Summary: Missing scene between Jack and Hammond during season 4's Ascension.

The telephone on General Hammond desk rang and he answered it, "This is Hammond, go."

"Hey general," said Jack in a mock friendly tone.

"Jack, what's the situation at Major Carter's house?" Hammond asked seriously.

"Well sir, its like this," Jack began, "the alien Orlin is gone, so's Carter."

"What? Where?" Hammond said as he thought, damn this is bad that Colonel Simmons is going to have a field day with this!

"Well that's the thing is we don't know…but we do know how," said Jack in a strange tone of voice; Hammond thought he could hear disbelief and skepticism.

"Well Colonel, how did they escape?" asked Hammond testily.

"Well you see General, Carter's microwave doesn't work…" Jack began seriously.

"Excuse me Colonel? What does have to do with the escape?" General Hammond demanded irritably, his second in command's perchance for sarcasm and the pointless was wearing thin. Today was not the day for Jack to try to be funny, not with a Carter and the alien missing and he told him that.

"Take it easy George, I'm getting to that in a second," Jack said calmly as if baiting his General was the proper response in this situation.

"Jack…" Hammond said in a dangerous tone, he was in no mood to mess around.

Jack continued on not intimidated, "…and her toaster also seems not either…"

"Jack…" Hammond warned him again.

"…Oh and there's a stargate in Carter's basement," Jack finished.

"JA-" the General froze mid word, wait a minute did he just say…

"Sir, there's a homemade STARGATE in Carter's basement," repeated Jack in amazement. Hammond could just imagine the expression on Jack's face.

General Hammond tried to find the right words to say but nothing came was coming out, "Did you say there's a STARGATE in Major Carter's basement?" he asked eventually in disbelief.

"There's a stargate in Carter's basement," deadpanned Jack.

The General repeated the sentence once, twice then a third time trying to make sense of it. Hammond shook his head, "I guess that means you win the pool," he said lamely.

"I guess I do," Jack replied unhappily.

For a while now the SGC personnel had been running a pool about Carter spent her free time at home. After a while it had developed into a pool about what sort of inventions she kept secretly hidden in her basement. The General had bet, big honking space ray gun, Daniel had bet sarcophagus, Teal'c had bet she was building a Goa'uld mothership and Jack had bet she was building a stargate.

"Bring everything you find there back to the base and I expect a full report when you arrive," he managed to say before putting down the phone.

General Hammond just sat there trying to come to terms with what he had just been told, it was going to be one those days were nothing was impossible. Somebody had built a stargate out of a toaster, a microwave, and the parts that had been ordered online from a licensed construction company…

He reached for the whisky bottle he had stashed in cabinet under his desk just for occasions just like this one.

How the hell was he supposed to explain this to the President!

There were some days when General George Hammond just hated his job as commander of Stargate Command…and today was one of those days!
