "Hold onto that noble soul Young Beoulve, for the trials to come!" The voice grew distant as he reached out desperately to the diminished figure. As he fell seemingly forever his strength finally left him and his consciousness faded. The Shadowy entity burned into his mind...

AN: Back with something no one asked for, as Is my want to do. This is one of the main things I've been working on lately so If I'm going to share anything with you all it will be this. so I'm sure there's a few questions on what all this is so I'll do my best to explain.

1. What is this?

This a jumpchain story, it's going to cross over in and out of multiple worlds, which will thus put this project as a whole across multiple lists. I have no idea how well it will reach an audience. So this will be an experiment.

2, Why is the second Part Marked Build also marked 'skippable'?

So every jump grants the one jumping powers relevant to the world for them to keep. Increasing their power and helping their survival. Since it is a part of the Jump chain experience I will include them as their own chapters. there will be no narrative in these parts so fi you don't care about the 'mechanics' of the chain or want spoilers for the powers he may have gained in the shift you can just skip them and continue the story. and Upload with a build will also have the next snippet of story with it so it will continue to progress. Hopefully this will work as the best of both worlds.

3. What is a Jumpchain?

This could get a bit messy but the best way I can explain it something of a mix of a survival game and a creative writing platform. It's a fanmade project that started on /tg/ and has since moved on to several other communities like Spacebattles and Reddit. The Main Character of the story will 'Jump' from world to world trying to survive as long as possible and gather power to be able to handle bigger threats and more dangerous worlds.

Each world, or Jump as they are called, has a fanmade document that sets out the powers, items and extra challenges they can acquire or assign for themselves. Normally you have to survive 10 years in the world before going to the next but jumpchain is malleable for those who have specific stories they want to tell. Once you finish a jump you are free to pick out a new document to jump to and repeat the process until you feel confident enough to pic an 'end game challenge' these are usually Jumps insurmountable odds but if the challenge is completed the Jumper with gain their Planeswalker spark and be able to freely travel the multiverse at their leisure. Your always welcome to stop a chain early of course, either to stay in the current world rather then continuing on or to go back home with all your powers and items intact. If you somehow fail the chain by dying or being unable to surmount special obstacles you took for more build points then you are kicked back to your home world, but you do get to keep everything you earned up to that point. a decent consolation prize.

Ultimately is a new way to experience your favorite, books, games, and shows in a creative way

Ramza's chain and this story will be a bit different, but any relevant rules or wrinkles to his story he will learn as it goes. so I won't bog you down with all the rules I'm planning to adhere to. What I can say is that I am confident if you just want to experience this as a story and not worry about the mechanics of everything You should still be able to follow along with it all just fine. This is put up here for you to enjoy the story so Hopefully I will be able to communicate that well for you. if you have any further questions I will gladly answer them in the authors notes of future parts.

Until next time
