Canalave Gym Battles
After waiting for almost half an hour, Byron returns to the gym to have his gym battle with Ed. Soon, Byron was standing on one end of the battle arena and Ed was standing on the other while Edd and Eddy were watching on the bleacher.
"This is an official gym battle between Byron the Gym Leader and Ed the challenger." said the referee. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the battle begin." Byron takes out a pokeball.
"Bronzor, come on out." said Byron, throwing the pokeball and releases his Bronzor. Ed takes a pokeball out of his pocket.
"Come out, Skuntank." said Ed, throwing the pokeball and releasing Skuntank.
"Good move on Ed's part." said Edd. "Because Skuntank is part dark, psychic type attacks are useless."
"Skuntank, Flamethrower." said Ed. Skuntank opens her mouth and releases a stream of fire from it and it hits Bronzor, causing super effective damage to it. Bronzor falls to the ground, but weakly floats back up.
"Bronzor, Hypnosis." said Byron. Bronzor becomes surrounded by a red aura and Skuntank becomes surrounded by it and falls asleep.
"Skuntank, wake up." said Ed.
"Now Bronzor, Gyro Ball." said Byron. Bronzor spins around at a fast speed and spins at Skuntank and rams into her, knocking her across the ground.
"Skuntank, wakey wakey." said Ed. Skuntank was still sleeping.
"Use Heavy Slam, Bronzor." said Byron. Bronzor floats above the sleeping Skuntank and becomes surrounded by a silver aura. It then slams itself onto Skuntank.
"You can do it, Skuntank." said Ed. Skuntank suddenly wakes up and gets back up. "Yeah. Now use Bite." Skuntank runs at Bronzor and bites it, causing super effective damage due to Bronzor being part psychic. Bronzor flinches, preventing it from attacking. "Now use Flamethrower again." Skuntank releases another stream of fire from her mouth, and it hits Bronzor. Bronzor couldn't take it anymore and it falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Bronzor is unable to battle. Skuntank is the winner." said the referee.
"Yeah." cheered Ed. Byron returns Bronzor to its pokeball.
"You did well, Bronzor." said Byron. He pockets Bronzor's pokeball and pulls out another one. "Steelix, come out." He throws Steelix's pokeball and releases it.
"Skuntank, Flamethrower." said Ed. Skuntank releases a stream of fire from her mouth, and it hits Steelix, causing super effective damage.
"Steelix, Sand Tomb." said Byron. Steelix's eyes glowed blue and Skuntank becomes surrounded by a whirlwind of sand and gets consumed by it, causing super effective damage. When the whirlwind of sand clears, Skuntank is laying on the ground with swirly eyes.
"Skuntank is unable to battle. Steelix is the winner." said the referee.
"Yes, Steelix!" cheered Byron. Skuntank is suddenly surrounded by orange energy, and it explodes. Steelix gets caught in the explosion and gets damaged by it. "What was that?!"
"Skuntank's Aftermath ability." replied Ed. He returns Skuntank to her pokeball. "You did good, Skuntank." He puts Skuntank's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Come out, Golduck." He throws Golduck's pokeball and releases him. "Golduck, Aqua Tail." Golduck runs over to Steelix while water begins spiraling around his tail. He swings it and it hits Steelix, causing super effective damage. Steelix falls to the ground, but it gets back up.
"Steelix, use Slam." said Byron. Steelix swings its tail and smashes it onto Golduck, hurting him.
"Golduck, use Surf." said Ed. Golduck's eyes glow blue and creates a tidal wave of water and then jumps on it. Golduck rides the wave towards Steelix, and it crashes onto it. Golduck lands on the ground while Steelix is laying on it with swirly eyes.
"Steelix is unable to battle. Golduck is the winner." said the referee.
"Good work, Golduck." said Ed. Golduck flexes his muscles. Byron retruns Steelix to its pokeball.
"You did well, Steelix. You earned a rest." said Byron. "You're doing really well, Ed. But let's see how you do against Bastiodon." He takes out Bastiodon's pokeball out of his pocket and throws it, releasing it. "Bastiodon, Metal Sound." Bastiodon's head glows blue and vibrates, releasing silver soundwaves onto Golduck, weakening his defense.
"Golduck, Surf." said Ed. Golduck creates another tidal wave and rides it onto Bastiodon, causing super effective damage. But Bastiodon remains standing.
"Bastiodon, Take Down." said Byron. Bastiodon charges at Golduck and rams him, sending him flying back and landing on the ground. Bastiodon winces in pain due to Take Down causing recoil damage.
"Are you okay, Golduck?" asked Ed. Golduck jumps up from the ground and faces Bastiodon. "Okay, Golduck. Water Pulse." Golduck creates a ball of water with his hands and launches it at Bastiodon, hitting it, causing super effective damage. Bastiodon staggers back.
"Ancient Power." said Byron. Bastiodon becomes surrounded by white energy and forms it into a ball of silver energy and launches it at Golduck. It hits Golduck, making him stagger back, but he was hanging in there. But unfortunately for Bastiodon, Ancient Power did not power it up.
"Use Screech." said Ed. Golduck opens his beak and emits a loud screech, sending shockwaves onto Bastiodon, weakening its defense.
"Use Take Down one more time." said Byron. Bastiodon charges at Golduck.
"Dodge it." said Ed. Golduck leaps up into the air, avoiding Take Down, surprising Byron. "Now use Aqua Tail." Golduck goes down towards Bastiodon while water is spiraling around his tail and he swings it down onto Bastiodon, striking it, causing super effective damage. Bastiodon falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Bastiodon!" exclaimed Byron.
"Bastiodon is unable to battle. Golduck wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Ed." said the referee.
"You did it, Golduck." said Ed, running to Golduck and hugging him.
"Golduck." replied Golduck, giving a victory sign with his middle and index finger.
"Way to go, lumpy." said Eddy.
"Yes. Congratulations, Ed." said Edd. Byron returns Bastiodon to its pokeball.
"You did well, my friend." said Byron. He walks over to Ed who was still hugging Golduck. "You've done an excellent job training your Pokemon, Ed. I am pleased to reward you with the Mine Badge." He gives Ed the Mine Badge, along with pokedollars.
"Thanks." said Ed, taking them. He takes out his badge case and puts the Mine Badge into it. Byron turns to the bleachers where Edd and Eddy were sitting.
"Which of you boys will face me next?" asked Byron.
"I believe I will." replied Edd.
"As soon as I heal my Pokemon, we will have our battle." said Byron. He exits the gym while Ed also exits the gym to heal Skuntank and Golduck. Edd walks down from the bleachers and to the end of the arena Ed was on and stands there, waiting for Byron to return so they can battle. Edd knew he was in a tough spot with this gym battle. He didn't have a lot of Pokemon that would have an advantage against steel-types. Sure, Gallade was part fighting-type, but he didn't know any moves right now that would be very effective against steel-types. He thought for a while until he came up with a plan with the highest chance of success. Soon, Ed and Byron returned, with Ed going to the bleachers to join Eddy, and Byron going to his side of the arena. "I hope you're ready, kid. I'm not going to go easy on you."
"I didn't plan on you doing so. I'm going to do my absolute best to defeat you." said Edd.
"You better hope that will be enough." said Byron. The referee steps out onto the arena floor.
"This will be a three-on-three battle between the challenger, Edd, and the gym leader, Byron. Both trainers will battle until all three of a trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. The trainer with any Pokemon able to battle will be the winner. Let the battle begin." says the referee as he steps off the field. Byron and Edd each pull out a pokeball.
"Bronzor, come on out!" said Byron as he releases Bronzor.
"Empoleon, I choose you." said Edd as he releases Empoleon. Byron looks with interest.
"So you have a steel-type Pokemon as well. This should be good." said Byron.
"Empoleon, use Aqua Jet." said Edd. Empoleon surrounds himself with water and quickly moves at Bronzor and slams into him, sending it flying to the ground.
"Bronzor, use Hypnosis." said Byron. Bronzor tries to use Hypnosis on Empoleon, but it didn't work.
"Empoleon, use Aqua Jet one more time." said Edd. Empoleon hits Bronzor with another Aqua Jet, this time knocking it out.
"Bronzor is unable to battle. Empoleon is the winner." said the referee.
"Good work, Double-D!" said Eddy. Byron returns Bronzor to its pokeball.
"You rest up, Bronzor." said Byron as he puts Bronzor's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Steelix, come on out!" Byron releases Steelix from its pokeball.
"Quickly, Empoleon. Use Surf." said Edd. Empoleon summons up a large wave and it slams into Steelix, doing super-effective damage due to it being part ground-type.
"Oh no you don't! Steelix, use Thunder Fang!" said Byron. Steelix's jaws become coated in electricity, and it bites down on Empoleon, doing super-effective damage.
"Hurry, Empoleon. Use Bubblebeam." said Edd. Empoleon releases a large spray of bubbles which hit Steelix, doing super-effective damage. Fortunately for Empoleon, it was enough to knock Steelix out.
"Steelix is unable to battle. Empoleon is the winner." said the referee.
"Hang in there, sockhead. Just one more to go." said Eddy. Byron returns Steelix to its pokeball.
"Good work, Steelix. Take a break for a while." said Byron. "I'm impressed with your Empoleon, kid. He took Steelix's Thunder Fang and is still standing."
"Thank you, sir. I trained Empoleon the best I could." said Edd. Byron puts away Steelix's pokeball and pulls out his last one.
"For his sake, all that training will help him against my strongest Pokemon." said Byron. "Bastiodon, I choose you!" Byron releases Bastiodon from its pokeball. Edd knew he had to be ready for anything. "Bastiodon, use Thunderbolt!" Bastiodon unleashes a large bolt of electricity from its head which hits Empoleon, doing super-effective damage. Empoleon was struggling to keep standing.
"Empoleon. Are you still able to battle?" asked Edd. Empoleon's eyes lit up and he stands up straight. All of a sudden, Empoleon yells out and becomes surrounded by a surge of blue energy. Byron looks stunned.
"What's going on?!" asked Byron.
"I think this is Empoleon's Torrent ability. When Empoleon's nearly out of stamina, this ability will increase the power of his water-type attacks." said Edd. "Now's a really good time to use this move. Empoleon, hit Bastiodon with Brine." Empoleon hits Bastiodon with a massive blast of water with such force it knocks Bastiodon off its feet and sends it flying past Byron and into a wall. "Brine is a powerful move, especially in this situation."
"What do you mean?!" asked Byron.
"When the Pokemon using it has at the most, half of its stamina remaining, Brine's power is doubled. And combined with Empoleon's Torrent ability, plus his Splash Plate; Brine's power is immense." said Edd.
"Whoa." said Eddy. Byron looks at Bastiodon and is stunned to see that it's been knocked out.
"Bastiodon is unable to battle. Empoleon is the winner. The winner of the match is the challenger, Edd." said the referee.
"I...I don't believe it. Beaten by just one Pokemon." said Byron in disbelief. Edd runs over to Empoleon and hugs him.
"You did it, Empoleon." said Edd. Empoleon looks at Edd and smiles. Ed and Eddy come down from the bleachers to congratulate Edd.
"You did it, Double-D!" said Ed as he hugs Edd.
"That Brine was powerful!" said Eddy. Byron walks over to Edd.
"You are a skilled trainer, kid. Here is your Mine Badge." said Byron as he hands Edd his Mine Badge and some pokedollars.
"Thank you, sir." said Edd. Edd puts his Mine Badge in his badge case. Byron looks at Eddy.
"I hope you give me as much of a challenge as your friend here did." said Byron.
"You'll just have to see for yourself." said Eddy. Byron and Edd leave to get their Pokemon healed. Eddy went over what he learned about Byron's Pokemon from Ed and Edd's battles, as well as Devon's. After that, he picked which Pokemon he would use against Byron. Soon, Edd and Byron came back from the Pokemon Center. Edd joined Ed in the bleachers, and Byron took his previous spot on the arena floor.
"You ready, kid?" asked Byron.
"Bring it on!" said Eddy. The referee steps out to the center of the arena.
"This will be a three-on-three battle between the challenger, Eddy, and the gym leader, Byron. Both sides will battlle until all three of a trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. The trainer with any Pokemon able to battle after the match will be the winner. Let the battle begin." said the referee. He then steps off the field. Eddy and Byron each pull out a pokeball.
"Bronzor, come on out!" said Byron as he releases Bronzor.
"Infernape, let's go!" said Eddy as he releases Infernape. "Infernape, use Flame Wheel!" Infernape engulfs himself in fire, rolls towards Bronzor and slams into it, doing super-effective damage and knocking it out.
"Good thinking, Eddy. Infernape is a combination fire and fighting-type. Steel-type Pokemon are weak against both those types." said Edd.
"Sweet!" said Eddy. Byron returns Bronzor to its pokeball.
"Sorry, Bronzor." said Byron. He stares back at Eddy and Infernape. "This is not going to be easy." He puts Bronzor's pokeball back into his pocket and pulls out another one. "Come on out, Steelix!" Bronzor releases Steelix from its pokeball.
"Okay, Infernape. Use Power-Up Punch!" said Eddy. Infernape jumps at Steelix and punches it across the face, doing super-effective damage. A surge of energy flows through Infernape.
"Power-Up Punch's effect just increased Infernape's attack power." said Edd.
"Oh, yeah?!" said Byron. "Steelix, use Earthquake!" Steelix slams into the ground, shaking up the building and sending a shockwave through the floor which hits Infernape, doing super-effective damage.
"Infernape! Use Close Combat!" said Eddy. Infernape jumps at Steelix's head and delivers a series of punches and kicks to it. Thanks to the attack increase Infernape got from Power-Up Punch, Close Combat was enough to knock Steelix out.
"Steelix is unable to battle. Infernape is the winner." said the referee.
"You the man, Infernape!" said Eddy. Infernape turns and smiles, but suddenly starts to look tired. "Infernape? You okay, buddy?"
"Close Combat is strong, but it has a nasty little side effect. The defensive capabilities of the Pokemon that used it becomes weaker." said Edd.
"I need to remember that in the future." said Eddy.
"A wise idea, Eddy." said Edd. Byron returns Steelix to his pokeball.
"You did your best, Steelix. Take a breather." said Byron. He puts away Steelix's pokeball and brings out his last one. "Bastiodon, come out!" Byron releases his Bastiodon, and it stands ready for battle.
"I gotta end this quickly. Hurry, Infernape. Use Mach Punch!" said Eddy. Infernape quickly moves towards Bastiodon and punches it square in the face. It did more damage due to Bastiodon being a combination of rock and steel-type; both which are weak against fighting-type attacks such as Mach Punch. Byron growls in frustration.
"Who are these kids?!" Byron asked himself. "Bastiodon, use Stone Edge!" Bastiodon summons up a line of sharp-looking rocks out of the floor which heads towards Infernape and hits him. It does damage, but thanks to Infernape being part fighting-type, the damage wasn't super-effective.
"Infernape! Do you want to stop?" asked Eddy. Suddenly, Infernape became engulfed in an upsurge of red energy so powerful, it sent a shockwave through the gym, forcing everyone to shield their eyes.
"What now?!" asked Byron.
"Infernape's Blaze ability! It's like my Empoleon's Torrent ability, except it increases the power of fire-type moves." said Edd.
"Awesome!" said Eddy. "You ready to go wild, Infernape?" Infernape looks towards Eddy and grins. "Okay, pal. Hit Bastiodon with Flame Wheel." Infernape hits Bastiodon with a massive Flame Wheel, and thanks to the combined increases from Blaze, Infernape's Flame Plate, and Power-Up Punch; it was enough to knock out Bastiodon, despite the fact that it was part rock-type. Byron stares at Bastiodon with stunned shock.
"Incredible." said Byron with shock.
"Bastiodon is unable to battle. Infernape is the winner. The winner of the match is the challenger, Eddy." said the referee.
"You did it, Infernape!" said Eddy as he runs up to Infernape and hugs him. Infernape smiles in response. Ed and Edd run out to congratulate Eddy.
"You did good, Eddy." said Ed as he hugs Eddy.
"Congratulations, Eddy." said Edd.
"Thanks, guys." said Eddy. Byron walks up to Eddy.
"You kids are strong. And your Infernape is a very powerful Pokemon." said Byron.
"You know it." said Eddy.
"Here is your Mine Badge, Eddy." said Byron as he hands Eddy his Mine Badge and some pokedollars.
"Sweet." said Eddy. He then puts his new Mine Badge in his badge case. He then turns towards his friends. "Let's go celebrate, boys."
"Yay." said Ed. After arriving at the Canalave City Pokemon Center and giving Infernape's pokeball, the Eds go to the cafeteria. Minutes later, they are eating a pizza with a side of breadsticks and sodas to celebrate winning their sixth badges. Six badges down, two to go, and then they will have earned the right to compete in the Sinnoh League.
