In the beginning it had been innocent and pure, Padmé and Obi-Wan's relationship. Every day, it grew and stretched until Padmé found herself telling Obi-Wan secrets that not even Anakin could hear. Secrets about her past, secrets about Obi-Wan's padawan. Painful things that had made her build a black coating of brick around her fragile heart.

All Anakin knew was that Amidala had been seeing Master Obi-Wan Kenobi concerning advice on spiritual matters for weeks now. Since Anakin wasn't one to focus on small things, his teacher was the one chosen to assist Amidala in her faith in the Force.

Unbeknownst to Anakin, his wife knew, and had informed Obi-Wan of her state; pregnant with twins. Anakin's children. She had sensed Anakin's loathing and barely concealed hatred growing for a long time. She realized that if Anakin knew of her pregnancy, evil would come of it, so she kept it a secret from him. Only Obi-Wan knew the truth, and Padmé told him everything, he had become her one trusted confidant and friend. What no one knew was that their relationship had become more. Not even the two involved could see the truth now. They were too close to see the truth.

Anakin could not be completely blind when he watched his wife with his master. He sensed something, and he couldn't shake it. Something was wrong, but Anakin would not guess it until much too late.

"I'm worried about the future of my children, Obi-Wan. Can you tell me something to ease my fears?" They were seated in the antechamber of Padmé and Anakin's home.

"The future is cloudy and dark, my friend, and everything is difficult to see. If I may do anything to help you, I will tell you when I think of it." Obi-Wan placed a caring hand upon Padmé's knee. She smiled weakly.

"I am concerned that I will not be able to care for them, and still keep the secret from my husband. They will be so small and defenseless. I love them already, Ben. They are my only reason for life now."

Obi-Wan was alarmed at the way Padmé spoke her words, with a tired weariness and a feeling of being much too old for how beautiful she still looked, like she had been forced to grow up too fast. "And you must live for them. Let us think and meditate on possible shelter for the children. Since I can no longer control Anakin… I don't think I really ever could… I take full blame for his actions, whatever they may be, and am sorrowed that everything has come this far."

"Thank you, master. I will meditate upon these solutions. Thank you for your help."

"I must be going. Until our next meeting, then." Obi-Wan reached for his cloak, as Padmé's voice echoed through his head. "Ben".

Padmé was quiet for a moment. "Stay?" she whispered, and looked at Obi-Wan with the eyes of her youth, and Ben was immediately under their power. He had fallen in love with those eyes so long ago, and he was still in love with them.

Not just them, but her. Everything about her. She deserved love, the love of an entire planet, an entire universe. But since he could not give her that, he decided to give her his own.

"Stay," he confirmed.
