A Lover's Burden
I close my eyes at night to dream,
And I still see your smiling face.
Your eyes so blue with truth, they haunt me,
Your smile so full of grace.
I remember when you first held me,
Your soft touch ran shivers down my spine,
You loved me with all heartfelt emotions there could be,
Yet our love must not have been strong enough to bind us.
My eyes once clear now are dark,
I feel I have nothing to gain.
The tears that fall constantly,
Only remind me of the pain.
If I could reach out to touch you,
I'd gladly kneel and beg.
If once more I could kiss you,
I'd die and go to heaven this day.
The memories are the closest thing I have,
But their weight on my back burden me so.
I'd gladly give up my life for yours,
If I didn't have to see you go.
My thoughts grow heavier,
With each passing moment.

How can this be?
