After about of thought and people asking & the cartoon getting major attention, I decided why not try to make my own story of this.
Another reason is because I've only seen a few Oc stories, but nothing that really stood out to me, except one story where Eda was Luz's mother, which ain't to bad at all.
Plus, my fellow author CowboyAlchemist recently made his calling it The Seventh Son and again, not a lot Oc stories.
And, so ultimately, I'll joining in on it to, hope you all like the beginning of Mysterious Magic
Chapter 1
A Lying Witch, Warden & Fortunate Warlock
As of the moment we see a series of isles in the water, but upon further notice, most of it was some sort of part of a skeleton of some sort of massive creature, it's bones were seen sticking out into the sky and what remained of it's body was made up the islands.
This is the Boiling Isles an island chained in the Demon Realm populated by all sorts of magical creatures with a town located in the remains of a dead titan. In fact the very corpse of the titan makes up the whole landscape of the very island itself. They very place was by far very strange, but to the residents living there it was normal and part of their everyday life.
But now our attention is refocused right near a cliff. There was a large house made from white brick with a sloping blue roof. A stained glass window above the door gives the impression of a large orange demon eye. Much of the house consists of a crumbling stone tower with orange moss growing on it.
We now see the inside of a room which multiple shelves that were filled with different types books and movies. There was also a small tv in the corner with a Ps4 littered with a few games on top. There were also different looking 'bizarre' decorations, like a totem pole, shrunken head in a jar, and a tiki statue.
Most noticeably, there was a framed poster depicting some sort of human casting off different spells wearing a cloak. It read: Wanted, Devil Eye Reward 50,000000.
The door to the room opened, someone entered into the room. It was a tall, thin woman with pale skin and golden eyes. Her untamed hair is thick and long and layered with two tones of gray. Her most notable features are a single gold fang, pointy ears, and orange claw-like nails. An amber oval-shaped jewel is embedded into her stomach, including a ring that had a similar stone. This was Edalyn Clawthorne, or simply Eda for short, she was known by her nickname, the Owl Lady and a bounty on her head for over one trillion snails which was the currency of that world.
And right now, she was eyeing on a bed covered in a thick brown blanket and snoring could be heard from underneath. Sighing in annoyance she reached behind her, and pulled out, a blowhorn?
Raising it into the air, with a grin intact she pressed it making the signature loud noise. The one who was sleeping screamed falling off the bed with a hard thud and a Snorlax plushie going across the floor. Eda laughed at this, and not very long after a big pillow was sent hitting her right in the face shutting her up.
" Oh come on mom! I hate it when you do that! " The one who yelled this out was a male teenager who was around fourteen years of age. He had short blackish hair, that seemed almost similar to Eda's only the front was a bit pointing out forward. He also had pointed teeth and the most noticeable feature of his appearance, was a black eye patch covering his left eye that was decorated with a white stringed outline. It was the same one depicted in the wanted poster. As for the eye that wasn't covered it was more of a silver color. His night wear consisted a plain black shirt with dark blue shorts.
" Well excuse me sleepy head, but I've called you at least four times and you didn't answer. "
" And you could've woken me up like a normal mother would've possibly? " He retorted making his said parent roll her eyes.
" Uh-huh, well you forget, I'm not like most mothers. " She reminded him likely playfully flicking his nose. " Being the son of the Most Powerful Witch of the Boiling Isles ain't a walk in the park. And besides, it was already time for you to get up. Now get a move on, we got some money to make. "
Evan gave off a yawn waving her off. " Alright, alright. Just let me get dressed. "
" Hurry it up. " Eda ordered as she left the room.
" Don't tell me hurry it up! " Evan spat back and closed the door sighing in annoyance. He then opened up his closet and got changed. His Pj's landed on his bed and by then the doors closed revealing his clothing for the day.
It consisted of what appeared to be a dark purple poncho with a black and white stripped shirt underneath, dark brown pants and a pair of black studded boots.
" Okay... " Evan looked at himself in the mirror readjusting his clothing. " Let's do this... "
" Come on Evan! We ain't got all day! " Eda called out.
" Hold your horses! I'm coming mom! " He replied back before exiting out of his room closing the door behind him.
Else where in the human world something else was going on right near a dense forest was a small house and there was someone standing on the sidewalk.
Her name was Luz Nozeda a Dominican-American, fourteen-year-old, tall petite girl with tan skin, hazel brown eyes, and purplish-brown hair. Her clothing consists of: a pair of black earrings, a white and purple hoodie with cat ears attached to the hood, short jean-shorts, black leggings, and a pair of white slip-on shoes.
As for what was happening, she was getting sent to a Summer Camp to get a sense back into reality.
The reason for this was because do to her weird and imaginative behavior was supposedly going out of control and one the components for her book report bit her school principal right in the face. So now, while everyone was gonna have fun, she was now getting stuck in going somewhere she didn't even wanna go much to her displeasure.
The door to the house opened up revealing a woman who was Luz's mothers, Camilia Nozeda and from the clothing she had on she was most likely a nurse. " Oh...Oh my baby... " She goes up to her depressed daughter and gives her a hug. " Now don't worry Summer Camp is only going to be for three months. You'll be so busy balancing check books and learning to...appreciate public radio the time will fly by! "
" But I don't like any of that stuff... " Luz said looking to her mother. " I like editing anime clips to music and reading fantasy books with convoluted back stories. " She said looking at one of her said books.
" Mijya, your fantasy world is holding you back. Do you have any friends? " She questioned. " Real ones? Not imagine, not drawn or reptilian? " Luz sadly gazed down at her book and slowly went over to a trash can. " Summer Camp is a chance to make some friends. But you have to try, can you do that? "
" Yes mom... " Luz reluctantly answered and placed her book into the garbage and on que her mothers phone buzzed.
" Oh! I gotta go to work! " She quickly goes over and delivers a few kisses to her daughter. " Your bus is coming soon. Text me when you get there. Cuídate mucho, mija. ¡Qué te vaya bien! " With that said she left.
" Bye mom... " Luz said sadly not looking forward to summer camp. The young girl looked to make sure her mother was gone and went back to get her book. Only to her shock to see that it was gone. " Where is it? Where is it? " A hoot was heard making her look over to see a small brown owl dragging a small bag and in that bag was her book. The small owl then began to hop away.
" Tiny trash thief! " She gave chase and surprisingly much to her surprise the owl was much faster then she originally thought. She then paused upon seeing that the owl was hopping towards a small abandoned looking creepy house and heard someone else coming. Quickly hiding away she watched from the bushes to Evan coming up carrying a bag of his own wearing a gray wrap scarf to hide his ears and approached the owl.
" Hey Owlbert. Did you find some stuff? " Evan got a hoot back in response. " Yeah me too. I'm telling ya, it's amazing what humans can throw away. Some of this stuff is still good. Lets head on back. " He said getting a hoot from the owl now identified as Owlbert in agreement before going into the house. Meanwhile Luz got out of the bushes and looked reluctant at first to enter.
But with a growl of determination to get her book back she ran inside with the door of the old looking house slamming behind her.
When it happened a bright yellow flash of light shined through the house. Then all the sudden we now see what appears to be the inside of a tent full of a whole bunch of stuff with something folding out into a wooden door with a large yellow eye with Evan and Owlbert making their way through unaware that Luz had entered the tent.
" Huh? " She stops and gazes around her surroundings to see it was full of a lot of bizarre items. " Whoa...I thought I had a lot of weird stuff. " She picks up a creepy looking doll with a clothes hanger sticking out of it's head. " But this is impressive. " She didn't notice the dolls arms was reaching out for her.
" Finally! " A female's voice was heard making her flinch and duck down. " Your both back! "
" Sorry, for the wait, I just grabbed whatever I could. " Evan apologized setting bag down. while Luz peeked through the opening to see Eda wearing a green head scarf covered in white dots. " Almost got caught to. "
" That's okay. Now let's see what we've got here. " Eda said as Owlbert landed on top of a her staff, before getting twisted on top appearing to be some sort of talisman closing it's eyes before the mother and son to dig through the bags while Luz watched on in curiosity.
Eda pulls out a smartphone. " Garbage. " She tosses it aside and Evan catches it. " Eh, it's broken. " He said before tossing it aside while Eda brings out a diamond ring. " Garbage. " Evan snatches it from her. "I'll take that. "
" What? You looking for a wife? " Eda asked teasingly.
" Pff, nah, I just like collecting treasure. " Evan replied and continued digging through the bag.
Eda then pulls out a shiny looking grail. " Garbage. " She tosses it aside and gasps in excitement. " Now this... " She places on a set of googly eye glasses that had springs which fell out. " This will make us rich! "
" Uh...yeaaaah...I don't think so... " Evan chuckled at his mothers antics and frowns before dumping out the contents of the bag which revealed to be manga multiple volumes of manga that were in perfect condition, no stains, rips, nothing. " Look at this! " He exclaimed in anger. " Who throws out perfectly good manga!? " He sorts out the items and gasped in excitement pulling out a dvd from the piles. " The Dark Crystal? Yes! I've been looking for this for months! "
" Ugh, Evan that fantasy stuff humans make up, ain't nothing compared to what it's like here. " Eda commented digging through her bag.
" So what? You got yo hobbies, I got mine. " Her son countered putting on a ghetto accent as she pulled out Luz's book.
" Can't argue there. You want this? " She asked showing her kid who laughed lightly.
" Ha, yeah, no thanks. I prefer what I just found the garbage then that. " He replied bitterly.
" Alright, if you say so. At, least this'll make good kindling. " Eda placed the edge of the book over a candle making Luz gasp in shock and ran out.
" Excuse me, sorry it's mine, thank you! " She quickly swiped it out of Eda's hands surprising both mother and son. While the young teenager was running for the door, that brought her there, it suddenly closed and folded three times turning into the shape of a suitcase.
The one responsible for this, was Eda, holding a key that had the same eye as the door did. Luz turned around and to see Evan glaring at her along with Eda who took off the fake glasses. " You're not going anywhere. "
Panicking Luz quickly got underneath the tarp of the tent and made a run for it. However, she didn't get very far, and stopped skidding to a halt, gasping in shock. From the height she was on, her eyes laid upon a very strange and unusual looking city, in fact many of the buildings looked like they were alive. A serpent creatures was flying across the air before getting snatched by a hang held up in the air before getting drug down.
Then there were the towns folk, they were defiantly not human, in fact some of them were just plain weird, in all different forms, shapes and sizes with different features. " Oh, no, no, no, no! " Luz was starting to freak out and backed up in fear. " What's going on? " A cute little pink fairy flew up to her making her shriek in surprise. Before calming down.
" Oh, hello, little fairy. Are you going to tell me, this is all a fantastical dream? " She asked shrugging her shoulders nervously smiling.
She got different answer in response. " Give me your skin! " The fairy yelled with it's mouth and teeth grow much more larger. She screamed and then swatted it down.
" Where am I? Did I die? " Luz asked herself growing fearful. " Am I in the bad place? "
" Nope. " A familiar voice answered revealing to being Evan standing next to her while his mother put a hand on the girls shoulder.
" You wish. " They dragged her back and threw her onto a stool in front of their booth.
Quickly, Luz huddled her leg's together in fear. " I'm so sorry, I just wanted, my book, if your gonna eat my skin, quick! Just do it now! " Luz held out her arm closing her eyes and turned her head away.
Hearing this made Eda and Evan exclaim a look of confusion and back at her. " Eat you? " Eda questioned breaking the silence. " Why would we eat...A potential customer? " Hearing this took Luz by surprise while Evan groaned at this rubbing his temples while his mother was trying to make a sell.
" Can I offer, you a human foot filled with holes? " She brought out a green croc. " A bar of green human candy? " She pulled out a small deodorant. " Oh, oh! How about this black shadowbox, that reflects only sadness? " She pulls out a small portable tv that showed Luz's reflection on the black screen.
" Mom, for the sixteenth time. I told you that's a tv. I got a bigger one in my room. You see it, everyday. " Evan said in annoyance.
Luz laughed at this. " He's right actually. Here, let me see it. " She grabbed two batteries from a bowl labled 'human candy' and placed them into the empty slots, closing the cover. She then turned it on, revealing some old eighty's work out video. " Voila! "
Immediately the sound of the tv was drawing everyone's attention. They gathered to the booth gazing at the small tv as if it was a priceless piece of treasure.
" I'll pay forty snails for the screaming box! " Immediately one monster busts out some money. " I'll give you a hundred! " Another offer was made.
" Can I eat the tiny person inside? " One of the monsters questioned. By then different monsters were joining and clamoring all over leaving the two stunned.
" What did you say your name was? " Eda asked looking at the female teens direction with a smirk.
" I'm Luz. Luz Nozeda. " She said.
" Well, Luz, that was pretty clever...For a human. " Eda said while taking their money with Evan helping her out.
" That's kind of a weird thing for another human to say. " Luz tilted her head appearing to amuse Eda.
" Oh, dear child. " Eda took off her head scarf revealing her pointed ears. " I'm not like you and neither is he. " She gestured to her son and got up onto the table. " I'm Eda The Owl Lady! The most powerful witch on the boiling isles! "
" A witch? " Luz couldn't believe what her ears heard.
" I am respected, feared- "
" Busted. " Another voice came in followed by a fist smashing onto the tv that was playing scaring Luz making her hide.
" Run! It's a guard! " All their business ran away in fear from a tall buff creature wearing a black and white robe with a long cone mask covering it's front face letting only it's blue eyes to be seen.
" Eda the Owl Lady, you are wanted for misuse of magic and demonic misdemeanors. " The guard said holing up a wanted poster of her wielding her staff and holding a fireball in another. Standing next to her was some sort of canine creature.
" Whoa! Witch criminals! " Luz wasn't expecting this at all as she watched him grab Eda by the arm.
" You both are hereby ordered to come with me to the Conformatorium! "
" Would you guys quit following us around? " Eda asked in annoyance getting her arm loose. " We haven't done squat. "
" And your coming too! " He grabbed onto Luz by her hood lifting her up into the air.. " For fraternizing with criminals. "
" Wh-What!? That's not cool! " Luz complained.
" Hey, let her go! " Evan said speaking up to her defense. " She ain't done nothing wrong! "
" And don't think I haven't forgotten about you Evan Devil Eye! " The guard snapped looking over to him. He then pinched his nose and hummed in anger before gasping.
" Oh my gosh it's the emperor! " He yelled out on the top of his lungs pointing right behind the guard.
" Where!? Oof! " He fell for it and Evan used the moment to grab his moms staff to hit him in the head. Tumbling to the ground afterwords.
While Luz flabbergasted at what'd just happened, Eda instead smirked. " That's my boy... " She said proudly patting him on the head and brought out her staff twirling it around. She then slammed the end down, making all the stuff in front of the tent become coated in a gold aura.
" Did you get the Interdimensional door? " Evan questioned tapping his foot on the ground making the rest of the tent disappear in brief flash.
" Oh, thank you for reminding me. " Eda said to her child pulling out the same key from before pressing it's eye making the door now a suitcase that flew into the hovering pile and was wrapped up in a large green sheet which tied onto her staff. She then tucked it over her shoulder.
" Follow us human! " Eda instructed as Evan quickly grabbed her hand getting her back up to her feet while the guard was now in pursuit.
" This is crazy! " Luz yelled as they were running. " If I die here, my mom's gonna kill me! "
" Yeah, I'm pretty sure you got that all reversed... " Evan commented.
" Ha! Relax, we let them hurt you. " Eda reassured Luz as they continued their escape. " A human like you is more valuable to us alive then dead. "
" Wait, what's that supposed to- " She didn't get to finish her question.
" Woo-hoo! " Eda cried out jumping into the air grabbing both of the teenagers with the owl totem spreading out it's wings and flew up into the air.
As this happened, the guard came from behind. " You won't get away with this, Owl Lady! " He paused at what he said. " Yeah, all right. You did. You got away with it...She got away with it, everybody!...Typical... " He said walking off resuming his patrol.
In the distance the trio was now flying on Eda's staff while Luz was closing her eyes as tight as she could letting a few tears fly out.
" You can open your eyes now human~ " Eda spoke up making Luz do so and did the one thing everyone typically does. Look down to see that they were way high up, freaking her out and made her almost slip.
" Whoa, gotcha... " Evan quickly straightened her up on the staff.
" Flying staffs, crazy monsters, your a witch and your a... " She stops mid sentence upon seeing Evan. " Wizard? "
" Actually, I prefer, Warlock. " He corrected shrugging his shoulders. " Everyone choses they're titles. "
" What is this place!? "
" This is the Boiling Isle's " Eda answered her question as they flew out further to the isles with the rib bones of the titan seen in the distance. " Every Myth you humans have is caused by a little bit of our world leaking into yours. "All the sudden a pidgeon with a lion's body came flying right by them.
" A griffon... " Luz was amazed to see a real one in person then it got weird and breathed out a large amount of spiders. " I knew it! " She happily exclaimed pointing out for some reason.
" Yep. " Eda, listed them off. " Griffons, vampires, giraffes... "
" Giraffes? " Luz was confused to hear this since Giraffe's were an animal they'd find back in her world.
" Oh yeah, we banish those guys. "
" And we also banish skunks. " Evan added as they flew down into the forest to make their landing. " There all a bunch of freaks... " He said getting off the staff.
" I know... " Eda agreed as she got off to while Luz was still absorbing everything that was happening and heard the sounds of bones. She looked to see one of Eda's hands were still holding onto it scaring her off.
" Uh mom...your hand... " Evan said pointing to missing body part.
" Whoops. That happens sometimes. " Eda said before twisting it back on reattaching it back to her body while Evan helped Luz back onto her feet.
" Well I've had enough adventure for one day. This is clearly not the PG fantasy world I always dreamed about. " She said while walking forward and turned to them both. " So could you both help me get back home? " Eda tapped the end of her staff on Luz's shoulder.
" Only if you help us first. " Eda said before laughing and made the bag full of stuff magically float beside her. " Now come along human. "
" Whoa... " Luz said in amazement as she began to follow them. She then looked over to Evan with a smile. " Hey, thanks for standing up for me back there. What's your name? "
The young warlock smiled back. " It's Evan. "
" Mom we really should get her back home... " Evan whispered as they continued walking back to their home with Luz right behind them. " The Boiling Ile's isn't exactly always 'friendly'...Especially to outworlders. "
" I know that. " Eda whispered back.
" Then what's the hold up? "
" Just trust me on this one Evan. " She whispered back to her son before they arrived back home with an owl that had a human face laugh as it flew away.
" Aren't you both worried those guards finding us? " Luz asked nervously looking behind them.
" Nope. Our house has a state of the art defense system. " Eda answered.
" That and a portion of them seem to be really dumb. " Evan added.
" Hoot, hoot. " A wooden barn owl face on the door spoke up in a high pitched voice. " Password please " As Evan was gonna anwser Eda jabbed two fingers into it's eyes and it was painful. " Aah! "
" We got no time for this Hooty. " Eda deadpanned. " Let us in. "
" All right, all right, geez. You never wanna have any fun. . " Hooty made a loud retching sound and literally opens his mouth all the way giving them a way inside. They entered with Eda leaving the bag outside and then Hooty closed his 'mouth' before burping.
Eda then snapped her fingers. " Welcome to...the Owl House. " On que candles began to light up, a fire place went blazing and cleaning equipment began to float in the air and clean followed by a strange symbol resembling a bird shining it's outlines depicting some sort of bird creature.
" It's not to much, but it's home. " Evan said plopping down on the couch sighing in content. On the wall behind the couch was a various amount of different items including Eda's wanted poster which was framed.
" This is where we hide away from the pressure of modern life... "
" Also the cops. " Evan added.
" And ex boyfriends. " Eda finished snorting with a chuckle.
" This place is beautiful. " Luz commented in awe gazing at the inside. " Is it just you two living here? " All the sudden the house began to shake along with loud footsteps being heard.
" Actually we have a roommate. " Evan answered as a shadow was seen from the entrance to a hallway.
" Who dares intrude upon I!? " The voice grows less loud with the shadow decreasing in size. " The king of demons!? " They now see what made the shadow. It was a small canine creature. Mostly covered in dark gray fur, although it's torso and the tip of it's tail are covered in light gray fur. The creature has three fingers and two toes that (excluding thumbs) looking like white claws. It wears a red collar with a yellow tag and has pink eyes with yellow sclera. The highlight of it's appearance is a buffalo-like skull, with a broken horn attached to his head.
It also appeared to have gotten out a bath, because it was wearing towels covered in ducks and he was holding a rubber ducky making it squeak a few times.
Luz gained an instant look of excitement and gasped. " Ay, que lindo! " She exclaimed in Spanish scoopiing the small creature off the floor making it's towel's fall off and dropped it's rubber duck. Luz began to hug up on him. " Eda, Evan, he is so cuuuute! Who's a widdle guy? Who's a widdle guy? Is it you? Is it you? " She was acting like the creature was some sort of little puppy and was rubbing her face against it.
" No! I don't know who your little guy is! " The canine cried out. " Eda, Evan! Who is this monster!? "
" Oh, this is Luz, the Human. She's here to help us with our little 'situation'. " Eda answered getting Luz off of him who wanted to hug him some more.
" Oh, Hurray! " The canine changed it's mind.
" Wait-wait-wait... " Luz made them pause for a second. " I don't like the sound of this, 'situation'. " She air quoted.
" Just... " Eda got in front of them. " Let me explain. " With a motion of her fingers, a black circle appeared showing different depictions that almost seemed like drawings that moved as she was telling the story. " King, was once a mighty king of demons, until his crown of power was stolen, and he became...this... " She motioned to the said canine.
" You mean this little bundle of joy? " Luz asked holding King in her grip once again hugging him.
" Depending on your point of view... " Evan commented in deadpan tone.
" The crown is being held by the evil, Warden Wrath and locked away by a magical force field, that only a human can break through. A human like you. " The viewing circle vanished. " If you help us retrieve his crown and another important item, we'll send you back to your realm. " Eda explained her conditions. " So what'dya say? Plus..." She picks up King by the head and begins shaking him around a bit. " Who, can say no to this cute face? "
" I could. " Evan said bluntly from the side.
" No! " He struggles to break free. " Please, don't encourage her! "
Eda drops him onto the floor making a thud. " I mean...Were kind of your only way home. "
" So I really don't have choice do I? " Luz asked nervously.
" In this case yeah. " Evan answered getting up from the couch. " But, as long as your with us, you'll be fine. " He said trying to reassure her and it seemed to work a little.
" Well, that's good to hear. " Eda grabs Luz by the waist and hoists the girl over her shoulder and walks over to the door. " Now we've got no time to lose."
" Soon Mr Ducky... " King picks up the duck he was holding earlier making it squeak. " We shall drink the fear of those who mocked us! " The canine follows them.
" Where are we going? " Luz asked in curiosity.
" Somewhere super fun! " Eda answered.
" Translation, somewhere very dangerous... " Evan commented sarcastically.
We now change the location to what appeared to be a massive prison with a noticeable tall tower right in the middle. " What is this place? " Luz asked as the thunder clapped making her flinch a little bumping into Evan who didn't really seem to mind it.
" The Conformatorium. " Eda answered. " A place for those considered 'unsuitable' for society. "
" Pff, like some the jackwads running this place are no better. " Evan said bitterly feeling the same way his mother did. Luz noticed a wanted poster of Eda and Evan taking them both down.
" Whoa. These guys really have the hots for you. "
Eda winked at her. " Yep. But we were never caught because we're too slippery. " She said confidently.
" Try to catch me when I'm covered in grease. " King said sitting on top of Luz's head. " I'm a squirmy little fella. Aaah! " He fell off but got back up and began explaining there plan. " You, me and Evan will sneak up to the top of the tower, where they're holding my crown. " The canine said pointing to the said tower.
" And I'm gonna make sure that the wardens distracted. " Eda chimed in making Luz gasp in excitement.
" Will I need a disguise? "
" Uh... " Eda didn't know how to respond to this.
" I've been waiting to use this... " Luz pulled her hood over. " Meow, meow. " She straightened the cat ears up making Evan do his best holding back a laugh.
" It's hideous. " King commented and Evan whacked him on the head.
" Oh you'll fit right in. " Eda said differently and planted her staff on the ground making a circle of light appear underneath their feet. " Hang on tight. " She instructed backing up. The circle then hovered into the air up to the tower stopping at a window. Immediately Evan jumped and caught Luz who was about to fall because the platform disappeared.
Down below Eda let her staff fly and took a seat as it flew by. " Meet you guys at the top of the tower! " She said flying off into the air.
" Alright, you heard her, come on. " Evan said quickly climbing inside. King proceeded climbed up Luz to get in while Evan gave Luz a hand. But she fell face flat in the process.
" Ha-ha! " King laughed pointing at her. " Cat's don't do that! OW! " He got smacked behind the head by Evan.
" You alright? " He asked helping her up.
" Yeah, thanks. " She got back to her feet and gasped in awe because they were now in a massive cell block with different levels seen below and above. They all made a clear one way opening where the middle was empty. " Whoa... "
" Hey, Handsome. " They turned to see a girl in a cell. She had pointy ears, dark skin, black hair in a ponytail, hazel eyes and notorious fangs. She wears a purple shirt/dress which bares her shoulders and covers all of her upper arms and about half her forearms. She has a gold band around her neck.. " How'd you and cat lady get out of your cell? "
" Oh, no, no, no, I'm not a cat. " Luz said taking off her hood. " Also, I'm not a criminal. "
" Not yet you aren't. " King chimed in holding onto her.
" Neither are we. " The girl said in an annoyed tone. " The stupid warden likes to lock people up who don't fit in. "
" Oh, yeah? What are you in here for? " Evan questioned.
" I write fanfics of food falling in love. " She answered brining out a book that showed just that.
" That's the reason why your in here? " Evan asked completely finding the charge entirely stupid.
" Yeah, I like food, I like love...Just let me write about it! "
" I'm here because I like eating my own eyes. " A multi eyed creature said who did just that. It's eye returned back to the socket it was pulled out of.
" We are agents of fwee expression! " Said a small white creature who was practically a head with small limbs and a noticeable big nose. " They will never siwence us! "
" What about her? " Evan asked.
" She's really big into conspiracy theories. " Fanfic girl answered rolling her eyes as the head continued on.
" The world is a simuwation! " She screamed. " We are but pwaythings for a higher being! "
" Wait. These aren't crimes. " Luz said slowly pacing in front of the cells. " None of you actually did anything wrong. " Widening her eyes in realization she pulls out Eda's wanted poster. " Your all just a bunch of wierdos...like me... " The ground started shaking and thudding footsteps were heard.
" It's Warden Wrath! Hide! " Fanfic girl said and quickly enough Evan pulled Luz and King inside and open cell and slammed down the door down. Once they were in the corner Evan quickly pulled out some sort of cloak and placed it over them immediately making them blend in with their surroundings.
Meanwhile a door opened and the one called Warden Wrath emerged. He was humanoid creature with a large, muscular build. He wears a hood that is non-standard for a guard and a mask with yellow button-like lenses, resembling a medieval plague doctor. He wears a white sleeveless tunic with brass buttons, a leather belt with a brass buckle, and black trousers tucked into dark purple shoes. On the uniform, one can also see a triangular brass badge, which apparently emphasizes his position.
" I can hear you. " He said in an firm eerie voice making Luz terrifying Luz but quickly enough Evan put a hand on her mouth. Taking a few steps forward made the ground shake. " Just what are you fools whispering about? " Wrath looks down. " Ah, the Owl Lady. " Kneeling down he picks up the poster Luz dropped. With a snarl his crumbled up the paper and his fist turned into a hammer which smashed into the cell where the trio were hiding leaving a large dent. " I'll get my hands on her and the Devil Eye soon enough. "
" Fight against the opwessor! " The conspiracy head yelled out. " We will wesist! We will conquer! We will never be afwaid of you, you old cweep! " Wrath opens the cell. " Hooway! I'm fwee! " Wrong, the warden grabbed her.
" Let this be a lesson to all of you. " Wrath spoke up. " There's no place in society for you if you can't fit in. " The head gave off a muffled scream as she was carried away. Once Wrath left the three of them got out of their cell.
" Don't worry, I can get you out! " Luz said and went over to the handle but was having a hard time pulling it. " No! My weak nerd arms! "
" Both of you just get out of here while you can. " Fanfic girl said sadly. " Enjoy freedom for us. " Evan put a hand on Luz's shoulder shaking his head. The trio then made their way to higher levels avoiding attention. But teenage warlock could tell Luz was really bothered by how all those prisoners were treated. As he was about to say something, his mother came up next to them flying.
" Hey, I just checked. " Eda said getting off her staff. " The warden is distracted, tormenting some tiny creature. He won't be coming around here anytime soon. "
Luz didn't say anything but instead continued walking forward making Eda look to Evan in confusion. She stopped in front of a large door that read Contraband.
" My crown! It's close! " King eagerly said running over to the door. " I can sense it's power! " He jumped and tried turning the knob.
" Aw, he gets so cute when he's thirsty for power. " Eda said watching him try.
" It's not fair that they're all in here. " Luz said. " They just want to be themselves, why does everyone think that being a weirdo is so bad? "
" Sadly, that's just how some of us are. " Evan answered. " When your different, that always makes you a target. " The door knob comes flying off landing in front of them. King had succeeded and was giggling like a mad man opening the door and ran inside.
" Come on, before he hurts himself. " Eda said as they followed in.
" Ow! "
" To late. " Evan commented with an amused smirk. They had now entered a large room, and in the middle was a large pillar of light. King struggled to get in, trying to ram inside but was sent back flying much to his annoyance.
" We, have a human remember? " Eda said putting a hand on the canine's shoulder.
" Oh, yeah. " He remembered why Luz was there.
" While were at it, Luz be on the lookout for a medallion to. " Eda spoke up.
" A medallion? " Luz wasn't expecting there to be another item for her to recover but figuring it'd be important she just went with the flow. " What am I looking for? "
" A silver coin with a wolf's face. " Evan answered and she nodded understanding what she was going to look for.
Taking a deep breath Luz approached the column. With one hand stuck out forward, her hand which phased right through as did the rest of her being. Inside of the pillar were many piles of different stuff that most likely belonged to the many prisoners who were detained.
While taking a few steps she looked around for her objectives. Soon enough she stepped on something. Removing her foot, she knelt down and picked up a string which was attached to what was defiantly described by Evan. It was a silver medallion that indeed had the face of a wolf baring it's fangs. " This must be what they were looking for. Okay, one down. Now where's kings crown? " Shielding her eyes she browsed through the area and noticing something sticking out on top one the piles.
spotted something on top of the one of the piles in front of her. " Wait a second. " She leaned making sure her eyes weren't deceiving her. " Is that a... "
She emerged out of the pillar holding the staff and a paper burger king crown much to King's delight.
" My crown! " The small canine like demon happily jumped up and down and received his possession from Luz setting down slowly for a dramatic effect. " Yes. Yes! I can feel my powers returning! You there. Nightmare critter! " He points to a small stuffed bunny. " I shall call you Francois, and you shall be a minion of my army of darkness. Ha-ha! "
" That crown doesn't give him any powers. Does it? " Luz asked.
" Uh, no. " Eda answered greatly angering the girl. She crossed her arms glaring at her and Evan and the witch in return gave off a sad expression. " Oh, look at us, Luz. The three of us don't have much in this world, we only each other. So if that dumb crown is important to him...
" Then it's important to us... " Evan chimed in.
" Yeah...And besdies, us wierdos have to stick together, you know? " Eda winked at the girl who understood where she was coming from. However she came to quickly realize something. Digging through her pockets, she pulled out the medallion she found inside the column.
" But what about this medallion? " Evan gasped at when she said that and rushed over to her and gently took it from her hand. Gazing at it intensely he holds it up to his chest sighing in content.
" It was a gift from his dad. He gave it to him when he was real little. Wrath took it and Kings crown. It means the world to him. " Eda whispered explaining what it was. When she did, Luz felt good inside, even though she could've died for a piece of paper, she did recover something of emotional value.
" And we defiantly owe you one. Now let's get out of here before the warden finds us and loses his head. " Eda said not realizing there was threatening presence behind her belonging to the one she was just talking about.
" To late. " With his hand morphed into a scythe and swift motion Wrath decapitated Eda's head. It was sent flying over to Luz who screamed as she caught it. Despite this, somehow Eda was still alive.
" Ow! " The head cried out gaining an annoyed expression. " Oh, I hate it when that happens. "
Luz screamed again before calming down. " Eda! Are you okay? "
" Yeah, this just happens when you get older. " The which answered.
" Does it? " Luz asked in a creeped out tone.
" To humans no. But to folk here, yes. " Evan clarified
" Finally... " There attention was brought back to Warden Wrath who morphed his hand back to normal. " I have you both cornered, Eda the Owl Lady and Devil Eye. " Passing over King he grabs the crown.
" My guards could never get either of you. " Wrath said walking up to them ignoring King who tried to take back his crown and Eda's body was crawling around trying to find it's head. " But I knew if I took something of importance, you'd come running. " He crushes the crown right in front of the demon.
" No! " King screamed and stepped back getting on his knees crying away. " My power! "
" What do you want with Us? " Eda questioned. " We never broke any of your stupid laws, in front of you. "
" Owl Lady, I want you... " Wrath paused getting on one knee and brought out something they didn't expect. " To go out with me. " A bouquet of flows...
Eda blinked in confusion. " Wha? "
Luz deadpanned. " What? "
" Are you serious? " Evan asked in annoyance.
" Go boss! " One the guards cheered giving Wrath thumbs up for support.
He returned the gesture before turning back to Eda. " You've always eluded our capture. You've always been the one who got away. I found that alluring. "
" Luz, is it just me or are we hating everything he's saying right now? " Evan questioned.
" Nope, the feelings mutual. " She answered.
" You runts stay out of this! " Wrath threw the flowers aside over his shoulder and turned his arm into a bunch of tentacles which ensnared the two teens who didn't have enough time to react. In the process, Eda's head was dropped to the floor. " So how about it Owl Lady? " Wrath asked lifting up Eda's head by gripping her hair. " The most powerful witch on the boiling isles and the feared Warden Wrath. We'd be the strongest power couple ever! I mean, your husband been gone for like what, five years now? I heard he ran out on you... "
" Shut up asshole! " Evan spat now trying to break free. " You don't know a damn thing! "
" Quiet you! " Wrath snarled tightening his grip on the kids and back to Eda. " I mean, It's-It's not like you can say no right now. I mean I'm not bothered by the fact your a mother at all. We can work things out somehow, right? "
Eda looked over to her son in concern seeing him and Luz struggling to break free while King was in the guards grasp. Ultimately she gave a sigh of defeat. " All right, Warden. You win. I'd just like to say something first. " Wrath leaned forward. " Come closer. " He did it a bit more. " No. Just come a little bit closer. " He got right up to Eda's face. " Just...Yeah, that's good. " Taking a deep breath she stuck out her tongue blowing out the biggest and loudest raspberry she could make right in his face.
This caused him to drop Evan and Luz all while Eda was laughing watching Wrath wipe off his face. " Impudent wench! Don't you know how many germs are in your mouth? Ugh! " Wrath complained.
" Get over it! " Eda snapped back. " You had your guards stalk me, you cut off my head and then you threatened to hurt my son. I am not going out with you! " She looked away with a sly smile. " Besides, compared to my husband, he's got more game then you'll ever have... "
" If you don't accept, then I have no choice but to des- "
" Hands off my mother! " Evan yelled making a circle of light materialize with a motion of his finger. From the circle came a bolt of lightning shooting out towards Wrath sending him crashing into a wall knocking him out.
Eda chuckled pridefully seeing her son show off his magic. " Nice. " She looked over to two guards that were towering over her. Then, her body grabbed their hoods and shoved them over their heads obscuring their vision.
" Okay were going now! " Luz cried out grabbing Eda's staff and her head while Evan grabbed his mothers body who had a hold of King. They quickly got onto the witch's staff with Luz in front, Evan right behind her, holding his mothers head, while King and Eda's body was in the back. The owl talisman spreaded out it's wings hooting away.
" Espectio...flying? Magicus...escapicus! " Luz tried getting it to fly but it didn't.
Eda looked over and noticed Wrath was regaining consciousness. " Gun it, magic stick! " The staff sped off just as the warden got back onto his feet.
" Owl Lady...I won't let you and your son get away again! " Wrath yelled transforming his arms into masses of tentacles that were used to carry him and pursue his enemies.
Looking back they saw Wrath was right on their tail and they found themselves back in the cellblock area. While going through, they noticed they were coming up to three familiar cells.
" Evan! Lend, me a hand! " Luz requested raising her hand up as did Evan who put his right behind hers. Passing right by, the two of them pushed up the levers releasing three prisoners in particular. Before long they burst through the doors that slammed into two guards who were on watch and nose dived down.
Warden Wrath emerged as well flipping over going down as well. With his foes in sight, he lashed out his one of his tentacle arms hitting the back of the staff knocking them causing a crash landing.
" Oh my bones... " King groaned.
" You and me both... " Evan groaned as well getting back up while Eda put her head back on.
" Evan, " She looked to her son and dug into her hair pulling out the interdimensional door key. " Get Luz back to the human world. " Reluctantly Evan nodded and took the key from her.
" What about you guys? " Luz asked worryingly watching Eda and King rush forward to fight.
" If you think this guys bad, you should've seen her last boyfriend. " King told Luz as he went over to Eda who was dodging Wrath's blades
" Not my boyfriend! " Eda swiped King out of the way just in the nick of time avoiding a set of blades that were plunged into the ground. She then looked to her son with a serious expression. " Evan go now! "
" But-But- " Luz didn't get a chance to speak and soon she and Evan flew high up into the air. From above, they were able to watch some of the fighting that transpired. Wrath removed his mask to reveal what he really looked like, a creature with large fangs and two small eyes. From his jaw, he unleashed a firey breath attack.
Eda was quick to counter it, forming a ring of light that absorbed the flames. She then stepped aside and made another ring and from the ring came the wardens attack which sent him plummeting into a wall.
" Evan, we have to go back! " Luz pleaded.
" No! It's dangerous! " Evan replied. " You have to get back home. "
" I might want to go home, but not like this! " Luz argued as they watched Wrath get back up. Morphing his hands into scythes charging at Eda, they saw the three prisoners from before peeking out. " Evan, wait! Look! "
" Huh? " Evan was confused as well and made the staff fly back down to where the hole was at.
" Why are you guys just standing there? This is your chance to escape! " Luz pointed out.
" The warden will catch us. He always does. " The eyeball creature said sadly.
" We belong here... " Fanfic girl felt the same way.
" Self-doubt is a pwison you can never escape fwom. " The head felt the same way and had a black eye.
" Oh yeah? So what. " Evan said bluntly. " You have a choice to live your life the way you want. There's nothing wrong with that. "
" He's right. " Luz backed him up. " So, you have a different way of doing things, a different way of seeing things. That might make you weird, but it also makes you awesome. Don't you see? "
" Why are you helping us? " Fanfic girl asked as Luz pulled over her hood.
" Because us wierdos have to stick together. " She got onto Eda's staff. " And nobody should be punished for who they are. " They listened to Luz's words and cheered. " Now let's get 'em! " She lead the charge.
Back with Eda she was thrown to the ground. Despite her skills, Wrath proved more then too much for her to handle. King was thrown at her, and she safely caught him. " No more running away Owl Lady... " Wrath said walking up to them raising up his scythe arms. " Once I've captured you, your spawn will face the same fate! "
" You want me!? " Evan yelled out charging towards him with the prisoners he and Luz made friends with. " Well here I am! " Wrath looked at the young warlock and snarled. Unleashing another breath attack, only for Evan to make another circle appear making a large amount of water intercept his attack. Once that happened he and his fellow misfits tackled Wrath with Luz right behind them flying on Eda's staff much to the witch's shock. " Woo-hoo! "
" I eat my own eyes! " Eyeball creature yelled out as they continued pushing him back.
" I see the world as a Twiangle! " The head said tripping Wrath over with Fanfic girl on top of him. " And I practice the ancient art of fanfiction! " She cried out as they all got on top of him and tied up his tentacles into a knot. They flipped him over.
" You brat! " Wrath snarled out seeing Luz land back down. " Who do you think you are? "
" Do not underestimate me Warden Wrath! For I am Luz, the human, Warrior of Peace. " Luz yelled out dramatically as the wing blew through her hair. " Now eat this sucker! " She pulled out a large amount of fireworks from her bag, threw it up into the air and jumped swinging Eda's send the fireworks flying right into Warden Wrath's open jaw.
Because of the leftover flames in his mouth. Fireworks soon began to light up the sky flying around randomly. As for the warden himself he was running away while the group cheered on in victory. As this happened, Evan looked over to Luz with a light blush on his cheeks and whispered " Damn... " He had to admit, what she did was pretty cool, and that defiantly earned his respect. Eda walked over to the two teens with a smile.
" That was actually one of her better break ups. " King said crawling onto Evan's shoulders.
" Not a break up. " Eda said. " Anyways, let's bounce before more monsters fall in love with me. " They all got onto the staff and slowly made their way up to the sky with the fireworks continuing to go off as they left.
" You know, I bet dad would've broken the wardens jaw if he was there wouldn't he? " Evan asked looking over to his mom who chuckled lightly.
" Oh yeah, he would've... "
The group had now returned back to the owl house with Evan sighing in content.
" I am glad that's over... " He exclaimed happily entering the house. " I'm never taking this house for granted again... "
" Me too. " His mother agreed setting down her staff against the couch and looked over to Luz. " Well, a deals a deal. Let's get you home. " With a snap of her fingers the interdimensional door key floated out of Luz's bag and back into it's owners hand. Pressing the eye, the brief case hovered over and folded itself up into the same door Luz had entered through earlier that day.
She stared at the door for a moment and turned back to her newest friends. King looked down in sadness, most likely because of what happened to his crown. Digging into her bag Luz approached the small demon. " Before I go, I know its not the same, but...a king shouldn't be without his crown. " She knelt down and pulled off a small crown of a female figurine.
King took it and placed it on his head. " This shall suffice. " King nodded in approval. " You there plant! You are now under my command! " He said marching over to it.
Luz looked over to Evan with a smile. " Also, Evan, thanks for helping me out today. "
" No thank you. " Evan returned the smile. " Now I know what I can do with fireworks, in more ways then one. " He said making them both chuckle a bit before he sighed sadly. " Even though, your going back, at least we had fun while it lasted right? " He held out for a fist bump.
" Right. " Luz didn't leave him hanging.
" Oh and don't forget this. " Eda said passing back her Azura book that came along with her camp brochure. Sadly glancing down at it, she knew that the sort of adventures people like always dreamed about had to end. She then glanced down at her novel, pausing and noticed a mirror on the wall behind the door. With a small gasp, she raised it up and lowered it down. She, Eda, King and Evan were all just like in the books cover, the very same way.
" What's the matter? " Evan asked in confusion noticing that she had stopped and smiled at her reflection and turned around towards the trio.
" Okay, I know you got your head cut off, and we started some kind of prison riot. "
" And beated a cruel villain. " Evan added.
" Yeah that too. But, to be honest this was the most fun I've ever had. " Eda stared at her with wide eyes as she continued to listen. " I don't fit in at home. You don't fit in here. If I stay we could not fit in together. " Taking the brochure into her hand she crumbled it and threw it into the fireplace. " I am not going back to summer camp. "
" What's Summer Camp? " Eda questioned in confusion. " What are we talking about here? "
" Then what do you want to do? " Evan questioned.
" I want to stay and become a witch. " Luz answered looking at his mother. " Like you and Azura. " She raised up the book.
" What? All right, that's crazy. " Eda lowered the book down. " Humans can't become witches. "
" Maybe that's because they haven't tried. " Luz said with a wink. " If you teach me to become a witch, I'll do anything you want. "
" Let her stay! " King said eagerly pulling on Eda's dress. " She can make us snacks. " He whispered and then the witch looked over to her son to hear his opinion.
" Honestly, I think she makes a good point. " Evan said. " Plus, since you claim yourself to be 'The most Powerful Witch on the Boiling Isles' it shouldn't be any problem at all should it? I mean, since when don't you like a challenge? "
Eda chuckled lightly being challenged and leaned over to pick up King. " Well, I could always use an extra hand keeping this goofball out of the cupboards. " She gained a serious look. " All right. I'll teach you how to be a witch. But, you have to work for me before you learn any spells. Deal? " She held out her but instead of shaking, Luz gave her and King a bone crushing hug much to her confusion while the little canine was getting crushed. She opened an eye and held out an arm motioning her hand for him to join much his surprise.
Evan then gave a blank look as if he was talking to someone shrugging his shoulders. " Eh, why not? " He joined in and got a real fuzzy feeling. " Huh, you know this ain't half bad. "
After sealing the deal for Luz to be under Eda's tutelage, she also began her stay at the Owl House. Evan lead her to where she'd be staying. " Well this is your room. " He opens the door that was filled with random different objects. " Technically though, it's more like storage to be honest. "
Luz looked around and smiled. " This'll be fine. "
" Okay, if you say so. " Evan turns around and leaves letting Luz switch into her pj's and rolled out a sleeping bag that came with a pillow. She heard someone clearing their throat, it was Evan holding a wrapped up blanket.
" Here. " He tossed it to her and she caught. " It can get cold sometimes... " He said sheepishly rubbing the back of his head. " So you never know. "
" Thank you. "
" Don't mention it.. . " Evan replied back quickly turning around to leave hiding a light blush. " Well, Good night. "
" Night Evan. " With another row of warmth added and a change of clothes she landed down before pulling out a small framed photo showing Luz with her mother. Setting it down, her phone buzzed and she got a text from her: How's summer camp?
Reading the message, made Luz become worried, since she didn't know how to tell her mother the truth of where she really was. Her line of thought was broken when she heard someone else clear their throat, it was King holding his new stuffed bunny. " You're sleep cocoon looks fluffy. " He said shyly.
She patted on the sleeping bag giving him permission to sleep on it. He walked to the end, setting down his bunny and did a little dog circle before curling up to the bunny.
With a smile, Luz smiled and answered her mothers text. " I think I'm gonna like it here. " After giving her answer she drifted off to sleep.
At the same time Evan was up in his room. He'd only just switched into his pajama's not to long ago. With a sigh he walked over to his desk and placed the medallion on a small wooden pedestal.
The young warlock gazes at a small picture showing a younger Eda and Evan as an infant with King in front of the Owl House and a man who looked just like him only his hair was black and he didn't have an eyepatch. Staring at the man he made a very deep exhale. " Night pops. "
With that said he went to bed and unknowingly the eye of the Owl House blinked.
