Chapter 4 – McGuires to the rescue part 2 (An update on my aunt; She is
improving by the day and improving so fast even the doctors can't believe
it. Thank yall so much for your prayers and support. It really has been a
great help to me. I'm pleasantly surprised at the response this thing has
received since the idea just popped into my head one sleepless night. OK,
back to the story.
Love James)
Miranda paced around Lizzie's room. The anger and the pain were written all over her. Lizzie half expected steam to start coming out of her ears. Finally after several minutes of stomping in frustration, Miranda sat down on Lizzie's bed and put her hands on her head.
"I still can't believe this is happening Lizzie," Miranda voiced as she sat on Lizzie's bed.
"I know this is all just so surreal," Lizzie told her distressed friend.
"I just don't understand why this is all happening to me." Miranda admitted.
"Life doesn't ask you if something is ok before it happens Miranda. You just have to deal with things as they happen." Lizzie replied as she sat across the bed from Miranda.
"I know but that still doesn't make this any easier to deal with. This whole thing it just doesn't make sense. I mean its bad enough she's done this but of all the people why Gordo's dad?" Miranda asked partly to Lizzie and partly to the Gods above.
"I don't know Miranda. You can't help who you fall for and I'm sure she didn't mean to hurt you." Lizzie sat down next to Her and put her arm around her. She looked her directly in the eyes and continued, "But I do know that you are gonna make it through this. We all are. I know this isn't going to be easy but I'm here for you. We are all gonna help you through this because we love you, even Gordo." She finished with a hug.
Miranda smiled slightly and chuckled a bit before replying, "I'm not even really mad at him it's just when I look at him I swear I see his father's face. I'm sure she didn't mean to hurt me but this still has screwed everything up and I know its gonna so awkward with Gordo now. You know when we got back to my house we found a note from my mom. She said that they were going to New York to get away from everything and that she would call me soon." Miranda informed her friend.
"And your Dad?" Lizzie questioned.
"Well he wasn't there, your dad brought me back here and said something about finding him and left. I told your mom what he said and then I came up here." She continued her voice now showing more pain than anger.
"So that's where he is. Mom started dinner a while ago. Its probably done by now, why don't we get some food in you?" Lizzie suggested.
"Sounds good," Miranda answered. They started towards the door but before leaving the room Miranda voiced, "Hey Lizzie," When she turned to face her Miranda finished with, "Thank you."
Lizzie smiled at her friend before embracing her. She then simply informed her, "anytime."
The girls had reached the bottom of the stairs when Jo approached them.
"Lizzie why don't you go set the table for me please," she requested.
Lizzie just nodded and walked towards the kitchen. When she was out of hearing distance she turned to face Miranda.
"How you doing sweetie?" She empathetically asked.
"As well as I can be with all this going on." Miranda replied honestly.
"Listen sweetie, Sam called and said that he found your dad. He's upset but Sam has managed to calm him down a little bit. Sam told him about the note and that you were here and ok. Sam also offered to let you stay here with us until this whole thing blows over and everything gets settled down and figured out. He thanked Sam for the offer and said he thought it would be for the best. That way you stay out of it as much as possible. He also told Sam that he figured he is going to have to work all the time now that half the income left. He said to tell you that he loves you and that he will be ok not to worry about him. You understand?" Jo went over with Miranda.
"Yeah, I do. So Mr. McGuire not home yet?" Miranda asked curiously.
"No he is gonna stay with your Dad for a while. Give a shoulder to cry on, be there for him since he really doesn't have anyone else around here he can do that with. Jo took a deep breath and then continued, "You do know that Gordo is going to be staying here too don't you?" Jo reminded her.
"Yes why?" Miranda inquired.
"With the fight earlier I just wanted to make sure you guys are ok." She told the teenager.
"I'm not even mad at him, its just when I look at him," She started but Jo cut her off.
"You see his Dad I know. Miranda just remember you guys have been friends a long time. Make sure you judge him on who he is and not who his father his," Jo preached to the young girl remembering what she had told Gordo earlier.
Miranda nodded but didn't say anything. After a few minutes Jo became concerned.
"What's wrong?" She wondered aloud.
"You guy have been so nice. I don't know what to say." Miranda finally replied.
Jo smiled and then put a hand on Miranda's back and told her, "Come on, lets sit down and eat."
Miranda, Jo, Matt, Lizzie and Gordo then gathered at the table for dinner. Miranda and Gordo just stared at each other blankly, neither knowing what to say or do. Finally after a few uneasy moments Gordo calmly walked over to a chair and pulled it out. He then motioned for Miranda to come over. Miranda smiled and accepted the gesture. As she sat down she gave him a look that said 'I'm sorry'. He gave a return glance that said 'me too' and made his way to his seat. Jo and Lizzie looked at each other and smiled.
