The Great Escape(A NCIS fic) by fictional_craze:

Author's note:

This is my very first story at this site. I'm just someone who has just started writing. This story is not beta read and English is not my first language. So please forgive me if there are any grammatical mistakes. Slibbs has always been my favourite and I simply had to write this story. Hopefully you all will enjoy it too.

Synopsis:

Much to their displeasures Gibbs and Jack have ended up together staking out a suspect's apartment on Christmas Eve. When waiting drives them crazy the only thing they both have is the company of each other. But when their suspect finally arrives, guns are drawn and chases are made, leading Gibbs and Jack to end up stuck inside a weird place.

A place where none of them expected to be stuck in. And with their team off to christmas celebrations Gibbs and Jack have ended up with no way to contact them and with no one looking for them, all Gibbs and Jack can depend on each other. There's a saying right 'Where we are stuck in doesn't matter, who we are stuck with is what matters!!!' This situation they are stuck in is about to test that saying.

So the real question is can they both work together while addressing their relationship issues and figure out a way to get out of that place before it's too late???

Just A fun and mystery filled fluffy Slibbs Story.

……..Somewhere on a street in D.C…….

After sitting in the car for almost 4 hours straight her patience started to wear thin. She sighed in a way to show her bored state to him. But he did not pay attention to her. He stayed silent, just like he has been for the past 4 hours. And it drove her crazy.

She always admired the amount of patience he always had. But still even she couldn't understand how he could possibly go on staying silent without saying a single word for four hours straight.

But then of course he did not acquire the nickname, 'Man of few words' for nothing!!

He only spoke when it was absolutely necessary and only when he had something to say. And there was nothing to say for the past 4 hours and so as usual he stayed quietly in the driver seat of the car, sipping his coffee and occasionally checking his watch while he kept an eye on the apartment entrance.

The place they had been staking out was flickering and flashing with lights and flashes. Each and every house on that street was filled with Christmas decorations. It was around 8.30 at night but the whole street glittered like it was a broad day. But of course after all it was Christmas Eve. All the decorations and fuzz were very much expected.

But the fact that they had ended up working on a Christmas Eve made Jack a little more mad than she already was. And the sweet smell of cake and chocolates from the corner bakery and the occasional fireworks was also testing her patience.

But then she was the one who happily volunteered to go out on an all night stakeout with Gibbs on Christmas Eve. So she was the one to blame.

She knew all of this would be happening when she said yes but still she did it out of the pureness of her heart. It was after all Christmas Eve and the look on the kids face, when Gibbs announced that they would be staking out the suspect's apartment all night in case he shows up at his house, made her heart melt. She couldn't let them work, not today, they all had plans and she couldn't let them just cancel it. Not on Christmas Eve!!

This was a well earned holiday for the team but the last minute case and a possible suspect was going to blow up all their plans.

McGee had planned to spend the evening with Delilah and the in-laws. Nick was hoping to spend time with his old academy mates and Jimmy with his family and Ellie had made plans with Kaise and her other friends to go to the movies.

But still if Gibbs had asked them to stay they all would have agreed in a heartbeat, cancelling all their plans. They were all committed to their work to a fault.

But then even Gibbs didn't feel like making them work on Christmas Eve and so he agreed to go on the stakeout all alone by himself. And everyone ran off the next second, Gibbs gave them the nod and 'Get out of here' Look. But even though Jack had plans herself she couldn't run off like the rest of them leaving Gibbs all alone. No, she couldn't!!

Going out on a stakeout with him felt so much better for her than having drinks and watching a Christmas movie with her friends and family. Of Course it was!!

But at the same time she also knew that it wouldn't be easy or entertaining. That Gibbs and his regular silence and grumpy behaviour will not make the already tough stakeout any easier.

But then she was not expecting fun or anything. She knew better than that. All she expected was just to spend some time with him, even if it meant sitting inside a parked car with him for hours. Even that sounded exciting to her. But that doesn't mean that she wasn't bored.

"Ahhh.", She sighed once again as she buried her head into her arms and layed down on the dashboard. The boredom was driving her crazy.

Sipping his not so hot coffee he creaked around the corner of his lips, smirking at the state she was in. Oh man, did he enjoy watching her like that??

Even though he wouldn't admit it, he was enjoying this way too much. He did not expect her to say yes to this stakeout, True! He was more than capable of doing this by himself. But still that slight happiness when she said "Gibbs wait up, I'm going with you!!" With her mild lopsided grin when he boarded the elevator made him beam like a teanager. Only he knew how hard he tried to conceal his blushing in front of her at that time. He was too proud to admit it though. But deep down Gibbs knew being with Jack on Christmas Eve made him happy.

"Ahh, can't he come already??" Jack sighed, "This is getting so boring."

She threw a look over the corner of her eye hoping to get a reply at least now. But no, he stayed quietly as he has been for the past 4 hours and now the little patience she had in her was also gone.

"You know why they always go out in two's on a stakeout?" Jack questioned and Gibbs could sense the sarcasm in her tone. "Do you?"

He shook his head gesturing a 'no' as if he didn't know what she was getting at with this.

"It's to keep eachother company during the long hours of the stakeout. To chat and talk and keep the boredom at check!!" She hissed,

" That's what partners are for. To "Talk" to each other and not to sit like a stone statue for hours unlike someone."

She turned her head away from him, making a long face as she looked out through the window, showing her disappointment in him.

He smiled mildly looking at her crimson turned cheeks and her anger filled little eyes as they glowed from the street light.

He always loved testing her patience like that by not talking, just staring at her in silence hoping for her to read him like an open book without him saying a word. And even though he knew his silence annoyed her, he still did it so many times, sometimes even intentionally.

But today even he knew that he took it to a higher level. And that he made her mad. After all, she didn't even have to be here. She was only here for him, to be with him and for that sweet and lovely gesture he owed her at least a bit of his attention right??

After a few seconds of silence and thinking about it all, he placed his empty coffee cup on the cup holder," So what do you want me to say Jack??"

She turned her head around, twisting her body so she could face him. Soon they both came face to face with each other. Just inches of gap left between them as they both stared at each other's eyes in silence. A gesture they both always loved to do. What were they searching inside each other's eyes during all those times of staring?? Their souls?? Answers to the questions which their mouths couldn't answer?? Or eachother??

They did not know!! Other than the fact that it made them happy!!! They did not know!!!

But all they knew was staring like that, standing with only an inch of gap left in between them, feeling each other's breath and hearing the other's heartbeat in complete silence always made them happy. Made butterflies run inside their stomach while both their hearts kept beating as if it was competition with the other. Taking them both back to their teenage days.

Oh man did they or didn't they love all those movements to the moon and earth???

And that was the same thing they were doing at that time too. Just staring at each other's eyes in complete silence, trying to guess what the other one was thinking while searching for clues in the other ones eyes. Only if their mouths were able to speak half the amount their eyes spoke, then their relationship would've been completely different right now.

But no!!, they both enjoyed playing this silent, guessing game a little too much and neither of them was willing to end it by admitting their feelings. Or maybe they were not willing to risk their beautiful friendship they had by trying to take this relationship to the next level. They did not know!!. But all they both knew was that being with the other one made them happy and that both of them wanted to spend time with the other. And so none of them was willing to risk it by saying anything or admitting anything.

After a few minutes of staring at each other continuously, both their eyelids felt like they needed a break. Of Course!! Can you blame them?? Jack was the first one to blink. She used to tease him saying that 'she would bury him in a staring contest' but even she knew that wasn't possible.

After all, who was she challenging??

- 'The king of Stares'!!

He smirked and darted his eyes away from her as he tried to control his smile while she herself was struggling to cover her own blushing by lowering her head and pushing some hair towards the back of her ears.

An almost missed kiss!!!.

They both knew that. But then this had happened so many times before this that it had become like a routine for them.

"Maybe how about we do a crossword?" Jack asked, breaking the awkward silence in between them while taking out a newspaper from the dashboard, "It'll help us kill some time!"

"Crossword??" Gibbs raised an eyebrow," You do know that we're here on a stakeout right?"

"Hey, if you're afraid that you'd lose to me.." Smirking, she challenged him even though she knew how good he was at crosswords, " You don't have to do it. I can understand!!."

He creased his eyes giving her his regular,

'Gibbs stare' but she didn't budge. She held her ground. Even though it was a stare that sent all the trained agents and hardcore criminals running away in fear. It did not intimidate her. She wasn't afraid by it, in fact she even gave the same stare back at him.

"Okay, Fine!!" He finally gave in, agreeing to do the crossword with her. "Let's do it and see who loses to whom!!"

" Don't be so overconfident, cowboy," she rolled her eyes, " I'm too good at this!!"

" So am I!!" He smirked, "You cannot beat me!"

"Let's see!!!

They both agreed, with full confidence in themselves determined to beat the other. Well, that was what they said to each other but deep down neither of them wanted to beat the other. They both knew better than that.

And yet they continued the dance and started playing the crossword together, completely forgetting about the fact that they were there on a stakeout. They both dived into a world where there was only them and no one else in it. All they both could see was each other and nothing else. And by that the next hour passed in a blink of an eye for the two of them.

Just with laughter and happiness and love... Just the two of them…..
