He'd had a bad feeling about this. Even while recuperating in a house not his own, trying to regain the memory he had somehow lost, he knew something in the world he had left behind was not right.

And it took only the sight of him and the brat on the television to remind him who he was, and where he was supposed to be. Everything else came back to him in a rush after that.

But when he finally made it back home, things weren't quite as they were before, or how he had expected it to be. And suddenly he found himself doubting his own identity. He was suddenly assaulted by the very same question he had been asking himself for the past couple of months.

Who was he, really?

It was this uncertainty that forced him to hide in the shadows of anonymity. Still trying to figure out where in hell he belonged and if what he could remember of the accident that snatched him away from his world was for real or was a mere product of his playful imagination.

He thought about this every single night as he re-traced the path to his supposed home. He pondered over it as he watched his supposed pink-haired lover run into his arms, sobbing and shivering like a bullied grade-schooler.

He would always stare on through narrowed eyes as his arms move up to hold the teenager tight against himself, whispering assurances into that ear he could vaguely remember nibbling on in the past.

In his past—when he was still living the life that was supposed to be his.

Yes, this was his life.

"Y-Yuki, he's following me again!" he heard his brat sob into that man's chest, alluring still in all his pathetic disgrace.

He could vaguely remember how he had snapped at the brat to shut up when he first told him about it. He really shouldn't have ignored the warning signals that went off in his head the moment he knew about the stalker.

He really shouldn't have waited until his precious little Shu-chan got this close to the object of his fear—without actually knowing it.

"Ssh, don't worry anymore," he heard himself coo as he rubbed a hand to the side of the brat's face. "I'm here. I'll protect you."

And then he saw his precious little brat smile. The kind of smile that boasted of unrivaled delight and satisfaction. "I love you, Yuki."

The kind of things he had not been able to give him.

"I love you, too," he heard himself whisper back. "I always will."

He did not wish to see what happened after that. He did not even want to think about it either. The next thing he knew, he was walking away, not really knowing where to go but that he just had to get out of there. He had to find a way to keep the tears at bay.

He had to keep himself from charging back into his life and ruin everything for his lover.

For the past couple of months, nothing had mattered more to him than having his life back.

Now, nothing had ever been more fulfilling—though in a bittersweet kind of way—than seeing Shuichi—his precious little Shuichi—finding this much love and happiness in his arms.

A feat he could never have done on his own.
