Answering to a prompt from Tumblr: Would you write for your oc Eva ? With Mando? "I didn't put egg in your boots, I swear. It was The Child." 3 thanks so much x
The Eggcident
He jerked awake from sleep as the sound of the child's bubbly giggling carried to his ears accompanied by a soft laugh from the girl. There was a strange clapping too.
He sat up on his bunk bed, head turning towards the sound of his children. Calling Eva and the Child his children still felt strange but right at the same time. From behind his helmet the Mandalorian found his lips curving to smile. The children were sitting on the floor, only a few feet from his bed, and the older was trying to teach the younger some sort of clapping game. It seemed that the reason they were laughing was because his youngest had figured out he could put his own hands between Eva's before she could clap them together.
"That's not how the game words you little mongrel!" Eva laughed, grabbing at his hands to step them from moving.
The child made a happy yell, and then threw himself at Eva. The girl caught him easily and the Mandalorian spied how her hand reached towards the green ears, clearly about to tickle him.
"How long have you two been awake?"
The question made both of them look at him, startled if Eva's hand halting in the air near the little one's ear gave anything away.
Eva let the Child get away from her lap and he made a surprisingly quick way to Mando, latching his little body to his foot, babbling something without proper words.
"Somebody's excited", Din chuckled, picking the little one up from the floor.
He looked up just in time to see Eva avert his eyes away from them, finding instead pulling at a loose thread in the fabric covering her knee more interesting.
The Mandalorian shifted the child on his lap. "Eva", he called, aiming for what he hoped was a gentle tone. The girl raised her head instantly.
The man patted the space next to him, and Eva scampered to close the space between them. He lifted his arm enough for Eva to lean herself to his side. He noted how she looked tired, even more so as she yawned and snuggled closer to him.
"How long have you two been awake?" Mando repeated the question, watching as Eva closed her eyes although she reached out with one hand to let the Child poke at her palm. The little one's giggles filled the air again as Eva closed her fist gently around the Child's hand every time he kept his hand on her palm a bit longer.
"I don't know", Eva mumbled. "The kid woke me up sometime ago and I didn't want to wake you."
The Mandalorian made a humming sound. "You can sleep for a bit now. We're not leaving this rock behind today."
"Okay", Eva mumbled, tiredly lowering herself to Mando's pillow instead of moving to her own bed.
Din opened his mouth, then closed it again with a small shake of his head as he realised she was already asleep.
A look down confirmed that the small one had in fact fallen asleep too. He lowered him between the wall and Eva before standing up.
He had taken his boots off last night and they were exactly where he had left them – next to his bed.
The cracking sound and Mando's no doubt curse words in Mando'a startled both Eva and the kid from their sleep.
A low sound that could only be described as a growl was heard in the room as Din turned his helmet-covered head to face the suddenly very innocent-looking children.
Din lifted his foot which was now covered in raw egg, some of it dripping to the floor in a thin line.
"Whose idea was this?" Din questioned, finding it difficult to keep hints of anger from his voice.
As if one, both children raised a hand to point at the other.
"Eva."
"What?! It wasn't me!" Eva protested. "I didn't put eggs in your boots, I swear! It was him!"
The child began to babble on in a tone which sounded protesting as well.
"Enough!" The Mandalorian said without raising his voice but making both of the children snap their mouths shut anyway.
He had no way of telling which one of them had actually been the culprit. How was he supposed to deal with this sort of situation?
"Clean it up", Din eventually said, pulling his ruined sock from his foot. He would need to wash it. He turned his head to look from Eva to the Child. "Both of you."
"But-"
"No buts. And my word is final, kid."
"Fine, but I want it known that this is so unfair."
"Less talking, more work", Din only said, picked the Child from the bed and placed him on the floor before placing his hand between Eva's shoulders to gently push her to move up from the bed as well.
In the end, the Mandalorian never got the truth about who had put the eggs in his boots. He always did suspect though, that both of them had something to do with it.
