Tears from Heaven

By, Rogue Wingweaver

Haruka sat on the floor with the blood stained body of his beloved lying before him. Was this real, or just a dream? The tengu didn't know what to think. As realization came over him, tear started to fall. His master, Kantarou was dead.

This had not been so a few hours ago. They had been sent to clear out some youkai from a house and something went wrong.

How could this happen? He questioned.

He had been right there and couldn't do anything. Pain like he'd never imagined, threatened to paralyze him. He looked down at the motionless body in front of him. The scar that had always served as a warning for Kantarou was now split open, emptying life from him.

Haruka knew it wouldn't be long before Youko and Susu found them. It had all seemed normal earlier. A man came and asked Kantanrou to help him for his house seemed to attract mischievous Youkai. Of course Kantarou accepted the job and he and Haruka immediately set out to do the job. Now Kantarou was dead. As Haruka continued to weep, Youko and Susu found him. Walking up behind him they couldn't see the lifeless body in front of him.

"Haruka, what's wrong? Where is Kan…." Youko stopped short when she saw him.

"Kan chan!" Susu screamed.

"Stay away." Haruka warned.

"We were attacked by a powerful demon and before I knew it, he was on the floor bleeding."

Youko looked around the room worried.

"Is it still here?" she asked.

"No, I killed it." Haruka said, his sadness quickly turning to anger.

Both Youko and Susu knew that Kantarou never let Haruka go as far as killing the spirits. He just let him free them from the evil aradama.

Both Youko and Susu remained silent, partly out of fear but also respect. They could see the pain in Haruka's face and knew that the anger would soon evaporate.

In the few months he had spent with Kantarou, Haruka had grown to care for him. They had gone through a lot together. Haruka had never expressed his feelings for Kantarou and now as he sat there, regret began to set in.

The next few days passed swiftly. Youko made all the arrangements for Kantarou, while Haruka spent all his time on the roof. Things were quiet for no one knew what to say to one another. Sorrow and confusion had seemed to settle over the house like a storm cloud. Even though Kantarou was dead, Haruka and Youko were not free. They would forever be tied to the one who named them. There would always be the feeling that part of them was missing.

When it was time, they took Kantarou's ashes out into the forest. They took him to the stone that had once sealed Haruka from the world. It had been his life's dream to find the Tengu and it only seemed fitting that he should rest where that dreamed had been fulfilled. As the wind picked up, they freed the ashes and silently watched as he left them in the breeze. He was gone.

A/N: I know I know, how could I kill Kantarou? To tell you the truth, I don't know. When I wrote this it was like I was possessed. I started writing and then stopped and looked over what I had written and didn't believe it. I almost cried but I had to finish it. If you want to yell at me, review.
