Thought I'd make a short about our new Calamity Girls trio (though down the line it kinda becomes more of Ashley and Julia); plus this wouldn't leave my head a week before I started writing. Might reference this in an actual episode someday; hope you enjoy!
It was a bright and sunny morning in Royal Woods, Michigan. In front of Royal Woods Middle School, students were conversing and laughing with each other, and some were even watching videos together. Ashley, Vexy, and Julia, a trio with a special friendship, were walking to school together talking about something new Julia had found out from her uncle, who had just started working at an animation company called Flying Bark Productions. Well, Julia was bouncing of excitement as she walked around them, Vexy was just half-listening as she looked at her the whole way, and Ashley was reading her new Kingdom of Fantasy book.
"So I video chatted with my uncle last week, and he said he got accepted into the company," Julia said, trying her hardest to keep calm. "He also said there's a new project that they're working on, and he couldn't wait to tell me about it, even though it's supposed to be…" She leaned towards the others and said ominously while she wiggled her fingers, "Super secret. I'm the only one who knows about it so far; they should be releasing an official sneak peek next year."
"So what's it about exactly?" Ashley asked, not looking up from her book.
"It's a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series! I've never been too much into the franchise—even though you know how crazy I am about ninjas right now—"
"Yeah; so crazy you have a huge crush on that Randy guy," Vexy said, looking up at her from her phone with a wide smirk; Ashley couldn't hold in a snicker. Even though neither of those two was too fond of that show—despite Julia's excited rambling about it everyday, she was especially fond of talking about the main character—they both found it pretty funny that Julia had a crush on a fictional character.
Julia blushed ten shades of red, then she quickly shook her head and whipped out her phone, shoving it into her friends' face. "Anyway, I was never that much into TMNT until he showed me this!"
She showed them a bit of artwork someone had made. It was a poster that showed the four teenage turts everyone knew and loved, but something was obviously very different. They looked like completely different species instead of looking the same, with their only difference in appearance in the past being their bandana colours. Here there were so many differences it was almost too easy to tell them apart.
"Haud up," Vexy frowned, pushing past Ashley to get a better view. "A've seen a bawherr bit o' th' lest series as a bairn tae ken thay shuid forordinar keek alike. Whit's wi' th' freish looks? (I've seen a little bit of the last series as a kid to know they should usually look alike. What's with the new looks?)"
Julia shrugged as they walked into the building. "All he said was they wanted to try something different. A kind of reboot, if you will."
"Okay, seriously? if ah kin be sae critical aboot this, th' turtles barely resemble ilk ither fur yin thing; ilk yin is a different species, lik' whit? something ah aye did wi' th' lest series wis huv a go tae jalouse wha wis wha, 'n' noo fur me this juist steals oot th' fin 'n' ruins it. (Okay, seriously? If I may be so critical about this, the Turtles barely resemble each other for one thing; each one is a different species, like what? Something I always did with the last series was try to guess who was who, and now for me this just takes out the fun and ruins it." (Quick A/N: This wasn't an actual piece of criticism; I just picked this up from a review site I honestly forgot the name of now)
As Vexy walked away in a slight huff, Julia's face dropped and she made a small and barely noticeable pout.
"Don't sweat it Jules," Ashley smiled reassuringly, putting her book into her backpack. "You know how picky Vex can be sometimes. I suppose this is just one of those things she's found to be picky about."
"I suppose so," Julia sighed. Ashley gently patted her back sympathetically as they went to their lockers. "Though she wasn't the only one who didn't like the designs that much."
"Really?" Ashley frowned, putting some stuff into her locker as Julia attended to hers.
"Yep. Some art has already been officially posted online and most didn't really like them at all. Some did enjoy them too, me being one of them. I just hope they'll enjoy the actual series instead of complain about it so much."
"I'm sure they will." Ashley shut her locker door and put a hand on Julia's shoulder as she shut her locker. "Hey, give me the scoop when that series comes out, mmkay? It actually looks kinda cool, I'd love to take a look."
Julia nodded eagerly, glad Ashley was showing some interest in her own interests again. "Absolutely! Good to know someone appreciates some fine art."
"I'm sure Vex will warm up soon." Ashley said as she and Julia began walking down the halls to their respective classes. "Again, she's just picky. Plus she saw the last series; you know old fans can be critical about new stuff."
"I sure hope so." Julia crossed her arms and slightly pouted again. Ashley patted her back, giving her a little smirk. Julia looked up and raised an eyebrow at her in question.
"What's that look for?" she frowned.
Ashley's smirk grew wider. "Soooooo~" She said in a slight teasing tone. "What's up with you and that Randy guy?"
"You mean Randy Honeycutt, Liam's cousin? Well, he's pretty good with farming stuff, he actually gave me some advice yesterday, something about how to milk a cow; he's a nice guy, really knew how to help in the kitchen during cooking class—"
"No! I mean that Randy—what's his last name again? Cutterhorn? Crummersauce? Cu-nerving?" Ashley actually knew that last name really well; she was just teasing since she thought Julia looked kinda funny when she was blushing. Plus she and Vexy both loved to tease Julia about that crush of hers.
"Cunningham! It's Cunningham!" Julia yelled in frustration, her cheeks flushed red at the mere mention of his last name. "Y-your name guesses weren't even close."
"Oh yeaaahh!" Ashley said in a bit of a fake tone of realization. Julia seemed to be lost in her thoughts, so she didn't seem to notice. Ashley saw this, and with that wide smirk she decided to continue, swallowing the little bit of vomit in her mouth. "You know, I've been seeing a little bit of that show, and no wonder you find that Randy guy so charming~"
If Ashley focused hard enough she could see the small hearts in Julia's eyes. She snickered and carried on, almost covering her mouth and instead putting her arm around Julia's shoulders. "He's got the moves, the skills, the ninja realness—the total package really!"
"Plus he's just kinda cute and I love the way he as the Ninja moves when he's attacking~" Julia twirled on the balls of her heels, nearly tripping over them. Ashley had to grab her by the arm before she tripped and hurt herself again, right in front of the latter's classroom.
Suddenly the bell rang, snapping Julia out of her sappy state, and Ashley sighed.
"See you again at lunch?" she asked, punching Julia on the arm. Julia rubbed her arm in slight pain and groaned, but nodded with a smile. They waved to each other as they walked into their respective classes, with Julia sighing in happiness again at the thought of Cunningham's face.
And now, the usual author's note:
Vexy's disliking of the turtles' designs is a reference to how people used to react negatively to the new designs. I heard rumours about it on YouTube (a lot of them) so I decided to reference it here. Also shows a little bit of Vexy's short temper.
Speaking of personality, sorry if Ashley's a little bit OOC over how she's teasing Julia about her crush on Randy. The thing is; while Ashley isn't too keen on the idea, I am (I admit it) a total sucker for romance. I will admit that I've read way too many x Readers on Quotev to count now, so yeah.
And it may or may not be obvious to many people, but the other show Julia is crazy about is my new favorite show Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. Her crush on him was from a lot of commentors on YouTube saying they all used to crush on him when they were watching it back in the day, it was from there that I got the reference for that. I thought it would be kinda cute if Julia felt the same way, since Randy does have that same cocky, witty, and heroic charm almost every Ben Schwartz character I know has that kinda gotmestartedwithLeoanyway.
I'm also surprised over the length of this short. Normally the shorts I write only take a short minute to read, and this one takes a few minutes. Guess I might be getting back into the zone after all.
And with all that out of the way, all I can say about my fics right now is that I have been getting a lot of new fanfic ideas that I've managed to put; and as my friend Justin Blystone/Baldwin 17 quoted to me once:
"Inspiration comes to the best of us." (or something like that) Chef Gusteau (or someone like him).
Plus, thanks again to you guys for giving me the idea to write some flashbacks of Ashley's life on Earth before the overall series began! If you have any ideas for more flashbacks in the future, please do tell! I'll be taking requests, if you could call it like that. Anyway, hope y'all are having a good day, afternoon, or night wherever you are. Stay safe and happy from the Philippines!
