Uriel – formerly known as Frisk – stretched their arms as they woke up. They looked around the room, recognizing it as their room in Toriel's house.
Oh, right. They had fallen asleep on her chair.
When they looked at the table next to their bed, there was a potted flower lightly snoozing.
"Asriel, wake up," they said quietly, lightly shaking the table.
Asriel yawned, which felt good to him as he woke up. He looked down at his leafy arms, stretching them just to stretch them.
"How did last night go?" Uriel asked.
"Really good," he answered. "Thanks for doing this for me. Even if you fail to turn me back, I will always be grateful for this."
Uriel hopped out of bed, realizing they were still in their daytime clothes. They picked Asriel up and walked to the living room, hoping to get breakfast. Already, the both of them could smell Toriel's cooking. When they entered the living room, they were surprised to see Asgore still here, stretching out his back.
"Dad? What are you still doing here?" Uriel asked.
"Toriel said I could spend the night here on her couch," the king answered. "It was too late to carry you all the way home." He walked over and patted Uriel on the head, though the kid flinched when he did. "How did you two sleep?" he asked them both.
"First good night's sleep I've had in a long time," Asriel said. "Thanks for asking."
"Well, I hope you all are hungry," Toriel said as she entered with a pie.
"What's for breakfast today?" Uriel asked excitedly.
"Snail pie," Toriel answered, causing Uriel to grimace.
"Sounds good," Asgore said, sitting down.
"Wish I could have my share," Asriel said.
"You did eat yesterday, son," Toriel spoke as she set the steaming pastry down.
"Yeah, but it didn't go… down right," Asriel said. "I don't really need to eat as a flower. I did it merely to enjoy the taste."
"Well, perhaps Uriel could have your share for you," Toriel suggested.
"I'll pass," Uriel declined.
"What? You're not grossed out, are you?" Asriel asked.
"I… don't eat snails. Humans don't really eat them," Uriel answered.
"But you're not human, now," Asriel pointed out.
"I'm still part human," Uriel rebutted. "I didn't tell you this yesterday, but this body is part human, part Monster. And my taste buds haven't changed as far as I can tell."
"You eat donuts made from spiders," Asriel said, crossing his arms. "You're not gonna eat a pie made of snails?"
"Let us let them have their preference," Toriel said, ending that potential debate. "Uriel, there is some cereal if you want it."
Uriel placed Asriel on the table before running off to the kitchen. They returned a couple minutes later with a bowl full of cereal and milk.
After breakfast Asgore prepared to leave to attend to his duties as king. As he got ready, Uriel could see the smile that refused to leave his face. Toriel was also happier than Uriel had seen her. The return of their son, even in a flower form, had restored something in them that had previously been lost.
Before Asgore left, Uriel got a text. They opened it up to see what it was. It was a message from Undyne. Her house was finished, finally. To celebrate, she was going to have a movie marathon and Uriel was invited. Uriel checked to see who else received this same text and it was just them, Alphys, Sans and Papyrus.
"What is it, Uriel?" Toriel asked.
"Undyne's house is finished. She wants me to come over to celebrate," Uriel answered.
"And how is she celebrating?" she asked.
"With movies. The rest of my friends will be there, too."
"Well, are you going?" Asgore asked.
"If I can. I'll try to be home before bed," Uriel said.
"Then you may go to this celebration," Asgore granted.
"Thanks, dad!" Uriel hugged him as best they could.
"Oh," Asriel said sadly. "Guess you should go have fun with them."
Uriel caught on to Asriel's mood. They didn't know why but his emotions came through so clear to them. Asriel, though reunited, was suddenly feeling lonely and the elation he was feeling earlier popped just like that. Uriel had an idea to fix that. "Hey, wanna come with me?"
"What?" all three other residents said at once.
"Are you sure that is wise?" Toriel asked.
"I don't think it's a good idea to reveal him to everyone yet," Asgore added.
"I thought you were gonna keep me secret from your friends," Asriel spoke.
"They'll find out about you, eventually," Uriel said. "Why not get it out of the way? And it will be just those four who'll learn. We'll keep you secret from everyone else."
"I am not sure about this," Toriel said.
Asgore thought it over. It did make sense to him. And he could see that Asriel would get lonely. "So long as it is just them I will allow it."
"Are you sure, Asgore?" Toriel asked.
"I trust Undyne to keep it secret and I know Alphys will if requested. Papyrus… he may not, but if his brother tells him too, he will."
Toriel sighed. "Alright. Just… be safe, my children."
Uriel picked Asriel up. "We will," they said.
Asgore lead them to Waterfall at which point he continued on to New Home, while Uriel went to the area Undyne's house was in. Uriel had reassured Asgore they would be home by eight.
"He's just letting you go wherever you want," Asriel noticed. "He never gave me that kind of freedom."
"Well, maybe he's just trying something different," Uriel suggested. "He knows I can take care of myself. I'm beloved by the entire Underground and I've been trained to defend myself. Though that's still a work in progress."
"That must be nice," Asriel noted. "Having that kind of freedom. I couldn't go anywhere without my mom holding my hand."
Uriel walked up to Undyne's house. "Seems we're the first here," they noticed. "So, how do you want to reveal yourself?"
"Uh…" Asriel stuttered. Uriel could sense he was nervous again, though worse this time.
"You okay?" they asked.
"No," Asriel said bluntly. "I just… Maybe you could just introduce me as your flower friend? Not as Asriel?"
Uriel gave a blank stare.
"It's not even that hard. Look." In an instant, Asriel was back to his 'Flowey' face. "I can just be a sentient flower that you picked up," he said with Flowey's voice.
Uriel seemed to think about it for a moment, then shook Asriel's pot until his face reverted. "Asriel, what are you doing?" Uriel asked in a bored tone. "You're not gonna hide from them. I don't want you to."
"But… wouldn't it be better that way?" Asriel asked. "I think it would be better if…"
"If you lied to everyone to make them happy?" Uriel asked in a monotone voice. "Like Alphys did?"
Asriel realized where Uriel was going to go with this. He would be making the same mistakes as Alphys by lying.
"Asriel, I don't want to lie to my friends any more than I have to and lying about you on a regular basis is asking for too much."
Asriel sighed. "Okay. So, could you tell them? I… I don't want to explain myself."
"Of course." Uriel knocked on the door. In the brief moment before she answered, Uriel noted that Undyne's new house was identical to her old one. The jaw-like doors opened, and Undyne brought Uriel into a headlock before giving them a noogie.
"Great to see you came! You're even the first to arrive!" Undyne said happily.
Uriel held on to Asriel and managed to escape the headlock, rubbing the crown of their head as they did. "Well, I didn't want to miss out on the celebration."
"Well, since you got here first you can pick the first movie we'll watch," Undyne said. "Also, who's the weed?" She pointed at the flower Uriel was carrying.
Uriel held him up. "This is Asriel," they introduced.
Undyne raised an eyebrow at that. "So you named a flower after Asgore's dead son?"
"This is Asgore's son," Uriel said emphatically. "Say 'hi'."
Asriel rubbed his leafy arms before speaking. "Um, hi, Undyne," he said nervously.
Undyne's single eye went wider. She bent forward to get a better look and she could see a vague resemblance to her mentor. "What the…" she muttered.
"I'll explain after the others get here, cause it's a long explanation," Uriel said. They walked past Undyne, stepping into the living room. Everything was identical as before, though newer as Undyne's old furniture burned down. "So I still get to pick the first movie?" Uriel asked.
As Undyne closed the door, she answered. "Yeah. Alphys sent them all over."
Uriel looked at the selection of DVD cases, though most were anime, much to their not surprise. They skipped over those, looking at the rest. There was sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, thriller, action. Uriel recognized most of them as old movies that came out years ago. Uriel had never really seen any movies before, watching cartoons instead, so they only had the accounts of others to judge how good some of these were.
Uriel went down to the horror section as they recalled many kids praising those.
"So, got your first pick, yet?" Undyne asked.
"You've got so many to choose from," Uriel said. "It'll take me a while."
"I take it from the section you're looking over you like to be scared," Undyne noted. "Some of those are pretty good. Scares the crap out of Alphys, so we don't watch those very often."
As Uriel kept scanning the titles another knock came from the door. Undyne answered and Alphys, Sans and Papyrus were there, the first and third dressed in more casual clothes than normal.
"Glad you could make it!" Undyne welcomed.
"WOWIE, UNDYNE. YOUR HOUSE LOOKS SPLENDID!" Papyrus said.
"looks the same as always to me," Sans said.
"A-are we late?" Alphys asked.
"I never gave a time," Undyne answered. "Though you aren't the first to get here." Undyne stepped to the side to allow them in and they saw Uriel still scanning the movies.
"GREETINGS, URIEL!" Papyrus cheered. "YOU'RE LOOKING QUITE SNAZZY IN THOSE CLOTHES."
"Thanks, Papyrus," Uriel said as they stood up. They were still dressed in the outfit Asgore got them, minus the shoulder cape.
"and you looked really cool during asgore's announcement the other day," Sans added.
"H-Hey, did you change your eye color?" Alphys asked, adjusting her glasses.
"What do you mean?" Uriel asked.
"They were red before," Alphys explained. "Now they seem to be… pink?"
Everyone tilted their head as they looked straight at Uriel's eyes. Sure enough, Uriel's eyes were a different color.
"Huh, didn't notice that before," Undyne said. "They're a rather… vibrant pink."
Asriel took a closer look. He hadn't noticed it before as he had only seen Uriel from a distance until yesterday.
"WELL, I THINK URIEL'S EYES LOOK GREAT!" Papyrus admitted.
"huh, your eyes can change color," Sans spoke. "guess there's more to you than meets the eye."
"SANS!"
"Huh, I wonder how that happened," Alphys mused. "I might have to take a look at them tomorrow."
"Well, tomorrow," Uriel conceded. "Today, I wanna watch some movies."
"SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA!" Papyrus agreed. "THOUGH, I MUST ASK SOMETHING BEFORE WE BEGIN. WHERE'D YOU GET THAT FLOWER?"
Uriel looked down at Asriel, who was looking at each Monster in turn. Uriel wished they knew what he was thinking when he saw them and what Asriel might have done to them in the past as Flowey to reassure him.
"My newest roommate and friend," Uriel simplified. "This is Asriel." They held him up for the others to see.
"WHO?" Papyrus asked. He was the only one to react with words.
Undyne was silent, preferring to wait. Sans was glaring. Alphys' jaw dropped.
"Howdy," Asriel waved. Alphys' jaw dropped further. Uriel could tell she recognized his voice.
"H-h-h-h-h-h-how?" Alphys stuttered.
"There's a lot to explain and I'd like to get it out of the way first before we do anything else," Uriel explained.
"welp, guess we'd better sit down, cause this sounds like it's going to take a while," Sans said, locating the nearest chair and plopping down into it.
Uriel spent several minutes telling their friends about Asriel's resurrection and how Uriel managed to help them with help from Sans. When Uriel revealed that it was Alphys' experiments with Determination that did it, the Royal Scientist curled up in shame, though Undyne patted her on the back to try and help. Asriel also told her that he forgave her, as she couldn't have known what her experiments would do.
"Well, I think that's everything," Uriel finished. They had left out Asriel's power to Reset, as Uriel had never told them apart from Sans that they had the same ability. They had also managed to come up with a believable explanation for how they learned the flower was really Asriel, which they felt was impressive as they had only five minutes to think of it.
"So, you're stuck as that flower?" Undyne asked Asriel, who nodded. "Gee. That's rough, buddy."
"It was scary, waking up and being unable to feel my arms or legs," Asriel admitted. "But, at least I got one of those back for now." He flexed his arms to emphasize it.
"I don't plan on letting him stay this way forever," Uriel announced. "Alphys, are you still working on a way to generate Soul power?"
"U-um… y-yes," the lizard said meekly.
"Well, I've learned that with the power of seven human Souls, we can change Asriel back," Uriel explained. "If you can create that much power, we can fix him."
"B-but… it can't be artificially generated," Alphys reminded. "I've tried, and… there's just no way to do it."
"Well, if you can find a way, we could use it to save Asriel," Uriel said.
"W-well, does it have to be seven?" Alphys questioned. "I-I mean… you're going for a great amount of power, right? I-if you're looking to change his form, then wouldn't a Monster and a Human Soul together do the job as well?"
Asriel perked up when he heard that. "It might," he mused. "When I had absorbed Chara's Soul, I was able to alter my form, almost at will. But… I'd need more than just my Soul to maintain it."
"So, Alphys just needs to find a way to create a human Soul, you absorb it, and then you can change back to your real form," Uriel decided.
"I-I guess I'll try," Alphys agreed.
"WELL, NOW THAT THAT'S DECIDED, WHAT ARE WE WATCHING FIRST?" Papyrus asked.
"I've already picked one out." Uriel walked over to the movie's and picked one out. "We'll watch Creature From the Black Lagoon." They showed the cover to their friends. "I've heard it was good."
"Hey, I've seen this one," Undyne said. "A creature from a swamp that terrorizes a group of scientists."
"um… you sure that's what you want to watch, kid?" Sans questioned.
"Yeah, I'm sure!" Uriel assured.
A while later, the movie was in and playing. Uriel was munching away from a bowl of popcorn. Sans was also managing to eat it even though he never opened his mouth.
"Hey, Asriel?" Uriel asked the flower. "You sure you don't want me to turn you around so you can see the movie?"
"I'm good," he answered.
Uriel turned back to the screen, popping another kernel into their mouth. Undyne was watching, somewhat bored as she had seen it before. Alphys was curled up, biting on the collar of her shirt, while Papyrus was 'watching' through the sofa.
"you know, bro, it's in black and white," Sans said lazily to Papyrus.
"I'M FINE WATCHING IT FROM HERE, THANK YOU," the taller skeleton said.
Sans went back to the popcorn he and Uriel were sharing. But, when he reached for some more, his fingers scrapped an empty bowl. "whoops. guess we ate it too fast," Sans said.
"I'll go get some more," Uriel decided as they grabbed the bowl and stood up.
"I'll go with you!" Asriel said rapidly. Uriel picked him up and walked out of Undyne's bedroom.
"Hurry back, the best part is coming up!" Undyne said.
"That depends on your definition of 'best part'," Alphys muttered under her breath.
Uriel found a bag of popcorn in Undyne's cabinets and put it in the microwave. They set Asriel down next to it to free up their hands. "Hope we get back before the next bit," Uriel said. "I'm eager to see what that is."
"How can you be unafraid?" Asriel questioned. "Aren't you even a little scared?"
"Not really," Uriel answered. "Besides, you guys are scarier than an old black-and-white movie."
"We are?" Asriel questioned.
"Undyne chasing me through Waterfall? That's scary. The Amalgamates in the True Lab? That's scary. Flowey with six human Souls? That's scary."
Asriel was silent for a long moment. "I guess that makes sense."
"The Underground can be a pretty scary place," Uriel admitted. "Though not as scary as what I had to deal with on the Surface."
"What did you have to deal with?" Asriel asked, hoping to get an answer.
Uriel just looked away, remaining silent.
Asriel sighed, realizing he wasn't getting an answer. "Well, whatever it was, it's over now. And you're safe down here."
"Yeah," Uriel admitted. "Even if I never see the sun again, I can deal with it knowing I have such great friends to fall back on now." They glanced at the microwave when they heard a pop. "Still got a minute before it's ready. Hope we haven't missed anything cool."
"You have a weird definition of 'cool'," Asriel jokingly said.
"Come on, it's just a stupid old timey movie," Uriel said. "What could possibly be scary about it?" The microwave dinged, indicating the popcorn was ready. Uriel grabbed the bowl with their right hand, and picked up Asriel with their left. They returned to Undyne's bedroom where they finished watching the movie.
"Well, that was pretty sweet," Undyne said, stretching after they turned it off.
"The effects were pretty decent," Uriel said.
"YES, ESPECIALLY THE PART WHERE THE MONSTER FIRST CAME OUT," Papyrus said, even though he hadn't seen it.
"What did you think, Asriel?" Uriel asked the flower.
"Um, maybe next time we could not watch a horror movie?" Asriel suggested.
"you weren't scared, were you?" Sans cheekily asked.
"Ugh, are we really going to be watching movies all day?" Asriel asked, avoiding answering that question.
"You know, come to think of it, it's probably not a good idea to be sitting all day," Uriel said.
"How about some training, then?" Undyne said. "Let's see how far you've come, punk!"
"Great idea! Outside?"
"That's where my training yard is," Undyne said. "The dummy's not present, though. So you'll have to fight against me!"
Everyone left the house to Undyne's front yard. Uriel handed Asriel to Alphys, who sat down on the ground to watch, next to the skeleton brothers.
"So… Uriel trains with Undyne?" Asriel asked.
"INDEED. SINCE THEY HAVE PROVEN TO BE VERY GOOD WITH MAGIC, THE KING FELT IT WAS BEST THEY LEARN HOW TO USE IT. AND WHO BETTER TO TEACH THAN THE CAPTAIN OF THE ROYAL GUARD!"
"Didn't your dad ever teach you how to fight?" Alphys asked.
"No," Asriel admitted. "He barely let me out of the house."
The battle between Uriel and Undyne was underway. The first thing Undyne did was conjure a spear, which she swung in a wide arc, producing a green slash that struck Uriel, turning their Soul green and throwing a spear into their hands.
"En guarde!" Undyne shouted. "I'll start off slow. Block this!" She hurled spears at Uriel from four different directions. And as their Soul was green, they could do nothing but pivot on their feet, spinning to block them. "Not bad. Now let's pick up the pace!" The spears started coming twice as fast and Undyne threw in a few gold spears that flipped to confuse them. Uriel was able to block them all, but then Undyne threw two at once and Uriel couldn't deflect them both with the one spear. So they conjured their shield, which had turned green due to Undyne's magic.
"Not bad," Undyne said when Uriel block the simultaneous spears. "But if you got that shield then you don't need my spear." With a snap of her fingers, the spear in Uriel's hands vanished. She resumed her attack, using the normal and gold spears but mixing them up as randomly as she could. A few struck Uriel, but because she wasn't trying to hurt them the damage they did was minimal.
After a while, she did her double-spear attack and as Uriel had only the one shield, they wouldn't be able to block. But an idea came to them mid attack. Undyne could create as many spears as she wanted, so what was stopping them from doing the same? They tried it, and conjured a second shield on their other arm, and became capable of blocking both spears.
"Nice job!" Undyne congratulated. "Two shields at once and both seem pretty sturdy."
"Thanks!"
"Don't get cocky, though," Undyne warned. "I've been going easy on you since we met. Time to take it up a notch." Now she was summoning and throwing spears at fast speeds. She gave Uriel plenty of lead to see them coming, but it was still incredibly difficult, and with every successful fifth block she ramped up the speed.
"Alright. That's enough on defense for now," she decided. Uriel was grateful, breathing a sigh of relief as the spears stopped coming. "Now it's time to see what you can do for offence!" She swung her spear and Uriel felt their Soul return to normal, their shields pink once more. "Go ahead. Hit me with everything you got!"
Uriel decided to start off with using their left shield. They flung it at her, sailing it through the air like a Frisbee. She deflected it with her spear but Uriel closed the gap and already had their sword in hand, which was also pink. Pink sword and blue spear clashed. As they fought, Undyne kept giving Uriel tips how to handle the blade, as well as their stance and their technique. She also commended them keeping the other shield up, using it to block her attacks.
"Alright, you're good with your sword and shield. But I know Asgore's taught you some fire magic. So let's see that," Undyne said, jumping back. "Use your fire to fight!"
Uriel dispelled their sword, keeping the shield for defense. They conjured a single ball of pink fire between their paws and sent it at Undyne who deflected it with her spear again.
"Huh," Alphys said. "All of Uriel's magic is coming out pink. It was red before."
"their eyes also used to be red," Sans observed. "think there's a connection?"
"Maybe," Alphys mused. "Hopefully I'll learn something during my examination of them in a few days."
Uriel started using more balls of fire, creating pattern with their attacks, which many could see were similar to Asgore's.
"Yeah, nice. But I think you could do better," Undyne said. "And you know the enemy won't always try to fight one-on-one. Hey, Papyrus, want to help?"
"YOU BET!" Papyrus said, standing up. "THOUGH, I'M NOT PROPERLY DRESSED," he said, looking down at his clothing. "ONE MOMENT." He spun around at dizzying speeds, and when he stopped, was in his battle body. Somehow. "NOW I'M PROPERLY PREPARED FOR BATTLE!"
"Two opponents? That's not fair," Uriel said. "You could at least give me a partner."
"Hey, that's even better! Fighting as a team!" Undyne agreed.
"INDEED. SANS, WHY DON'T YOU HELP THEM?"
"nah. sounds like too much work and i got a nap break in two minutes," he denied.
"SANS!"
"Hey, Alphys, wanna get in here?" Undyne asked.
"Um, fighting's not really my thing," she declined.
"Guess it you're not getting a partner," Undyne said.
"Well, there is one more who could help me," Uriel reminded, looking at Asriel.
The flower's eyes widened when he realized Uriel was talking about him. "Um, I don't think I really…"
"Come on, Asriel. Any help would be appreciated," Uriel asked.
"Don't worry, kid. I'll go easy on you," Undyne assured.
"Well, okay, I guess," Asriel said. He pulled himself out of the pot, putting his roots into the ground. Then he burrowed to Uriel's side.
"Alright, let's go!" Undyne shouted, spear at the ready. She charged Uriel, who raised their shield to deflect her strike. They had no time to catch a breath, as Papyrus came up, two long bones in hand. Uriel battled him with their sword.
Asriel was hesitant to fight. He had been battling with the intent to kill for so long, he wasn't sure if he could manage fighting without that. He was also weary of slipping back into Flowey mid-battle. While he had a Soul again and could feel, he feared that the time he spent without it had changed him too much. Because of that, he didn't try to help Uriel at first, content to simply watch, afraid that if he used any magic he'd kill someone.
However, Uriel was starting to get overwhelmed by fighting two opponents at once and needed his help. "Asriel, restrain Undyne!" they shouted.
Asriel snapped to attention. Those were orders he could work with. He whipped out a couple vines and snagged Undyne's wrists, dragging her to the ground. She summoned a couple spears and cut the vines, but before she could even stand up Asriel grabbed her again with more vines.
While Undyne tried to free herself from Asriel, Uriel continued sparing with Papyrus. Bones clashed with sword and shield. Though the skeleton had the advantage of height, Uriel was very light on their feet, and Papyrus was unable to penetrate their shield.
"NYEH! YOU'RE VERY GOOD, HUMAN. BUT YOU'RE STILL NO MATCH FOR THE GREAT PAPYRUS!"
"And you're no match for my shield," Uriel shot back. "With Undyne occupied by my partner you can't beat me."
"NYEH HEH HEH! PERHAPS, BUT LET'S SEE HOW THE PRINCE HANDLES MY PREVIOUSLY FABLED, NOW LEGENDARY, BLUE ATTACK!" Papyrus turned to Asriel, and extended a hand, summoning his blue magic.
Asriel had overheard that but he wasn't too concerned. Papyrus had tried that trick on him before whenever he fought the skeleton, but it never worked. After all, that attack affected the Soul, and he didn't have-
Suddenly, Asriel felt a lot heavier and his flower head smack the ground. He was caught so off guard, that he didn't see the small bone until it bonked him on the nose. "Ow!"
"NYEH HEH HEH! IMPRESSED? NOW YOU'RE BLUE!"
It took Asriel an embarrassingly long time to realize why his attack worked on him now. Oh, right. You have a Soul now, Asriel. You can be affected by things like that. With his lapse in concentration, Undyne was able to free herself from the vines and turned to Uriel.
"Papyrus, handle the flower," she ordered.
"SURE THING!" The skeleton faced the flower as Undyne engaged Uriel, sword and shield clashing against spears. "LET'S SEE WHAT YOU'VE GOT!" Papyrus summoned barrages of bones and sent them at Asriel. He was able to get his head off the ground and started dodging.
Asriel wasn't able to leap like Uriel could as he was rooted to the ground, but he could still burrow, and did that to avoid Papyrus' attacks. At one point, he almost shot a vine at the skeleton, but caught himself before it could leave the ground. No! He wasn't going to kill. Uriel would probably reload to erase it, but it still felt wrong to even try. Trying to get out of the 'kill or be killed' mentality was hard, but if he refrained, he was certain he could do it.
Uriel could see Asriel was starting to struggle with Papyrus. Though the skeleton would stop short of killing, the thing the flower was struggling with the most was refraining from using violence. Uriel didn't know how much Flowey had done in all his Resets, but it was more than what Asriel could bear, and the old mentality was struggling to take hold.
Uriel pushed Undyne back and decided to try and help Asriel out. They sent a few pink fireballs at Papyrus, catching the skeleton off guard. Uriel hadn't been aiming at him, but close enough that he had to step back to avoid the burns.
"Not bad, kid, helping your teammate out," Undyne said. "But don't forget about your own opponent!" She charged, spear at the ready, but Uriel easily deflected it by angling their shield so the spear scrapped off to the side. They charged up their magic again and intended to fire another fireball at Undyne to make more distance. However, it came out as a pink star instead. Though the shape was different, it did push her back.
"Whoa. How'd I do that?" Uriel asked.
"You mean that star wasn't intentional?" Undyne questioned.
"It was supposed to be a fireball," Uriel said.
"Well, then let's see you do it again!" Undyne shouted, charging again, more spears at the ready.
Uriel stretched their hand, trying to summon another star, but this time, a bolt of pink lightning struck Undyne, causing her to collapse as her muscles spasmed. "What the…" Uriel murmured. Their magic was coming out in so many different ways. Fire, then stars, now lightning? What was going…
Then, it clicked. A Monster's magic is usually determined by their thoughts in the moment, and all Uriel could think about all day was Asriel, who used the exact same attacks in their battle as the God of Hyperdeath. They were mimicking Asriel's attacks!
Uriel turned to Papyrus, who was still sending barrages of bones at Asriel. They decided to try something else and dispelled their sword, picturing the 'Chaos Buster' that Asriel used. It appeared in their left hand, though smaller than the one used in that godly battle. They fired a single stream of star-shaped projectiles from it.
Papyrus saw it coming a second too late. He was sent back by the attack several feet, falling on his back. "OWIE," he said.
"You okay?" Uriel asked.
"NYEH. NEVER FEAR! I AM UNHARMED, THOUGH IT DID HURT."
"Yeah," Undyne groaned as she got up. "Good thing we're just sparring, otherwise I think those attacks would have done some real damage." She was using a spear to support herself, little spasms still wracking her body. "I think we'd better quit for now."
"Sorry," Uriel apologized, helping Undyne support herself.
"You're fine," she assured. "I should've realized that even without any intent to hurt us you can still pack a punch."
"BUT YOUR ATTACKS WERE INCREDIBLE!" Papyrus added.
"Thanks."
Alphys came up, Asriel's pot still in hand. She set it down so the flower could get back in. "Hey, Uriel," she said, getting their attention. "What was going on with your attacks? There were so many."
"I'm not entirely sure," Uriel answered.
"Well, come over to my lab tomorrow. I want to examine you to see what's going on with you," Alphys recommended.
"Sure thing," Frisk agreed. "And I'll bring Asriel with me."
"NOW THEN, SHALL WE RESUME WATCHING MOVIES?" Papyrus asked.
"Yeah, but no horror this time," Asriel said.
End of Chapter 10
