Chapter 3 – McGuire's to the rescue (If you read my other story then you
know this already but for those of you who don't, My aunt was in a head on
car crash last week and at this point I'm trying to keep writing as a way
to keep my mind off of things. She is stable but is still in ICU and still
has a long way to go. Again any and all prayers and well wishes will be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James)
Gordo and Matt sat on the McGuire's back porch. Jo had brought him back several minutes earlier. Matt had just brought Gordo something to drink and was trying to think of the right words to say.
"Anything else happen when you got to your house?" Matt asked just trying to break the silence.
Gordo just looked at Matt. He was taken aback at first by the directness of the question but after a moment he decided that he needed to open up to someone and Matt, the little brother he never had, would be an easy person to do it with.
"Nothing, the house was empty. My mom left me a note saying she gone to my grandmother's house. I guess my dad is with his new girlfriend. Not that I care. Your mom is on the phone with my mom now that I finally remembered the phone number." Gordo explained.
"Why?" Matt asked not understanding.
"To tell her where I am and that I am ok. Give her someone to talk to if she needs it. I'm sure she needs it. As hard as this is for me I'm sure it's got to be worse for her you know?" Gordo replied still showing the strain of the ordeal.
"Yeah I see what you mean. This whole thing just sucks so badly. I guess it just goes to show you that bad stuff can happen to anybody. All I can say is that I'm so sorry Gordo, and if you need anything at all I'm here. I know it's not much but it's all I know to offer." He emphasized to Gordo.
"Thanks, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. As long we remember that it we'll all be ok in the end. I'll probably still end up taking you up on that offer though." Gordo told him with a small smile.
The back door opened and Jo joined the boys in the back yard. Matt and Gordo stood and turned to face her.
"I just got off the phone with your mom." She started.
"How is she?" Gordo inquired, his mother's well being had obviously been on his mind.
"Alright all things considered. She is confused and angry. She said that she might need to stay with her mom for a while to until she figures everything out. I told her not worry about it. That you could stay here as long as she needs you to. She also told me to tell you that she loves you and that she will see you soon and that it will all be ok." She finished really trying to stay strong for Gordo. Jo sighed softly, knowing she would have to do the same for when she talked to Miranda. She considered Gordo and Miranda to be her own children and it was killing her to see them having to go through something like this.
"Hey, Matt can you go inside for a minute?" She then asked her youngest son.
"Umm, sure," Matt answered. He quickly went inside and walked towards the kitchen. When he was safely out of hearing distance Jo continued with Gordo.
"Listen Gordo, You know that Miranda will be staying here too at least for a while right?" She questioned.
"I figured, why?" He wondered where she was going with this.
"Well, I know normally that it wouldn't be an issue but with you guys arguing earlier I thought maybe we should talk about it." Jo informed Gordo.
"Ok, I'm not mad at her.... its just that I look at her," Gordo started but Jo cut him off.
"When you look at her you see her mom, I know. I'm sure when she looks at she sees your dad. I know this is going to be hard for both of you but you guys have been friends for a long time. Just remember to judge her for who she is and not who her mother is." She preached at the emotionally drained teen. Gordo started to say something but stopped and simply nodded his head.
"Come on you can help me with dinner," she stated as she motioned for him to follow her inside. Gordo just shook his head and made his way into the kitchen.
