Chapter 30
"To the Chesapeake Ripper." Dr. Chilton raised his wine glass. "Dr. Gideon is going to provide us with the singular opportunity to analyze a pure sociopath. It's so rare to find one in captivity."
Hannibal and Margarita both raised their glasses, but Alana didn't raise her own.
"I see three possibilities: Gideon is the Chesapeake Ripper or he just thinks he is, or he knows he isn't." Alana stated as she looked up at Dr. Chilton.
"He is. He knows he is. So do I. But it will be a challenge to tell what he's holding back or whether he understands more than he'll say."
"Did you discuss the Chesapeake Ripper's crimes with Dr. Gideon before he murdered the night nurse?" Hannibal questioned as he took a sip of his wine looking over at Dr. Chilton.
Dr. Chilton nodded his head. "When I began to suspect who he was. Feeling he was about to be exposed may have spurred him to action."
Margarita's brow raised as she looked at Dr. Chilton. She knew that it took a moron to plant information into another person's head when they were so deranged that they would think that they were someone else. Her stomach churned at the idea knowing that this wasn't a good idea let alone having something else being added onto the whole Chesapeake Ripper thing.
"Is it possible you inadvertently planted the suggestion in Gideon's mind that he was the Ripper?" Alana questioned her brows raising as she looked at Dr. Chilton like he was stupid.
"Not suggesting coercive persuasion?"
"I said inadvertently."
"Psychic driving is unethical."
"But reasonable in certain circumstances." Hannibal pointed out as he slowly ate his meal.
"What circumstances?" Alana questioned as she looked over at Hannibal.
"It may've been useful trying to remind Gideon he's the Chesapeake Ripper if he repressed those memories, but he seems to have come to that awareness all by himself."
Alana and Dr. Chilton simultaneously looked at Hannibal.
"Would you mind if I had another session with Dr. Gideon?" Alana questioned as she looked over at Dr. Chilton.
"Not at all. I'd love your insight. And if he's been unethically manipulated somehow I need to know."
"Dr. Chilton... would you care to assist me with dessert?" Hannibal questioned as he looked up at Dr. Chilton.
Margarita looked over at her husband as she watched him slowly get up to his feet. She knew she just had to sit through dessert and then go upstairs for the night and sleep next to Hannibal. She knew that he was going to cuddle up with her and try to relax as much as the two of them could.
Alana looked over at Margarita. "So I hear your daughter's third birthday is coming up." She said softly offering the blonde haired woman a smile.
Margarita looked over at Alana and slowly nodded her head. "Yes, she's rather excited about her birthday since she gets to celebrate it with Hannibal this year."
"Hannibal must be happy about that to know that you and your daughter are both here with him now."
Margarita cleared her throat shyly. "More than you would ever think." She admitted softly tucking some of her blonde hair behind her ear. "He's so happy to know that she is here and was kind of surprised that her name is Mischa."
Alana nodded her head slowly knowing that Hannibal's sister's name was Mischa and she had died a long time ago.
"I do feel bad though that I kept him away from her… he missed so much of her life…"
Alana looked at Margarita and saw the worried look upon her face. "I am sure you and Hannibal can make it through whatever you are going through."
Margarita nodded her head softly. "I know we can. I just feel terrible that he missed almost all of Mischa's firsts…"
"Well you two could always have another child."
Margarita's cheeks flushed shyly as she looked down knowing that was fairly true that she and Hannibal could have another child and the two of them were planning on having another and they were trying.
HANNIBAL
Margarita came into the bedroom of Jack with her arms crossed to see Will there with Beverly, Brian, and Jimmy.
Brian was taking a photograph of the carpet that had a footprint on it.
Beverly scanned the depression on the bed linens with a UV light.
Jimmy was taking forensic traces off the bedside phone. He diligently dusted for prints on the handset, capturing them with a strip of transparent tape.
Jack and Will looked on with Margarita.
"Getting a lot of usable prints. Probably just you and your wife's." Jimmy said as he worked.
"I can't imagine the Chesapeake Ripper would start leaving prints at a crime scene now." Brian said, shaking his head lightly.
Jimmy placed the newly imprinted tape strips on his handset scanning them into the device. "I can see three distinct beauties." He looked over to Jack. "Yours, your wife's and presumably the Chesapeake Ripper."
"He was in my home. He was in my bedroom. He sat where my wife sleeps. He touched her pillow."
"Did Miriam Lass know where you live?" Will questioned as he looked over at Jack.
"If she wanted to know, she was smart enough to find out."
"Could've told the Chesapeake Ripper before he killed her. Did you know you were sending her after him?"
"I sent her after information."
"Whoever made that phone call thinks you were close to Miriam Lass and feel responsible for her death."
"She was my trainee. I am responsible for her death."
"The Ripper didn't just touch her pillow. He put his head on it. Somebody's been sleeping in your bed." Beverly said as she plucked a long strand of blonde hair from the indentation in the pillow lying on Bella's side of the bed. "And there he is. Or she is. Was Miriam Lass a blonde?"
"Yes."
"She was here." Jimmy said, looking up from his work.
"She's dead."
"I pulled her fingerprints from the VICAP database, Jack. Got a match."
Margarita's brows raised. "I was called in because someone who you think is the Ripper broke into your home and now Miriam Lass's hair and fingerprints are on your phone. Jack we're messing with fire with trying to lure the Chesapeake Ripper out of hiding. I think it is safe to know that Dr. Gideon isn't the Ripper." Margarita said as she crossed her arms.
"His lead is the closest that we have."
"According to Dr. Chilton who quite frankly gave away information when he was interviewing Dr. Gideon. I don't know what you are trying to prove, but it isn't going to end well for anyone." Margarita said, turning on her heels and slowly walked out of Jack's bedroom and towards the stairs to leave. She knew that there was just too much going on and with Hannibal finding out quite a bit from Dr. Chilton the night before it didn't take an idiot to figure out that Dr. Gideon thought he was the Ripper when he clearly wasn't.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is the end of Chapter 30. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best to make the chapter long enough to enjoy, but sometimes writing stories is very hard, including when you have episodes to go off of and adding in a character. Granted lately I've been writing a lot of OG stuff which is a good thing. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews actually help me keep my muse when it comes to writing and honestly I don't really want to lose my muse for writing. I will try to update on Friday keeping to my schedule of what I have out during the week. Until next time.
