Of course things couldn't always be sunshine, rainbows, and good sex. Sometimes arguments would happen, such as today. Of course what had sparked the argument was jealousy on the part of Kazutora, he'd managed to hold his temper together right up until they walked in the door of the apartment. Rei though had noticed his agitation, although she had no idea why he was agitated. She'd learned to read his moods rather well over time, his shoulders were tense and he wasn't nearly as physically affectionate as he normally was. "Hey what's up with you? You seem…irritated?" She asked, placing her hand on the back on his arm, the duo making their way to the bedroom. Kazutora stopped short, grumbling something Rei didn't quite catch. "What?" She asked and when he spun around and met her gaze she stepped back a bit, oh he was furious his sandy colored eyes burned through her. "Yeah I'm fucking irritated! That customer was all over you and you entertained it! What the fuck!?" He yelled and Rei was struck entirely dumb, her brain trying diligently to figure out what he was talking about. It took a moment but it clicked, the customer she'd been helping pick food for his new puppy, he'd been rather close to her and even a bit flirty. She'd noticed Kazutora was a little less than pleased when he'd been ringing him up but she'd thought nothing of it at the time. "I was not entertaining it, I was doing my job! Tora, are you seriously mad about this right now?" Reaching out to rub his arm again and he pulled back from her, Rei felt a small pang of sadness he never moved away from her touch. It hurt to see him do so and it spoke volumes to how angry he was about this. "Don't fucking Tora me, that was a hell of a lot more than just you doing your job." His tone cut through her, Rei found herself getting angry too. In her mind he was attacking her for no reason. "I didn't do anything! I was polite and friendly with a customer! You're getting bent out of shape for no reason! I love you but I'm gonna go take a walk. I think we need some space until you can calm down." Applying some of what she'd learned in therapy to attempt to diffuse the current situation. Somehow though it only made it worse, as she tried to step away from him and Kazutoras hands hit the wall on either side of her effectively hemming her in. Kazutora was terrifying when he was angry, jealousy burned in his gaze. "You aren't just going to leave me! Fucking talk to me!" He yelled smacking the wall with one of his hands and Rei flinched at both the yelling and the sudden smack of the wall directly next to her head. This action seemed to bring him to his senses, and she saw a wave of guilt cross his face. Kazutoras hands dropped off the wall next to her and he took a step back. "I-I wasn't-I wouldn't-Rei." Flailing for words, realizing she looked truly scared. Scared of him, like she expected him to hurt her. The haze of anger was gone now, now he found himself feeling guilty, disgusted with his own actions. Rei had basically shrunk in on herself, green eyes regarded him carefully, as if she expected him to lash back out at any second. He couldn't find the words, he couldn't explain, he'd just been so mad. Seeing her smiling at the guy who was looking at her far too much. Had the man not been a customer Kazutora would have done something, said something, but instead he had merely watched with his fury simmering. "I'm sorry, I would never-" He couldn't even get the words out, his throat felt tight. In a split second Rei had moved and wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling him into a hug. She could read his distress easily, he'd gone from furious to tripping over his words trying to explain himself in no time flat. "I'm sorry if I made you feel like I was being overly friendly with that guy. I wasn't trying to. I love you." She could hear his heart beating erratically and his arms slowly wrapped around her and squeezed her tightly against him. Kazutora could barely hear her, just held her as tight as possible. He could feel that he was on the verge of a panic attack, the fact that she was holding him barely helped to curb it.
Honestly the fact that she was holding onto him so tight only made him feel more guilty, only made his mind swirl with more emotions. She loved him, he knew that, she'd waited ten years for him, but his more irrational side having seen that just got so painfully jealous. Worried that maybe she'd realize she deserved better, more than he had to give, someone less broken. Rei tried to pull back but he held her firmly, so instead she continued to stand there. Gently rubbing circles into his back. "Hey, I love you. You're ok, maybe we should go lay down." She coaxed gently it took a second for his arms to relax their grip on her, she took his hand and led him into the room. He wouldn't even look at her, he couldn't, scared if he did that same fearful look might be in her eyes. "Lay down." She directed as he did as she asked, laying at the foot of the bed putting his face down into the blankets that smelled just like her. Rei sighed, she knew exactly what was happening. It was rare but there had been times before when Kazutora would merely break down. Usually it was in the early hours of the morning, or the late hours of the night. Untriggered by any one particular thing but rather a lot of them, Rei understood. He had a lot of trauma. Baggage that he was trying hard to carry but sometimes the weight of it simply crushed him. It was her job to help pick him back up again.
So she crawled into the bed next to him, lightly pressing herself against him and wrapping an arm around him. She didn't speak for a while, merely laid next to him giving him a bit of time to process whatever was going on in his head. "I didn't mean to." His voice came, muffled from the blankets his face was buried in. "I know Tora." She coaxed, afterall she did know. He'd never hurt her, sometimes his emotions merely got the better of him. Blind panic got the better of him, he'd gotten a lot better over the years. But Rei knew that the fear of abandonment was still there no matter how much better he was on the average given day. "I would never hurt you." Voice still muffled but it almost sounded like he was about to cry, which ripped painfully at her heart. "I know you wouldn't." All she could do was reassure him, there was nothing she could say that would truly help. She merely had to hope her presence and understanding was enough. "I love you." She spoke as gently as possible and he turned to look at her, the look on his face was something akin to anguish. The amber eyes she so adored filled with tears. "I don't know why." His voice sounded so sad, so broken, defeated. She pulled him closer to her, he moved with a slight bit of reluctance to lay his head on her chest. "Hmm well you make me stupidly happy, you take really good care of me, you're smart, funny, you love me even when I feel unlovable, you remember the smallest details about stories I tell you, things I like. I've also watched you come a long way from when we were kids. You've been through a lot of shit Tora and I'm really proud of the person you are right now." She listed all these things as she gently ran her fingers through his hair, just staring up at the ceiling. Every single word was just one of many reasons she loved him. For every one thing said there were five more left unspoken. Silence hung over them for a moment, Kazutora running her words through his mind on a loop. 'I'm proud of you.' he didn't think anyone had ever said that to him before. "I love you so much." He said quietly, Kazutora didn't know how and why she saw all these things in him. But he was glad she did. "I love you too." She said leaning down and kissing his forehead, making his heart squeeze. He didn't know why but looking up at her, eyes soft and a small smile on her lips, made him realize that while he didn't want to rush through the rest of his life with her, he couldn't wait for it. The pair laid like that until they fell asleep, dinner forgotten clothes left unchanged. Neither wanting to part from the other.
Of course jealousy was not nearly so one sided, and Reis reaction was more explosive than Kazutora would have expected. Chifuyu had invited the pair out for a night at the bar, small place, loud music, drinks, and dancing. While normally the two would have turned down the invitation, both being home bodies, Chifuyu had insisted as Kazutora had missed so many things being incarcerated such as his twenty-first birthday. So the pair had gone home after work, changed and Rei had driven them both to the spot. Within the first half hour of sitting at the bar talking and shooting the breeze with Chifuyu a girl approached them, she had to be in her early twenties. Pretty with long brown hair and bright green eyes, she'd immediately taken to hitting on Kazutora. "Hey cutie, what're you drinking?" She'd asked and Kazutora, who had no real experience in flirting asked Chifuyu who had ordered his drink for him what it was. Quickly passing on that it was a long island iced tea, still seeming rather confused as to why this woman would approach him at all. Rei on the other hand was glaring absolute daggers into the female's back, which was turned to her. She cleared her throat slightly before putting on her sweetest voice to ask Kazutora for a sip of his drink. "Actually babe can I try that? Haven't had one before." She said with a small smile as the girl turned to look at her and Kazutora handed her his drink, appearing entirely confused. "I thought you didn't like drinking?" He asked, Chifuyu watched the interaction and Rei could tell he was trying his hardest not to laugh. Rei took a sip and nearly gagged at the taste of alcohol. "Yeah I was hoping maybe your drink would be good but too much booze." She smiled, handing him back the drink. The girl in question who had watched the whole interaction moved a bit too close to Kazutora. Her hand came to rest on his shoulder, Reis' mouth hung open at the sheer audacity. "So think I could get a sip?" She asked with a teasing tone to her voice, and not unlike a child would Kazutora moved his drink to the side. Whether he sensed Reis bloodlust or genuinely didn't know why this girl was asking no one could be sure. "Uh no, sorry, thanks." Sputtered out his words, clearly panicking and not knowing what to say or do. Seeing him clearly stressed Rei wanted to choke the life out of this bimbo. "Aw oh well, see ya later cutie." She gave him a smile and walked away Rei watched her go and decided to keep her eyes on the woman. "What was that about?" Kazutora asked, his head tilted in confusion as Chifuyu finally let out the laugh he'd been holding in. "That girl was hitting on you. Shit man you're lucky you have Rei cuz you'd be a horrible flirt." Chifuyu snickered and Kazutora looked to Rei for confirmation but the woman in question was beginning to move from her seat. "Gonna go use the restroom real quick. Be right back." She placed a kiss on Kazutoras head and quickly sauntered off to the restroom she had seen the brunette bimbo enter seconds prior.
The bathroom was blessedly empty aside from the one shut door so Rei stood in front of it and waited. Didn't take long for her to finished and move to step out but Rei had her hemmed in. "Alright so listen, that guy out there? He's my boyfriend, and I would appreciate it if you'd stop throwing yourself at him. There's plenty of other men here, leave mine alone. You're making him uncomfortable." She said it in as nice a tone as she was capable, she really wanted to knock this chick's lights out. But she also wasn't trying to get into a bar fight either. The brunette let out a small giggle, patting her arm like she was a kid. "Aww sweetie, your man can choose to come home with me if he wants and he probably will. There ain't shit you can do about it." Rei saw red, in an instant she'd punched her just once. But the girl clearly hadn't been expecting it and went flying backwards, her head smacking hard off the toilet bowl. Rei stood there stunned for a moment as she saw her start to bleed and quickly shut the stall door and exited the bathroom.
Making a beeline for Kazutora and Chifuyu she grabbed Kazutoras arm. "Aye we gotta go." She said and the two men looked at her confused. Chifuyu though was the one who spoke. "Go? We haven't even been here for an hour?" He asked and Rei looked at Kazutora pleadingly, hoping he might understand. Nope the man appeared totally lost, and definitely a bit buzzed from his drink. "I can explain later for now just finish your drinks fast." She grabbed her coat throwing it on quickly, before either man could ask another question or even move for their drinks there was a scream. Rei didn't even need to turn to look to know it was the girl from the bathroom. "What did you do?!" Chifuyu asked in a harsh whisper as Rei collected her things and finally turned to see the brunette's face covered in blood from a nasty gash on her forehead. Kazutora was looking from the girl to Rei in stunned silence. "Explain later, go now!" She hissed, grabbing Kazutoras arm who thankfully moved with her as they speedily exited from the bar. They'd moved so quickly Rei didn't realize Kazutora had kept his drink in hand til they were outside in the frosty air. "What did you do?" He asked, no judgment was in his tone, his appearance was of sheer shock as he looked down at her with his sandy colored eyes. "Uh well…kinda punched her? But it was for good reason, and she may have hit her head on the toilet. I swear to God I only hit her once though!" She tried to defend herself as Chifuyu bursted out laughing, the trio had made their way back to their individual cars. "You can not just punch people like Baji Rei, most normal people can't handle that level of force." He said and Rei tried to stammer out a response but couldn't. Meanwhile Kazutora seemed entirely stunned by her response, he knew Rei could fight. Hell she'd grown up with himself and Baji, she'd learned from the best. It struck him that not only had she fought she'd done it for him, because she was jealous. He couldn't help the warm feeling that spread through his chest at the realization. Sure he'd known that he was important to her, it was a fact she'd stated often. But it was as if he was only just now understanding the depths that importance went.
Once Chifuyu had gotten into his car and sped off and they'd gotten into their own car, with Rei driving of course, Kazutora finally spoke. "So…you really punched someone over me?" He queried as she started the vehicle, even in the dark of the car he could clearly see her embarrassment as the engine roared to life. "Yeah, I probably could have handled it better but-" Kazutora grabbed her chin as she moved to look over her shoulder in order to pull out effectively stopping her words. "I love you so much." He stated simply and for a moment confusion crossed her features before a soft smile crept over her lips. "I love you too Tora, and hey now we have a nice bar glass to commemorate this night." She grinned and he couldn't help but grin back as he leaned forward and kissed her. God he loved this woman, he couldn't wait to spend the rest of his days with her. She was far more than he deserved, at least in his own opinion, but he was so happy to have her by his side.
