Just something I got an idea for after rewatching some episodes of Charmed and a conversation with my friend Aragorn II Elessar. I know it's not a very long chapter and we don't see anything on the Smallville side of thing yet, but I do hope you guys enjoy it.

Timeline wise, this takes place after the Avatar arc on Charmed and the season ten premiere of Smallville.

Halliwell Manor

Night

Paige Mathews sat in the living room, thinking of how she wanted this conversation to go. She knew her sisters may not understand why she had to do this, she barely understood it herself. But she hoped she could count on her brother-in-law for help in this matter. As she tried to gather her thoughts, she couldn't help but recall the conversation that had set her on this path.

Golden Gate Bridge

Earlier

Paige stood on top of the bridge, looking down at the cars as they drove down below before looking up at the sky. She could understand why Leo and Chris had liked to come up here. It felt…peaceful, strangely. Or maybe that was just the Whitelighter in her. Unseen behind her, a series of white lights appeared before it formed a man.

"Hi Paige," he said.

Startled, Paige whirled around, staring at the man.

"Sam," Paige said in surprise and he gave a half smile.

"Sam? Don't you mean 'Dad'?" he asked lightly.

"Maybe you'd have more right to that if you came by once in a while," Paige said hotly and Sam nodded.

"Fair enough," Sam allowed.

"What are you doing here?" Paige demanded.

"Checking up on a charge. You," Sam said, to Paige's shock.

"I'm your charge?" Paige asked in disbelief and he nodded.

"The Elders thought I was best suited to help you with your problem," Sam told her and Paige rolled her eyes.

"Well they must be losing their touch, because I don't have a problem," Paige denied.

"Then why are you here? Let me guess, you felt drawn here?" Sam asked and Paige stiffened. "It's the Whitelighter in you Paige, just like it was the Whitelighter in you that convinced you to become a Social Worker."

"How do you know about that?" Paige asked in surprise.

"You're my daughter. Even if I can't be there, I still take an interest in your life," Sam said with a smile.

"So…how can you help me with my problem?" Paige said uncomfortably, not sure how to take this.

While they had made peace the last time they had met, that didn't mean Paige was ready to accept him as her father, especially if he was only going to show up once every few years. Him basically stalking her was not the best start.

"Well, you can start by talking to me about it. I assume this has something to do with Agent Brody. He killed an Avatar Paige, word spreads fast," Sam said when Paige shot him a look.

"Well, the creepiness of Whitelighter gossip aside, you're half right. It does have to do with Kyle…just not in the way you're thinking," Paige admitted with a sigh as Sam raised an eyebrow. "Now that I've had some time to think, I realized I let my feelings for Kyle sort of cloud my judgment, as Leo would say. He put an innocent in danger, made her forget months of her life. And I went along with it; I defended him to my family. I sort of…lost myself in Kyle. I'm not sure how I even got to this point."

"We all feel that way at one point or another Paige. Sometimes, in order to see the bigger picture, we have to take a step back. Sometimes, in order to save ourselves, we have to save someone else," Sam said and she looked at him oddly.

"What are you trying to get at?" Paige asked and he smiled slightly.

"Can't tell you that, sorry," he said apologetically.

"Let me guess, Elders won't let you?" Paige asked grumpily and he chuckled slightly.

"Sometimes, they have a good reason for keeping you in the dark. But I can tell you one thing," Sam said and Paige raised an eyebrow. "You won't find the answers you're looking for here. Or with your sisters. You spent a lot of time on your own growing up. Maybe it's time you get back to that."

Paige frowned, considering Sam's words as he Orbed away.

Paige was brought of her thoughts as her sisters and brother-in-law walked into the room.

"What's up Paige? You said you wanted to talk," Leo said as they all entered the room.

"Please tell me we don't have any more magical problems. I cannot handle anymore right now," Piper groaned.

"No, no magical problems," Paige said, pausing as she tried to put her thoughts into words. "I'm leaving."

"…I Think I misheard you Paige. Because it sounded like you just said you were leaving," Phoebe said after a moment as the three stared at the fourth member of their family in shock.

"I did," Paige said, cringing at how she'd just blurted it out. "A college friend of mine lives in Metropolis. She's getting married in a week. I'm gonna head out there."

"Okay. So when will you be back?" Piper asked as she began to relax.

"I'm not sure," Paige admitted. "This whole thing with Kyle and the Avatars…I realize I've sort of lost myself in it all. So I think I need to take a step back, to do some soul searching. I can't do that here."

"But you can do it in Metropolis?" Phoebe demanded, still having trouble wrapping her head around it all.

"It's something I need to do. Please, try to understand," Paige pleaded. "And if you need the Power of Three, I'm just an Orb away."

"What about Magic School?" Piper asked in a last ditch effort to talk Paige out of it.

"I've put Miss Donavon in charge of things temporarily; she knows how to reach me if she needs me for anything that requires my attention. Guys, I know this seems sudden, but this is something I need to do," Paige said and it was silent for a moment.

"I think we should let her go," Leo said and three heads turned to stare at him.

"Leo," Piper hissed and he held up his hands defensively.

"Paige has obviously given this a lot of thought. And whenever you two have needed to take some time for yourselves, Paige has never stood in the way of that. So shouldn't we give her the same support she's always shown us?" Leo reasoned and the room was silent for a moment.

"I hate it when you get all Whitelighter-y," Piper grumbled to her husband before turning to her youngest sister. "But Leo's right. You've always stood by us, whatever we needed. It would make me a hypocrite to tell you not to do this."

"Just…be careful out there okay? If half the things we've heard about Metropolis are true, it's even more dangerous than what we go through every day," Phoebe told Paige worriedly and she let out a half smile.

"Don't worry about me. I'm half Whitelighter and a Charmed One. I'll be okay," Paige said, grateful to have the support of her family.

Same time

In a restaurant, a man was sitting down at a table, eating dinner when Sam walked up to his table.

"So how'd it go?" the man asked as Sam sat down across from him.

"I think she'll stick around Metropolis for a bit. We just need to make sure we set her on the right path," Sam said, looking at the other man with a hard look. "I hope you know what you're asking of me. I don't like manipulating my daughter."

"But you didn't. Every word you said was true. She has lost herself and she won't be able to find herself if she stays with her sisters. Your motives for telling her don't matter. Sometimes, our children need a little nudge to get on the right path," the man said as he took a drink. "Sometimes, in order to save ourselves, we need to save someone else first. Being half Whitelighter, Paige is such a person. We can help more than one person here Sam."

"I hope you know what you're doing. Because I sure as Hell don't," Sam muttered before standing up and walking out of the restaurant.
