The last time on sg1
"Why my examination results? You said we're all at good health."
"That's right, so please let me finish."
After that Carter gave her waiting and at the same time impatient look whereupon Janet continued.
"Did you use contraceptives lately?"
CHAPTER 5
"Yes why do you ask?"
Janet looked insistently at her friend while her thoughts went into a rollercoaster.
"Wait...Are you telling me that I'm pregnant?"
"The examination results indicate it yes. Just to be sure I would like to do an ultrasound."
Sam nodded and followed Janet behind another privacy curtain.
Sam thought about thousand things while Janet carried the ultrasound out.
She received a child from Jack!
From the one man she loved beyond everything else. She knew that he loved children, but didn't know if he ever again wanted some after Charlies death. They never really talked about it. Charlie and Sara were his past and he left them behind. But now?
She also knew that now they couldn't conceal their relationship any longer. Only if kept secret that he was the father. But she knew that this wasn't something to discuss. They loved each other and wanted to be together.
To be exact they couldn't think of a life without the other and they didn't want to. When they started their relationship they knew that when this whole thing get out they had to witness the consequences of their actions. But so early? They were together for only three months. The best and most happily months of her entire life. She didn't regret anything and the child she was carrying now was the result of their love. Even if that meant to take the responsibility for their actions – court martial, dishonourable discharge from the USAF, jail or something like that. Nevertheless was she happy.
Janet ripped her out of her thoughts.
"You're definitely pregnant. The development of the foetus indicates in the 6th or 7th week."
Sam looked upon the display at the unclear shape of her child. She had to smile, so it was true. Jack and she would get a child, they would be a real family.
"Can you tell what it will be?"
"Not definitely, I guess it's a girl."
Sam smiled and looked lovingly at the picture on the screen.
"Do you want the child?"
"Of course!"
"You know what you're getting into? Your work for the USAF will be strictly limited and you won't be able to go off world."
"Janet I'm pregnant and not sick. If I'm willing to take the risk I can go on walking on unknown planets can't I?"
"If you insist on it, yes you can. But maximum is the 5th month. I think the General will agree with me."
"Until then no-one has to know!"
"What's wrong with you Sam? You're pregnant and you want the child, but you don't want anyone to know."
"I'm a Major of the United States Air Force and I just want to be seen as such in the future. I don't want everybody to be tiptoeing around me and want to help me with every little thing just because I'm pregnant."
"Okay but not later than the 4th month I have to tell the General. The rest is your concern. Finally I'm standing under the patient confidentiality."
"Thanks Jan you're the best." With these words Sam put a kiss on her friends cheek and disappeared from the infirmary.
Janet stared after her friend surprised and also amused. Sam was a strong and independent woman, she knew that. She just hoped that the little hurricane who just left her infirmary knew what she was doing and what expected her. But she had to admit that she was completely taken by surprise on Sams pregnancy. She didn't even know that she had a relationship. It seems to be the right for a little talk between women again. There was a man in Sams life and she didn't know about it? What had happened? Usually she had told her everything. Perhaps this child was the result of a too far gone party flirt, finally she's just a woman. But we're talking about Samantha Carter, a doctor of astrophysicists and the most rational person she ever knew.
While Janet thoughtfully got back to work Sam and the rest of the team made their way back to PQ73X.
"Welcome back on PQ73X. The sun's shining, birds are singing and have a strong feeling of déjà vu."
"We were on this planet two times before O'Neill."
"I know Teal'c that was…ah just forget about it. So Daniel where should this ominous goa'uld trap be?"
"Honestly said I don't know! I think we should try first at the portrait of this uneven pair. I get a feeling that these two have a special role in this."
"Just how think. So let's go right to the palace."
Arriving there Daniel and Teal'c took care of the portraits while Sam and Jack built up the camp for the night.
"What did Janet want from you?" Jack asked after they were finished with the tents.
Sam had waited the whole time for this question, above all after the concerned look he threw at her when he left the infirmary.
She had thought about telling him later, but somehow she couldn't get ride of how wrong this felt. She wanted the man she loved beyond belief to know that he was going to be a father again. Wanted him to know that their love had created a new life. She wanted to enjoy every minute of her pregnancy with him.
Sam put her arms around Jacks neck and kissed him, what he responded happily. Then she looked in his eyes where his love for her mirrored and smiled.
"I'm pregnant."
He looked at her with eyes wide and began to smile as well.
He had been worried. Janet had said that they were all at good health, but nevertheless she wanted to talk to Sam. Alone. When she named the reason for this talk he just needed some seconds to realize what she had said. Her voice echoed in his head. On and on. "I'm pregnant." He just had to smile.
"You're saying we're getting a child, we're going to be a real family?" he asked happily beyond anyones understanding.
She nodded beaming. At this they sank into a deep and gentle kiss.
"I love you Samantha Carter. I love you beyond everything."
"I love you to."
Jack caressed her still flat belly and she smiled at him happily.
When they started to get back to the others the sight in front of them changed. They were again paralyzed just like the last time three months ago at the lake.
A little room appeared in front of them, where the uneven pair sat on the bed and the woman held a baby.
A man, clothed like a monk, entered the room.
"They're coming. I don't know how the found out but they know where you are."
"Do they also know of Mao Li?" asked the woman scared.
"No. No-one knows about your son."
"Good. So you can get him into safety. Maybe we can't safe ourselves, but our son shall live."
"I will do everything within my power to protect your son and I will tell him what great parents he had."
"Thank you Ma-To." she said with a small smile on her lips and tears in her eyes. Then she handed her child over to the monk.
"You have to hurry dear friend und take good care of our son."
"I will. This I swear to you."
Both gave a last kiss to their son before the monk disappeared with him.
They held each other tighter when calls approached.
Then the sight changed again and everything was like before.
Sam and Jack looked more than surprised at each other.
"What the hell…"
"I have no idea."
"Does this happen now every time we're on this planet?"
"When we were here the first time nothing happened. Maybe it's just by accident."
The first time I could imagine that, but now I…ah I really don't know. You're the genius of us."
At his remark she automatically had to smile and Jack replied it. Then he got serious again.
"The question is where do we fit in here? Finally it's us who seeing these things isn't it?" Jack asked still surprised of the fact that this phenomenon happened the second time to them.
"It is probably connected with what we did before we saw these 'visions' or what ever you'd like to call them. When we first came to this planet we weren't together. Perhaps that's why we didn't see anything then?"
"Perhaps your right. It's kinda odd that you tell me about our chid and shortly after that we learn about theirs."
Sam looked at Jack and her eyes were sad when she spoke again.
"I'm so sorry for these two. They did nothing wrong, they just decided to take the way their hearts leaded them into."
Jack stroke gently over her cheek.
"They were like we are, they loved each other and decided to stay together even if it this was forbidden. Like it's prohibited to us and they held a child as result of their love. Like we'll do soon."
At these words Sam looked lovingly in his eyes and answered with a soft voice.
"There are two differences between them and us." then her voice got serious and even a little bit sad.
"First the consequence for us won't be death even if being away from just feels like that."
Jack took her in a tight embrace while she said that.
"Listen to me sweetheart. I won't let them separate us cuz it would be my death as well. I love you and we will find a way." at this he kissed Sam tenderly on her forehead and after that on her mouth.
"I love you too Jack O'Neill, sir."
With that she coaxed a smile on her lovers face.
"And what is the second thing where we differ from them?"
She smiled at before answering "Our child will be a girl."
When he heard that he embraced her hard for the second time and they kissed softly.
"I believe we should better support Daniel and Teal'c on their researches."
"What ever you say Major." Jack said smirking and they headed back to the ruins of the palace.
