Summary: James, Sirius, Remus and Peter are trying to sneak off to Hogsmeade. Teachers get in the way and Dumbledore can see through Invisibility cloaks so it isn't always reliable. They decide to write a map which will help many people do many things.
It was a hot day and everyone was outside, everyone except James, Sirius, Remus and Peter, who were inside. They weren't in the common room or the library. In fact, they were all standing on the third floor corridor. However, this corridor was no ordinary corridor. There was a statue of a one-eyed-witch which hid many things that nobody else knew of.
"All clear," whispered Sirius. James tapped the statue three times with his wand and it opened to reveal a hidden passage way. They all crawled through (Peter needing a little push). You couldn't see the end of the passage but it looked like it would go on for ages. They all started to walk down the passage looking very excited.
After 20 minutes of walking they came to a square patch in the ceiling. Remus pushed it to the side and they all climbed up. They weren't in some special room. It was nothing special at all. It was just a dusty cellar with lots of boxes. Now to anyone else a box wouldn't be worth anything, but they were all running round picking up the boxes and dumping them in the passage.
After 10 minutes they all climbed back into the passage and walked back, carrying boxes. It was hard work carrying them back because the passage way was so small and Peter could just about manage it. Although if worst came to worst he could always transform into a Rat.
They were all animagi, except for Remus – he was a Werewolf. They had eventually worked out that he was a Werewolf, simply for the fact that he disappeared when it was a full moon. They decided they wanted to be with him when he transformed so that he wasn't alone. It had taken a lot of hard work but James worked it out. No one knew they were animagi except for Lily Evans – James' girlfriend.
Finally they reached the end of the passage way. Now came the tricky part – getting the boxes to the common room. The invisibility cloak did help but Dumbledore could see through them. Also walking down a corridor with your arms out in front of you didn't look like the most normal thing.
"We can't keep doing this" said Peter exhausted. "We're going to get caught one day and then we lose everything."
"I know. We need something. Something that can tell us where everyone is and where they're going" said James.
"But where do you find one of those" asked Sirius.
