People say time cannot be manipulated. They are wrong. For centuries, religions have used time to rewrite and erase history. With each passing century, origins are forgotten until they are reclaimed again by a religion. This applies to the concept of "angels." Now angels are holy winged creatures that dwell in a place called Heaven. Sakura is an angel, but not the type of angel that religions have claimed them to be.
In true ancient times, Angels was the name of a clan that Sakura's ancestors founded. The one who started it all was named Lucifer. Lucifer was gifted in seeing the unseen, but he had another physical gift as well. He was the first one to evolve with wings on his back. The conditions of the environment at the time have long been forgotten, but they must have demanded flight. People demanded an explanation, calling it a divine gift. When Lucifer rejected it, he was shunned and banned from society. But he found a lover despite all odds…so the gene continued to pass.
Eventually their population grew until a clan was formed. Lucifer called it "Angels" because each person in the clan continued to receive Lucifer's gift of seeing the unseen. They were all messengers, whether the message was from the future, the past, or the present. They lived for a millennium in solitude before the clan dispersed themselves into normal society. The name Lucifer has been tainted by religions, so all who descended from him hid their wings. By then, religion had erased all existence of the clan "Angels."
Over the next few generations, the gene continued to pass on but became diluted in blood that was outside the clan. Wings were lost, or at least were thought lost until one girl named Sakura received the gene. That does not mean that Sakura knew about her wings. Fear that ran almost as long as time prevented wings from appearing until desperate times.
