A/N: The only characters I own in this story are Alex Jenson, Auntie Candy, and Uncle George. I do not own any of the characters from National Treasure, I only wish I did.

Here it is! My first National Treasure fanfic! I would really appreciate reviews, and I would like it if you guys tell me if I'm in character or not, and how I could improve this story. Also, I don't really know where this story is going yet, so I'm open to suggestions! And now, on with the story!

Riley leaned back in his chair, having just finished two stacks of pancakes, and belched loudly.

Abigail glared at him across the table with a look of absolute disgust displayed on her face.

"What? It's a compliment," he insisted.

Abigail was about to counter his comment when the doorbell rang.

"Talk about saved by the bell," he remarked, jumping up from his seat and heading into the front entranceway. The doorbell rang again, resounding throughout the house as he reached the door.

"Coming, coming," he muttered, unlocking the door and opening it. Upon seeing who was on the other side Riley's expression changed from annoyed and rushed to bewildered and unpleasant.

Standing on the doorstep of the mansion he shared with Abigail and Ben was Alex Jenson, his thirteen year old cousin. She had a backpack slung over her shoulder and a large suitcase was resting at her feet.

"Nice to see you, too," she smirked, flipping her long brown hair over her shoulder.

"Alex, what are you doing here?" he demanded.

"I'm staying with you for a month. Didn't you get any of Dad's messages? He sent like a billion of them."

"Uh, no, I didn't get any messages," Riley said, clearly thrown off by the information he had just received.

Just then Ben and Abigail appeared at his side.

"What's going on?" Abigail asked.

"You must Dr. Chase and Mr. Gates," Alex said, smiling at them and shaking their hands. "I'm Alex Jenson, Riley's cousin."

"Apparently she's staying with us until August," Riley said, clearly unhappy.

"You never told us that!" Abigail exclaimed accusingly. "It would have given me more time to prepare a guest room for Alex."

"That's because I didn't know she was coming," he explained through gritted teeth. "I would have found somewhere else for her to go if I knew."

"There is nowhere else," Alex informed him smugly. "Mom tried everyone else in the family, but they're all busy with their summer plans. You were our last resort."

"Well, isn't that nice to know," Riley said sarcastically. "Why did Auntie Candy and Uncle George send you here anyway?"

"They're going on a second honeymoon in the Bahamas," Alex said, rolling her eyes.

"And they couldn't take you with?" he questioned desperately.

"Riley," Ben said in a warning tone.

"Come on in, Alex," Abigail said. Riley watched in horror as Alex stepped inside and Ben grabbed her suitcase.

"What? You mean, you guys are actually going to let her stay here? It is your house, after all. You don't have to give my bratty cousin room and board if you don't want to," he insisted.

"Riley, don't be silly. We'd be delighted to have Alex stay with us," Abigail said.

"And if she's anything like you, it'll be a very interesting experience for all of us," Ben added. At that time none of them knew how right Ben was.

Well? What did you think? Please review! I will only continue this story if I get 5 reviews for this chapter, so if you liked it, review!
