Chapter 13: Mutant Minions
Back in the junkyard, Shredder was growing impatient.
He demanded, "how much longer?"
Baxter answered, much to Shredder's ire, "I told you, I don't know. It takes time- days!"
Shredder ordered, his tone as sharp as his gauntlets, "I want them as soon as possible!"
Terrifying noises kept emanating from several small rooms, where the test subjects were going through…. Changes."
Shredder said, hatred dripping from every word, "the Foot have already failed against my enemies…. I…. Have failed", he walked back over to the cages, "but the next time will be different. The next time will be freak…. Against freak!"
At that moment, a frightening, furry hand reached out of the small barred window of the door Shredder stood in front of!
…..
Meanwhile….
Whenever Raph made up his mind about doing something, he never went halfway; he ALWAYS went the whole nine yards.
So he watched from a nearby alley while a teenage thug was addressing a group of young hopefuls. One of said recruits was Irma.
The tough kid explained, "…. So everybody's got to take a little test. Then, if you're good enough, we let you in the 'organization.' Any questions?"
Nobody dared to speak up. As the young men followed the tough kid off, Irma hung back so she could talk with Raph.
Raph jumped down from the top of the building and whispered, "step one: done."
"I knew this would work", Irma said eagerly.
Raph said, "just remember. We get you in, we find the Foot headquarters, we get out and tell the others, right?"
Irma replied dryly, "gee, maybe I should write this down."
Then, before Raph could answer, she ran after the group.
Raph looked up at the sky and asked dryly, "I'm being punished, aren't I?"
Nevertheless, they moved forward with the plan….
….
The recruiter took the teens to a warehouse, where he put them through tests of their martial arts skills. Most of them weren't very good. The recruiter excused them one by one. With Irma, it was different. She repelled the Foot attack easily with a series of deft ninja moves. Within seconds, three Foot lay on the mat, and Irma was still standing.
The recruiter was definitely impressed and said, "'Irma', was it? You seem to be the only one worthy of a final test."
Irma gave a nervous smile and said, "g-great! Er, what's the final test?"
The recruiter showed her a mannequin completely covered with tiny bells and said, "you'll have 15 seconds. Remove as many bells as you can. One sound, and you fail."
Irma gulped nervously as she glanced at the nearby window.
"Oh, and one other thing", the recruiter added as he pulled a ninja dust bomb from his pocket and dropped it on the floor and exploded, "we work in concealment; 15 seconds. Go", he said as his face vanished from view.
But no-one was able to see a certain figure jump into the room and grab all of the items from the mannequin, hand them to Irma, and jump back out of the window!
When the 15 seconds were done and the smoke had settled, the recruiter found Irma, her arms cradling all the bells and the dummy, completely stripped.
Irma asked smugly, "is this enough?"
The recruiter just nodded, seemingly stripped of all ability to speak.
Raph smirked as he watched from the window.
….
Meanwhile….
The turtles and Mona were tidying up their new home with the help of a certain mutant Alligator.
Leatherhead was lifting a big box of comics as Donnie's phone started to ring.
Donnie asked after answering, "this is Donatello, who shall I say is calling?"
April said on the other end, "hey Donnie! You guys doing alright?"
Donnie replied, "yeah. We're just getting settled in, is all."
Mona was using a broom head tied to her tail to sweep the floor as Mikey was hanging up some posters.
Donnie said, "personally, I'm just amazed at how quickly we found someplace to live. But I'm not complaining, that's for sure."
April giggled and asked, "how are the others settling in?"
Donnie replied, "pretty well, actually."
Mikey said, "ask her if she's seen Raph!"
Donnie said, "Mikey wanted me to ask if you've seen Raph?"
April said, a little worried, "not since he and Irma headed out earlier…."
Donnie murmured, "... well, that at least explains what happened…."
Mona said, "I hope he doesn't get into trouble."
Donnie asked dryly, "and while you're hoping for the impossible, why don't you ask for the moon too?"
Mikey laughed like a little kid at that joke.
Donnie asked April, "anything on your end? You dig up anything else about TCRI?"
April said, "not much. The Kraang are good at keeping secrets. The most we could find is a report talking about some strange test subjects that escaped them."
Donnie inquired, "what kind of test subjects?"
April said, "we think they might be people like Mona and Leatherhead. Y'know, people captured and mutated like them?"
"Ahhh….", Donnie nodded, "in that case, they could be friends or foes."
April said, "we'll begin a search after we deal with the Foot."
Donnie replied, "fine."
Leo said, "now we just gotta wait for Raph to send word to us…."
….
Meanwhile, at the Foot Clan base….
Raphael was still trailing Irma and the recruiter invisibly when they got to Foot headquarters. Raph could hardly believe what a dump it was…. Literally. It seemed to be an endless junkyard, piled high with scrap metal. The only building was a dingy little shack.
The recruiter pointed to the shack and told Irma, "get yourself a training dogi and meet me in the yard."
Irma nodded as the recruiter walked off.
She glanced around before hiding behind a large pile of junk and whispered, "Raph? Raph!"
Raph hissed as he climbed out, "okay, okay, I'm right here! What is it?"
Irma said, "we've finally found the foot clan base! Now we can get the others to help us save Karai!"
Raph said, "okay, first chance we get, we're out of here."
He didn't want to risk one second more than necessary with The Foot. Besides, they had the information they needed. The next trick would be to make a swift and safe exit.
Then something in the shack caught Raphael's eye. He could have sworn it was zhao and jagged ninja armor. He'd only seen ninja armor like that one time before. He thought he'd seen it for the last time, too!
Irma asked, "Raph? You okay?"
Raph said, "er…. Yeah…. I just…. I think I saw a ghost…."
He ducked behind a pile of debris and approached the shack, sneaking up to one of the windows.
Irma asked, "just what are you looking for, anyway?"
Raph put a finger to his lips and whispered, "quiet. Do you want to get us-", it was too late Raph turned around and found himself facing some Foot Ninjas, "... caught?"
Irma whispered, "oh grape nuts…."
Raph hissed to her, "when I strike, start running!"
Irma nodded, "…. Right."
Raph turned to the Foot Ninjas and said, "so…. Who wants the first ass whooping?"
All at once, the Foot Ninjas attacked Raph, swarming like a bunch of angry locusts.
Raph yelled, "Irma! Run!"
The bespectacled girl turned and made a run for it as Raph was getting attacked.
Raph managed to knock two ninjas to the ground.
But that was among some of the few blows he managed to deal out before he was overcome by more and more ninjas who had him outnumbered.
They all held him in place!
Glaring up, Raph saw the recruiter from before sneering down at him.
He remarked, "hello, freak. The boss is going to be pleased to see YOU."
Raph commented, "oh, I'm shaking in my shell. You really think Hun scares me?"
The recruiter smirked and said, "who said I was talking about him?"
He moved aside to reveal a very familiar face….
Raph's eyes widened in horror.
He exclaimed, "…. No freakin' way!"
Standing there was the Shredder, in all of his glory!
Raph whispered, "Shredder!"
….
Meanwhile….
Irma had raced back to April's house as fast as she could!
Things had suddenly escalated from bad to worse, and she had to do something in order to help.
She started knocking frantically, yelling, "April! Casey! Anyone! It's me, Irma!"
Zach yelled as he opened the door, "Irma! IRMA! Enough with the knocking, huh? People are gonna start asking questions!"
Irma ran in, exclaiming, "they took Raph!"
April asked, "who took Raph?!"
….
Some time later….
We see Leo, Donnie, Mikey, Zach and April sneaking into the junkyard….
Mikey remarked, "just like Irma said it was."
Donnie glanced around, "the perimeter's quiet."
"Yeah, a little too quiet", Leo said skeptically.
They crept down the pile and into the junkyard. They were in.
"Well, that was easy", April said.
"Yeah, a little TOO easy", Leo added.
The sneaked their way around and saw Raph tied to a pole with his mouth duct taped.
Zach whispered, "there's Raph."
Mikey jokes, "yeah, a little too Raph."
Leo said, "knock it off. Keep your eyes peeled. I don't like this."
Leo didn't have to say it twice. They crept forward soundlessly.
They were about twenty yards from Raph, and still creeping forward when Donnie spoke, "you know, given the layout of this junkyard and the proximity of certain structures, if they were going to spring a trap, they'd probably spring it right about-"
Floodlights flashed. Something snapped, and suddenly, all five rescuers were whisked upward in a large net. They were trapped and suspended from a crane.
"... here", Donnie finished.
Mikey said sarcastically, "nice call, Donnie. Pitifully late…. But nice."
Zach then saw something that made his eyes widen as he exclaimed, "uh, guys!"
Everyone looked and their jaws dropped in shock.
Standing there was the Shredder, in all his evil glory!
The turtles and humans muttered, "no way…."
Miley yelled, "the shred-dude!"
Shredder said, "I've been waiting for you. And I have a little surprise for you."
He gave a signal and the ground in front of Raph rose, revealing razor-sharp ninja spikes. Their crane swung around; they were headed right for the spikes!
April yelled, "what're those for?!"
Mikey exclaimed, "does the word turtle kabob mean anything to you?!"
The Shredder cackled in maniacal glee!
But what none of the ninjas saw as a familiar furry face pulling back a bow and arrow!
The arrow whizzed from his weapon, slashing through the rope that held the Turtles' net and it stuck in the stake above Raph's head.
Splinter said, utterly pleased with himself, "Cowabunga!"
April, Zach, Leo, Mikey, and Donnie fell to the ground. They weren't hurt at all. They got themselves ready to fight.
Leo snarked, "hey, Shredder; you forgot that we carry insurance!"
Mikey said, "mutual of Splinter, dude!"
Shredder was in no mood for jokes.
He yelled, "GET THEM!"
The ninjas ran at the turtles and their two human companions, who began to fight them off one by one!
Mikey yelled, "hey, don't we carry gator insurance as well?"
Suddenly smashing through a nearby wall of junk was Leatherhead, with Mona right behind him!
She yelled, "with a lizard clause in there!"
The group easily fought off ninja after ninja!
Donnie quickly ran to Raph and pulled the duct tape from his mouth!
He screamed in pain then said, "thanks Donnie. Next time; WHY DON'T YA JUST RIP MY LIPS OFF!"
Leatherhead cut Raph's bindings and said, "fight now, yell later!"
Raph nodded as the group kept fighting!
No doubt about it, they were working with Turtle Power tenfold!
The Turtles and their companions were about ready to exchange high fives/threes and head for the sewers when they heard Shredder say something very odd.
He yelled, "UNLEASH MY MUTANT MINIONS!"
Suddenly, the doors to the main base slammed open!
Out stalked five mutant creatures!
One looked like a bi-pedal wolf with razor sharp teeth and claws.
The next was like a very large snapping turtle.
The third was a bi-pedal warthog dressed in red with a purple mohawk and shades.
The fourth was a bi-pedal rhino dressed in rough fatigues and an army helmet.
And the fifth was a large koi fish with razor sharp teeth and mechanical legs!
Shredder yelled, "behold! Rahzar! Tokka! Bebop! Rocksteady! And-"
Mikey yelled, "fish face? Robo-Carp?"
The fish yelled, "I'm Xever, you idiot!"
Raph shrugged, "well, you know what they say. The bigger they are-"
He tried to punch Tokka, but was smacked into Donnie and Zach!
Mikey cringed and said, "the more bones they break?"
Bebop snorted, "now DAT sounds like a good idea!"
Shredder ordered, "DESTROY THEM!"
Rocksteady smirked and replied, cracking his knuckles, "with great pleasure, Master Shreddah."
The mutant minions all ran at our heroes!
Leo commented, "okay, guys, these ones might be a bit more durable than us! So…. We MIGHT have a problem."
April exclaimed, "ya think?!"
Leo retorted, "well, if anyone has any ideas, then I'M OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS!"
Rocksteady grabbed Donnie and spun him around before tossing him through the base's window!
He landed right next to Baxter Stockman!
Donnie asked as he got to his feet, "Professor Stockman, I presume?"
The good professor would've gladly responded…. If his mouth wasn't taped shut at the time.
Donnie said, "hold on. This may sting a bit."
Donnie tore the duct tape off, making Baxter screech in pain!
Donnie said, "I've GOTTA work on that!"
Baxter looked at Donnie in shock.
The two were about to respond to one another, when they heard, "Donnie?"
Donnie turned to see who had said that, and froze in shock.
It was Karai…. But she looked much different!
She now had porcelain white skin with scales on it, green slitted eyes, sharp fangs, a snake-like tongue, sharp claws, as well as longer limbs.
Her clothes were torn from where her limbs had stretched out.
Donnie asked, "Karai?! They…. What did they do to you!?"
"They turned me…. Into thissss….", Karai responded with a hiss.
Donnie ran to her cell and quickly unlocked it, saying, "hang on. We're gonna get you and the Professor outta here."
Karai quickly slithered out of the cell as soon as the door was unlocked.
Donnie then began undoing Stockman's bindings as he said, "the others are outside, fighting Shred-head and his mangy mutated minions."
Baxter responded as Donnie untied his bindings, "I gathered from the noise outside."
Karai said, "letsss get outta here!"
The three of them ran outside to see the turtles, Mona, April, Leatherhead and Zach still fighting off the other mutants.
Donnie asked Stockman, "I don't suppose you got a useful mutation?"
Stockman removed his coat to show two tiny fly wings on his back as he said, "fly wings ain't exactly useful when they're this small…."
Mikey yelled as he was being swung around by Rocksteady, "FIGHT NOW, TALK LATER!"
Rocksteady asked, "hey, Bebop, you hungry?"
Bebop punched Raph in the face, sending him flying back as he replied, "sure, I could eat! Why?"
Rocksteady exclaimed, "cuz I got a great recipe for toitle biogas! Learned it from my uncle!"
Mikey yelled, "ew! I'd rather be flung through the air than get eaten by you!"
Rcoksteady smirked evilly.
Mikey yelled, "waitwaitwait- AAAAAAGGHH!"
Mikey got flung through the air, landing behind a couch.
Hun sneered, "this is going to be great. Because I have LOTS of anger to work through…. And I'll do it by beating you little freaks into green puddles!"
Mikey groaned as he crawled forward…. Right on top of a sewer grate!
Mikey looked down and saw it, "huh? No way….", he brushed the dirt away and said, "boy am I glad to see you….", he called out, "guys! Follow the sound of my voice!"
Raph said as he got to his feet, "sure, Mikey! Just as soon as we can shake off our dance partners!"
Mikey groaned and said, "I found a sewer grate!"
Raph said, "then let's book it!"
The group ran as fast as they could to where Mikey was!
Shredder demanded, "stop them!"
Immediately, Tokka, Rahzar, Bebop, Rocksteady and Xever turned towards the fleeing turtles and began their pursuit.
The group reached Mikey and each began jumping down the sewer grate!
Bebop and Rocksteady clamored towards the grate, and tried to go after them.
Bebop called, "I call first dibs!"
Rocksteady protested, as they pushed and shoved each other, "no way, Beeb! I wanna wring the red one's neck!"
Tokka pushed them both aside and growled, "outta my way!"
He tried to jump down the grate, but his legs got stuck.
Rocksteady laughed, "hahahaha. Mister Big Tough Turtle, stuck-in-a-hole!"
Rahzer smacked them upside the head and yelled, "pull him out already, before they get away!"
"Awright, awright, you big jerk", Bebop rolled his eyes as he and Rocksteady each grabbed one of Tokka's arms and pulled.
Tokka screamed in pain!
….
Meanwhile….
The turtles, April, Zach, Stockman, Karai, Mona and Leatherhead stared up at Tokka's frantically kicking legs.
Mikey smirked as he reached up and started tickling Tokka's feet.
Zach quickly pulled him back and yelled, "are you nuts?!"
Mikey responded, "hey, he's stuck. I couldn't resist."
Leo remarked, "it's THAT kind of attitude that'll get you killed someday. Now come on."
Stockman stood as still as a statue as he stared upon the various mutants all around him.
Raph groused, "oh, geez…. Don't tell me he's gonna start screaming."
Stockman said in awe, "walking, talking turtles, lizards and alligators?"
Mona jokes, "yeah, the guy's Ph.D. material all right."
Donnie said, "yeah, our whole story is a long one…."
Stockman blurted, "fifteen years ago, you came in contact with a green colloidal gel down in a sewer that transformed you into your present state."
Leo said, "okay, now it's just getting freaky."
Stockman said, "and I'm guessing the lizard girl was also mutated like your friend Karai was, and that the alligator shares a similar situation to yours?"
Mikey said, "yep. Basically the long and short of it."
Stockman smiled and said, "interesting. Now, shall we head off?"
The others nodded as they began walking down the sewer tunnel.
Leo found himself next to Karai during the walk.
He managed to speak up, "... Karai…. So…. How are you holding up? I mean, after getting mutated."
Karai sighed and said, "I don't know…. He turned me…. Into thissss…. Thisssss…. Thing…. And I have no idea if there'ssss…. A cure…."
Leo promised her, "Karai…. We'll find some way to fix this."
Karai said, "I hope sssso."
Leo and Karai began to hold hands as they walked.
Leo blushed a little while doing so, as they continued on their way….

mmat: not really, no. Mona is already mutated, April is immune to the ooze, (due to an antibody in her blood in this case), and Casey just doesn't seem like the kind to get mutated.
Guest: I'm gonna use Super Shredder from TMNT 2, and I'm gonna use him a lot more.
jurassicdinodrew: indeed, Shredder's minions are here! Toka, Razer, Fish-Face, Bebop and Rocksteady! More mutants will show up, including Alopex, Pigeon Pete, Monkey Brains and Usagi. My plan is for them to be a group of people and animals mutated by the Krang who've been in hiding under New York.
DaV1nc136: glad you're so excited for more of this. Especially my stuff with the Mutants. Karai went through a similar mutation to the one she got in the 2012 show. And Hun's mutation was basically his Turtles Forever mutation mixed with Tokka from TMNT2. But Stockman isn't mutated all the way in this one, since he's not a villain in this story.
