"Really though?" Ace walked alongside her new friend as they headed towards the new HQ of their new employer. Graham nodded.
"Yeah."
"Mary Shelley." Ace raised an eyebrow. "The actual Mary Shelley?"
"I know." Graham smiled slightly. "And not one loo in that whole house. Can you believe that?"
"Seeing as she wrote Frankenstein in a time before indoor plumbing had been invented, yeah. I can." She laughed as he pulled a face at her. She knew the man had been on as many weird and wonderful adventures with the Doctor, but she also knew there was not that many humans in the world that would believe half of them. Time and Space travel was still science fiction to so many people. The whole concept of the TARDIS was so far from what the majority of people would be able to comprehend that it made it just that little bit more special when she met someone who understood.
"Honestly, Graham."
"Well." He shrugged as he held open the door for her. Ace raised an eyebrow before stepping into the foyer of the new UNIT.
"You never did explain what you were doing in the middle of a volcano with a load of Daleks."
He shrugged his shoulder. "Not much else to do on a Sunday night. Nuffin on the telly."
"Graham!"
"Look, you know 'ow it is." He sighed. "Our Ryan is the same. Once you travelled with the Doc, once you know whats out there you can't just let things happen around you anymore."
Ace nodded. She had spent her life since leaving the TARDIS working with UNIT and occasionally Torchwood. She knew there was no way a normal life could be had once you knew what was out there.
"Good morning."
Both Ace and Graham looked up to see the blonde woman walking towards them.
"Hiya. New digs look good."
"Yes, well. I'm under orders not to blow this one up." Kate huffed as her heels clicked on the tiled floor.
"Kate, you know that was the only choice." Graham sighed as he fell into step beside her. Kate shrugged.
"After the government unofficially got rid of Torchwood Cardiff there is more pressure on us to show we are proactive in protecting the planet. I am not talking about climate change either."
"Well." Graham paused. "I am telling you sumfing. They needed Torchwood back and they need UNIT. Say what they want, they have to admit that. Look what 'appened with Jack's lot."
"Exactly." He took his seat next to Iain who was reading the morning paper. "Anyway, they are too busy arguing amongst themselves rather than bothering about Sirulians and whatnot."
"So? Come on then." Jo smiled at the newcomers. "What's going on?"
"The Doctor has regenerated again, and we don't know where they are." Kate huffed. "Not answering any calls."
"So, that was why Yaz was sent home. Poor kid is devastated." Graham shook his head. "Gonna 'av to look after 'er. I know Mel and Dan have been keeping an eye on 'er."
"Good." Kate agreed. "He's been like an older brother to her since all the business with the Flux."
"Being stuck in Victorian England for four years, you mean?" Ace frowned. It seemed that her Professor hadn't really changed all that much. Kate sighed.
"Yes." She looked around the room. "Seems that this time it may not be us that needs the Doctor. They may need us."
