Title: First Among Sinners, First Among Sufferers.

Rated: T, I suppose.

Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, Lynne Ewing does.

Author's Note: Uhm, well, it's a bit cliché and fluffy, but everyone loves that once and a while, right? Right? Also, I may edit this in the future and make it even more descriptive, or add a new character. Oh! And, R&R. I don't mind feedback at all!

Her small petite body laid in a pile of rubble and debris of the old warehouse. Time stood still as Stanton's eyes filled with tears almost instantly as he stared down at his dying one true love. The full moon shone on her and even moments away from death she resembled the Goddess she was. He fell to his knees by her side and embraced her in his arms. He held her close to him and no longer could fight the tears that were so eager to escape. He closed his eyes and ran a hand through her red curls.

"Stanton…" Serena whispered hoarsely. He could see a soft smile form on her lips, but he could feel her wavering emotions and see the look her eyes as she faintly opened them. She was sad. It had been only a day before her seventeenth birthday. She would have sealed her fate to become something greater and remain with him for eternity.

They would have finally found some peace.

"I'm so sorry, baby, I'm so sorry." His sobs broke the silence that hung in the summer night air. He was sorry for not being there in time. She slowly reached up to touch his cheek. She felt so cold as opposed to the warmth she had given him so many times before. He touched her hand and kissed it. "You'll be fine." He said to her, but deep down knowing that he was only trying to convince himself that she would be.

"It's not your fault." She said softly.

"I could have saved you." Stanton denounced himself.

"It's not your fault." She repeated again and coughed. She moved closer to him and he felt her weak voice in his mind. Tell me you love me.

"I love you. I will always love you, you hear me?" He said aloud, always and forever. He kissed her softly on the lips. A tear trickled down the side of face, and she began to close her eyes. "Stay awake! Please, I need you!"

Stanton felt Serena die inside his mind and here in the physical and she gave her last breath in his arms. He screamed out to the darkness that enveloped the ruins. He asked the Goddess Selene for letting this happen to such a beautiful creature, her child! He continued to hold her as he uncontrollably cried. He rocked her back and forth, back and forth and prayed to Hekate, Selene, Hades, for all the Gods of Mount Olympus and beyond to grant him this only wish. He would trade his life for hers.

But his prayers were not answered and he was left there alone with the corpse of the only person who had given him light in a lifetime of darkness and shadows. She was his warmth, his fire, and someone stole it all away from him with one fatal blow.

Lambert.

Stanton laid her down gently as he heard the ambulances draw nearer to the location, "I will make him pay for what he did to you, my Goddess."

Primus apud peccatores, primus apud afflictors. He thought to himself as he slowly rose to his feet. Power radiated from his body and even the shadows seemed to grow darker. No longer would he suppress what was inside him all along. The air hummed with his dark aura as he took a step backward. His body dissolved into shadow as the lights from the ambulance reached them.

"Good-bye, Serena."
