Luke Danes looked up as the front door of the diner banged open at the tail end of the Saturday lunch rush. Seeing that it was Lorelai Gilmore, zooming in like a tornado, he reached for the coffee and a cup. As she plopped herself down at he counter in front of him he handed the cup into her eager hands. After gulping down half the contents Lorelai set the cup down and leaned in for a kiss.

"Thanks Luke-y!" Lorelai said, grinning when he grimaced at the nickname.

"That stuff'll kill ya, ya know." Luke grunted before moving down the counter. He made sure that his back was turned before he allowed himself to smile. As he took orders and pored coffee he snuck looks back at her. He still couldn't believe that she was with him. She could have picked anybody.

It was during one of his glances at her that he saw she was no longer on her stool but behind the counter pouring herself more coffee.

"Hey, you know you're not allowed back here," he growledafter he had moved directlybehind her. Lorelai jumped and spun around.

"Well," Lorelai said, moving in to give him a small kiss, "you were so busy playing Diner Man and you were looking so sexy that I didn't want to bother you." Lorelai let out a giggle when Luke blushed and shoved out from behind the counter.

"Now sit down and be quiet for a change. I'll be right back and then I'll get you whatever you want."

"Dirty!"

"Quiet or I won't feed you!" Since that effectively shut her up Luke grabbed two plates and delivered them to a table where an older, out of town couple was smiling at the pair. As he came back around the counter Luke looked at Lorelai and smiled. "Now, what do you want to eat?"

"Hey, Luke, Cheeseburger and fries up!" Caesar called out from the back.

"You already ordered?" Luke asked Lorelai. "I thought I told you to stay at the counter."

"But I was hungry!" Lorelai whined, throwing in her best puppy dog face when she saw that it wasn't working.

"You really are something, you know that?" He asked as he handed her the plate. "Now eat fast, I've got something I want to show you. I know, I know, 'dirty', right?

"I knew I'd rub off on you eventually!"

"Dirty!" Luke said with a smile. "Now eat!" Ten minutes later, as the last customer left the diner Lorelai swallowed the last bite of burger.

"Done? Good, come with me." Luke said as he grabbed her hand and pulled her up the stairs as she laughed at him.

"What is with you today? I can't figure-" she began but stopped when he kissed her.

"Just stay here for a minute," he said as he gently pushed her into a chair. Lorelai watched as he started digging through his underwear drawer.

"You know babe, I think I've already seen that," she said with a grin.

Just then Luke found whatever it was that he was looking for and came back to sit next to her. "This was my mother's. Before she died she told me to give it to the woman I loved and well, I'm giving it to you.

With that Luke handed Lorelai an old-fashioned jewelry case. When Lorelai opened it, she saw a small gold locketon a chain.

"Luke, it' beautiful!"

"My father gave it to her for their first anniversary," he explained as he removed it from the case. "Will you wear it?"

"Yes, I'd love to" Lorelai said as she turned so that he could fasten it. When she turned back around, she flung herself into his arms and whispered, "thank you, I love you too" into his ear.
