It was a cold rainy afternoon in Gotham City where Bruce Wayne Gotham's billionaire prince and Barbara Gordon the police commissioner's daughter and his date were preparing to have a quiet dinner date at the Ocelot, a high-end seafood restaurant located on the coast overlooking Amusement Mile. Inside the restaurant, both of them were sitting down at their table located past a set of stairs leading to an upper section of the restaurant where anyone could get a panoramic view of the entire restaurant and the window overlooking the oppressive Atlantic sea.
As the thunder boomed and rain poured onto the city the two of them were at their table each of them looking at the menu Barbara had her eyes darting up and two down the gold and brown colored menu unsure of what even to order off from it. Bruce in contrast set down the menu as quickly as he got it taking less than a minute to methodically look over the menu before laying down it on the table in hindsight she wished that she was been paying more attention when she and Bruce were discussing diner plans back at the Batcave after all this was their first date. Sensing that she had a minute or less before a waiter came to take their orders Barbara picked the sixth thing that was on the menu and hoped that she wouldn't get a case of food poisoning later on.
Approaching the table was one of the restaurant's waiters, a young man in a black vest holding in his right hand a pen and a small white notepad. Good afternoon you two it is the ocelot's pleasure to have you two dining here. What will you and the fine lady be ordering "asked the waiter as he held his pen in his hand?
"I'll have the Sea Scallops and Angel Hair Pasta," Bruce said to the waiter "Very good sir what about you miss," the waiter asked him to turn to the woman in the yellow and black dress.
"Gordon, and I'll have the Chtapodi Ati Schara," Barbara said trying to conceal the uncertainty in her voice. Clicking his pen the waiter proceeded to scribble their orders in his notepad before he flipped to the next page "Excellent choice I'll see to you are served shortly now if you'll excuse me " the waiter said as strolled over to another table where a group of businessmen from were having a business dinner of sorts.
While the two waited for the waiter to deliver their order to the restaurant kitchen and hopefully soon enough to their table the two engaged in small talk. They talk about Barbara's work with the Gotham Library and she hopes by the chief librarian of the Gotham Central Library for the next couple of years Bruce meets with Lucius Fox to discuss a joint mining venture with a company called the Clover Corporation as they talk the conversation between the Bruce and Barbara drifts towards talking about their "work-life".
"How is your father doing Barbara? I heard the mayor is honoring this weekend with a major awards ceremony at city hall. I – - Bruce hasn't seen him in a while." Bruce said as the lights in the restaurant started to slightly flicker causing Bruce and Barbara to shift to superhero and superheroine identities before being assured by the restaurant's waiter that probably the storm and they nor anyone in the restaurant had a reason to worry which they hoped for was true in sense of that wouldn't have to end their first date early.
"Bruce Wayne is that you" a male voice shouted across the room it was Gilbert McCaughan the thirty-three-year-old of the GPC the Gotham Petroleum Company shuffling his way past his friends he walked over to Bruce and Barbara "Great to see Bruce you-oh where are my manners Gilbert McCaughan CEO of GPC and you are.." Gilbert McCaughan said waiting for an answer the redhead "Barbara Gordon "the police commissioner's daughter answered.
"Whatever It is can't wait for in the middle of a date…" Bruce said Gilbert is looking for investors for a series of oil rigs off the coast of Gotham," Bruce said looking over his shoulders "Correct me if wrong but isn't that the Vice President of AmTrek sitting right next to you".
"Good eye Bruce. Come on take a seat I'll introduce you." Gilbert said to Bruce as wrap his arm around his shoulder" AmTrek is the same company that been alleged to be supplying Intergang with weapons - - at least that what my dad has been told me over the phone last week. How you in good conscience be willing to do business with them." Barbara asked Gilbert.
"Your old man is overstating what occurred in Metropolis. Besides, Gotham Petroleum Company considers not only necessary but trustworthy partners for our latest venture speaking of panthers, Barbara isn't Bruce a little old you? Gilbert said to Barbara and a lesser extent Bruce.
Before either of the two could respond a middle-aged blonde woman in a purple dress ran past them joining the crowd of other diners in the restaurant who were massing in front of the restaurant window. One by one the restaurant guest and its staff walked and sprinted over to the restaurant window to get a look at what was happening out on the sea.
"So I got to help them," the waiters said.
Sprinting down the stairs and pushing the others aside, the two of them to a better view Barbara and Bruce were able to look out the restaurant's rectangular glass window and saw along with the other restaurant patrons what could be considered by most to be a modern act of privacy.
From the restaurant window, Bruce and Barbara along with the rest of the restaurant patrons and wait staff saw the sinking wreckage of a tanker ship in a cloud of smoke and a raging fire that from their perspective could be seen even the dark storm clouds. Circling the wreckage were five boats firing bursts of gunfire at the sinking vessel; it was the pirate-based version of shooting fishing in a barrel.
"I can stand to look at this I've got to go," Bruce said as walked away from the restaurant once out of view he reached into his black suit jacket pocket and pulled out his phone which was programmed to link to the bat computer back at the Batcave. Batman to Bat-Computer direct the Bat boat to the following coordinates."
"So for much of a quiet day "Barbara mused as both of them ran towards the water".
