"It's been almost a year since this war started. Our job, as children, is to pray for those who are hanging outside. Brothers and fathers have been taking from us, and many of us don't really know the cause of it. People say, this is the start of a world, a New World. Our World."

Margaret closed her journal with a sigh. Her father had been one of the fathers she'd been writing about. If she wasn't the eldest of 5 children, she'd be able to cry, sure her father wasn't coming home anytime soon, maybe never.

Margaret was the eldest child of the Thompson family. Her younger brothers were William, Samuel, and Benjamin. William was her younger twin brother, putting Susan in between Samuel and Benjamin. Their ages, by order, 16, 16, 13, 10, 7. This is my story of the Patriot, the patriot being Margaret and William.
