Death of Spider-Man AU: What if Ultimate Spider-Man joined SHIELD
Chapter One.
Spider-Man flew through the air on a web glider, across the city then across the ocean toward the Triskelion. He circled the complex rather than just land there, fearing that the soldiers might fire at him for intrusion. Eventually, Carol Danvers, who'd replaced Nick Fury as head of S.H.I.E.L.D, walked onto the dock next to the building flanked by her agents and shouted for him to land. She called him Peter, seeing no need to conceal his identity as she and everyone else in her organization knew who he was. He swooped down and said, "Hello, Agent Danvers."
"Call me Carol, Peter. What's the matter? Your voice sounds like you've been crying."
"I have," the fifteen year old boy replied. Danvers reached for his Spider-Man mask and he made no move to stop her. When she pulled it off, she could see that his eyes were red and puffy, and his facial expression was so sad that she was tempted to hug him.
"You look like your girlfriend just dumped you," a blonde-haired male agent said. The director glared at him, then asked Peter, "What happened Parker? Is your Aunt May okay?" Her voice was as compassionate as possible.
"She's fine, though I can see why you would think that she wasn't."
Pointing to the male agent whod'd spoken up, Spider-Man said, "It's actually what he said. My girlfriend dumped me. Kind of."
"So you do have a girlfriend. I suspected you did, but I wasn't sure. Is it that Kitty Pryde girl who rescued you?"
"She and I broke up a long time ago, but good guess."
"Is it Gwen Stacy, who Doc Ock cloned?"
"Bingo," Peter replied.
"After Magneto's Ultimatum attack, when I almost died and Iron man and Captain America found me in rubble, Gwen Stacy repeatedly begged me to be her boyfriend. She and Aunt May and Bobby and Johnny were so devastated when they thought I was dead. Gwen said she wanted to remain close to me from then on, after she almost lost me. I couldn't refuse her, even though I'd always seen her as a friend and never went out with her, unlike Kitty Pryde and Mary Jane Watson, who i was dating at the time."
"She was my third guess as your girlfriend, and the prettiest if you ask " Carol opined.
"I agree. Anyway, after that chameleon monster stole my face, he kissed and flirted with Mary Jane, and Gwen saw it. It really hurt her. Even when she found out that it was an impostor, she was still upset and felt betrayed. Being in the same house with me now only caused her pain."
"Stacy didn't blame you did she? That would be really low."
"No, she blamed herself as a matter of fact. In the letter she left me and my aunt, Gwen said that shouldn't have forced me to be her boyfriend, that way she wouldn't have been hurt, and Mary Jane would easily gotten over what Chameleon did, which she has by the way."
"Good to hear," Carol remarked.
"So where is Gwen going now?"
"The note said she was going to find her mother, but didn't know if she would accept her or not."
Peter then went stiff as Director Danvers wrapped her arms around him.
"I'm really sorry Peter," she said as he hesitatingly returned her embrace.
"You said I should quit being Spider-Man the last time I was here, and I'm seriously tempted to listen to you."
"That's great," Carol replied, pulling back.
"And you should listen to me."
"The only thing stopping me is that if I turn away when people are in danger, or when criminals run amok, they will get seriously injured or killed. It's happened before."
"You're talking about your Uncle Ben," Carol stated the obvious sadly. At his look of surprise, she smiled and said ,"SHIELD surveillance."
"Aunt May says it wasn't my fault, and I really wish I could believe her. But that robber is the first and last thug I will ever let escape."
Peter held out his wrists and firmly looked at Carol.
"If you think I'm a liability and a disaster waiting to happen, then you can do one of two things ; lock me up or train me."
Carol Danvers eyes widened in surprise, as did the other agents' behind their glasses.
"You and SHIELD may not be superheroes, but you are trained to deal with superhuman threats, and you captured me easily, when you went after Osborn. If anyone can help me be a better hero, it's you guys and gals. Plus, you can keep an eye on me so that I don't get myself or anyone else into trouble."
"All very good points kid," Danvers said stroking her chin.
"Plus I really don't want to have to lock up a teenager and his Aunt for life. All right, I'll accept your proposal."
Peter tightly but gently hugged his new instructor and said, "Thank you so much!"
She hugged back and said, "You're welcome. But if I'm going to be training you, you'll have to do whatever I say. And you'll have to stay in contact with me or my agents and report all important info to us. Also, you can't fight crime or supervillains without my authorization. I'll be watching like a Hawk."
"Ma'am yes Ma'am," he said dramatically and did a mock salute.
"Most importantly, no skipping school or work. I want you to have a life beyond just swinging past skyscrapers. If you can't balance Spiderman with Peter Parker, I'll make you quit the former at once."
"Whatever you say Danvers sensei. I'm yours to command," Peter said, bowing to the blond haired woman as she struggled not to laugh.
"Why don't you go home and get some rest Parker, you're gonna need it for your training tomorrow. I'll hack the signals of all New York's televisons and let them know Spider-Man is joining SHIELD. That he realised he need to improve his superheroism after the chameleon incident, and that I personally agreed to help him."
"That reminds me," Peter said. "Thanks for letting everyone know the truth about chameleon's masquerade Carol. Some people never thought I was committing those crimes, others did but were relieved to be wrong. Some still don't believe I'm innocent, especially those who never liked me in the first place."
The boy's smile faded and he looked away from the director of SHIELD, who moved to hug him again. Suddenly, Peter shivered and wrapped his arms around himself. Carol quickly put two and two together and felt her new trainee's forehead.
"You're burning up!"
As if on cue, the fifteen year old fell forward into the SHIELD leader's arms. The other agents quickly came and gathered the boy in their arms. Before he lost consciousness, Parker heard Danvers ordering him to be taken to the medical wing.

Peter slowly opened his eyes and was immediately greeted with the site of his beloved Aunt May. She smiled at him and said, "Welcome back, Peter"
"How did you get-"
"Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, flew her here. They and everybody else saw me on T.V talking about you receiving SHIELD training. They also heard how your emotional exhaustion and anxiety over your reputation and instruction from us caused you to faint with fever. Bobby Drake came too; I asked them both to leave so I could talk to her in private," Director Danvers explained.
"Talk about what?"
"About your superhero career and your proposal."
"I'm all for it. In fact I should have asked Fury to train you after I found out you were Spider-Man. You're still just a boy. Sure, you've got power, but you need to be taught how to properly wield it," May proclaimed.
"I should have offered to train you, Pryde, Storm, Drake, and Jessica Drew," Carol added.
"So should have Fury. God knows you all need it, as do all young would-be heroes. If I had taken you under my wing, this whole chameleon fiasco could have been avoided."
"Speaking of which, Carol has agreed to my proposal Peter, " Aunt May continued.
"What proposal?" Peter asked.
"If, God forbid, something were to happen to me, or I was no longer able to care for you, Carol will look after you as your godmother."
"WHAT?!" Peter shouted. Carol touched his hand, with a smirk on her face said, "Inside voice Parker."
Then her smile faded, and she said in a serious tone, "Both of us failed to protect people when we could have. Maybe together, both of us could make up for that."
'She's talking about using as Harry bait to trap Norman,' Peter thought. He'd blamed her when Norman ended up beating Harry, his own son, to death, and told her to stay away from him and his friends. Only now did he realize that he was no better than she was, given what happened to his uncle because of his inaction.
Putting his hand on top of hers, he smiled and said, "Perhaps we could."
I don't own ultimate Spiderman, or any version of Spiderman. I'm kind of surprised that after what happened with Ultimate Chameleon, Peter didn't quit being Spiderman, at least for a while, like in Spider-Man 2. Or ask SHIELD or any other heroes to train him to be better. It also seemed weird how he just bounced back into his routine, especially after the Ultimate Gwen Stacy clone left. He should have stayed depressed for a little while longer, as he was when Bobby and Johnny rescued him and Ultimate Carol Danvers sent him back home. I definitely don't understand why Danvers didn't release a video proclaiming Spiderman's innocence and Chameleon's guilt, given the fake CNN video she sent out of Harry condemning Norman Osborn/Green Goblin!
