Hijacking The Sun
By Socket
Ramani waited in the hospital corridor until she thought her heart would burst. He is here because of her. He is lying in that operating theatre because of her stupidity. If she hadn't let this thing with Margaret spiral out of control, if he hadn't been the one she turned to for support, if she hadn't let Terry into her world… then none of this would have happened.
She'll never forgive herself. Never let him escape her memory if he dies. She feels winded at the very thought. Terry gone.
Ramani leans against the wall, her strength diminished, she's barely able to stand. All she wants is to see him, see that cheeky grin, hear a quip…
The guilt gnaws at her. Without even realising it, Terry has become the most important person to her… without even noticing the process, he has hijacked the sun, taken the moon from her, and this was never the way it was supposed to be - they were never supposed to be this important to each other.
She stares at the wall and she feels the panic in her chest merge with the sorrow... overwhelming sorrow that burns her with its fierceness. What would she do without him?
She feels her feet carrying her, feels herself moving along the corridor – she has to see him, has to tell him all he means to her, all she owes him. She needs him too badly; he can't die, because she needs him here, with her.
Ramani reaches the emergency room and through the window she sees him lying on the operating table. She stands still, her heart thumping - her whole body hums with the desire to touch him, to let him know she's here, that she's sorry.
There are tubes and wires, machines and doctors filling the room, Ramani stares at Terry's unconscious form and she remembers the first time she saw him. It was in the CSU – he was a little rough in appearance, a hooligan type and she'd been weary of him at first – but she'd soon discovered his humour, his kindness, his patience… and as she watches him through the window, she realises that she's glad he's the most important person to her.
