The train station was foggy. It was packed with people but it wasn't obvious at first glance.
Not much could be seen at all through the fog. Hardly anyone noticed the two kids pushing their way through the crowd.
The boy was wearing a torn coat. His pants were cut into shorts. The girl was wearing several jackets and an oversized pair of pants.
The train blew its horn, it would be leaving soon.
"Go!" The boy yelled, pushing the girl towards the train. He doubled over, falling into a coughing fit. "Hurry!"
The girl stared blankly at the boy for a moment. Her dark eyes passed over his worn expression.
"What about you?" She asked. Her voice was small. The boy hardly heard it over the noise.
Steam billowed from the front of the train.
"I'll see you again!" The boy said. "There are doctors where you're going, they'll get you better!" He took the girl's small hand. "I'll be waiting, right here."
He watched the girl disappear into the mass of bodies in front of the train. He looked down at his trembling hands. Sores had formed all over them and up his arm.
The train's wheels screeched as it started to move. People started screaming to be let on.
The boy collapsed to his hands and knees, his vision blurring.
"I'll see you soon," the boy murmured.
