Eyes looked down at the grey stone before him. The last time he had been here it was because his mother had died. Kanone had been with him, walking in the rain beside him as he walked up to the grave. Now he was alone, the spring rain warm on his face, even though his heart felt like ice. Bending over he placed the white flowers under Kanone's name. He turned to leave, alone yet again, but he noticed another flower that he hadn't seen next to his. The purple iris lay limp and faded beside the vibrant white gardenias.
A tear slid down his cheek. Kanone would never see him cry, Eyes had never allowed himself to cry before. Turning to go his eyes met a pair of brown ones. He quickly brushed away his tears in surprise. Ayumu held a single purple iris in his hand, identical to the faded one next to the bright new gardenias. Following Eye's gaze Ayumu saw the other flowers. Without saying anything he replaced the iris, taking the old one as he walked away.
"Eyes, you are too kind, that is why you should cry…so that you don't lose what you have treasured."
Placing a hand on Ayumu's shoulder Eyes took the faded iris from him, tears again filling his eyes as he did so. He pulled Ayumu close to him, and for the second time that day was surprised by his body's actions. Feeling his lips touch Ayumu's for the first time sent a shiver through him. Eyes could feel the tears flowing down his cheeks, and he let them, not wanting to lose anything else, anyone else.
When he finally pulled away from Ayumu his eyes were red and puffy from crying, and his cheeks were red with embarrassment at what he had just done. Ayumu stood silently staring at him for a moment before he too blushed and looked away. The rain still hadn't stopped when Eyes set down the faded iris with the other flowers.
"I cried for you Kanone, only it was too late." Without looking at Ayumu or the grave again Eyes walked alone, through the rain back home.
