Awaken
Slowly Ramza could feel his sense returning, The chill of the mountains was gone, replaced with a smothering Warmth. Heavy blankets covered his body, the fabric was thick and course making moving a bit of a struggle. The pain he had been in had lessened considerably, he no longer felt the lingering burns of the powder or the half healed arrow wound in his thigh. The soreness would work itself out in time, no worse than a long day training with Zalba-
Zalbag's back as he walked away
His eyes shot open as the memories flooded back to him unbidden, giving a ragged gasp of shock at the onslaught of images. He sat up grasping his chest, heart beating a mile a minute as he tried to get himself back under control.
"Oh, Are you awake?" a woman's voice trickled in behind his own pounding heart. Coming through the fabric flaps of the Tent(?) was a young woman about his age. She wore a curious dress that reminded him of the eastern wears from Warjillis. In truth It was hard to take his eyes off her long green(?!) hair tied back behind her in a functional ponytail. "I was starting to get worried, the way you were thrashing about in your sleep. iI must have been quite the harrowing dream."
"Where a-" before he could finish that sentence he found his mouth and throat too dry to continue, breaking into a sputtering cough. As he tried to control himself he found a cup made of clay offered to him, the woman offering an encouraging smile.
"Here, drink up."
Ramza managed to croak out a thank you as he took the sturdy vessel and took a long draught, feeling the cool water wash down his parched throat. The woman pulled up a stool to the side of the bed, her attentive gaze never wavering.
"I found you unconscious out in the plains." She pushed the conversation forward. "I'm not sure what left you laying out there in the high grass but you're safe now." He was out in the plains? Hadn't he been high up in the hills and crags of Ziekden? How far had that Devil thrown him?
"...You have my thanks for that Miss…"
"I am Lyn, of the Lorca Tribe." she offered with a small bow of the head. Lorca tribe? Something was very off… but she seemed more than genuine enough. "And who might you be?
"Ramza of House Beoulve." he answered naturally before painful memories made him grimace, the Beoulve name held a rather bitter taste in his mouth at the moment. "Well... formerly of at least."
"Oh dear, some kind of noble dispute?"
"...something to that effect," he managed to reply, not wanting to dwell on the very fresh memories that were still hanging at the edge of his mind.
"I see, if it is too painful to speak of I will not press the matter." Lyn seemed to have a strong level of empathy… that or he was doing a worse job of hiding his pain then he would like. "Would you like something to eat?"
"That… would be most welcome." He had nearly declined out of politeness but his stomach was rather adamant in disagreeing. The bemused chuckle from Lyn bringing a note of Scarlet to the noble's cheeks. But she did not tease, she offered him a wooden bowl full of broth. It had a strong herbal smell, though he could see some salted meat mixed in as well to give it more body. For his first meal in days it was much appreciated.
Though food and water did wonders for his body, his situation did not help his state of mind. According to Lyn it was somewhere in the plains of Sacae, in the lands of Elibe. She had never heard of Egros much less Ivalice, she was thankfully open minded enough not to call him crazy but neither could figure out how he'd gotten here. He kept any mention of the Devil a secret for now. It was late in day when heir conversation was interrupted by the movement of a gang of Bandits, Lyn initially planned to take on her own before Ramza grabbed his weapon to join her. The boorish lot were not a threat to the two of them and even their leader was swiftly dispatched.
"So where will you go next now that you're feeling better?"
"I am unsure." Ramza frowned lightly as he looked to the endless plains of green. "With my home seemingly out of reach I suppose I will need to find a way to make use of my skills in some manner." he admitted sheepishly. "If I can help people while doing so that would be the ideal."
"I see…" Lyn was quiet for a moment before she steadied herself. "Would it be alright if I joined you on your journey?"
"Hm, I would not deny the welcome company but you don't need to uproot yourself for my benefit."
"Not at all, I think if we work together we can accomplish a lot of good." she said earnestly. "I had been merely drifting along since my parents had been killed." she admitted with a small amount of shame. "But if I can hone these skills to help others… I think they're spirits would be much more at ease. As would my own." There was something in her gaze that held a fire, a drive that had not been there before. It was Infectious.
"Very well then Miss Lyn, shall we see where our swords take us?" he said, offering her a hand to which she took a firm shake.
It was the first of many bonds that would guide the misplaced noble along his new path and his first step in redeeming himself.
They're seemingly aimless journey quickly gained an aim when they met two knights who had ventured into Sacae looking for Lyn, or in this case Lady Lyndis of Caelin. The lost granddaughter of a Marquis who had fallen ill. On top of suddenly finding out of her noble ancestry, she had also found she still had living family. Ramza was quick to support her decision to meet with her grandfather and travel with her there. This encounter also brought the ivalician in contact with another curiosity… The Horse. Gone were the noble chocobo's of his country and replaced with a whole new beast. They bore no innate magic but they were sturdy and clever enough that he could reach an understanding with them and ride them.
Soon that was followed by another surprise of which Lyn was granted a legendary sword that only she could draw. It was all like something out of novels his sister Alma would read but in starting to get to know Lyn as a person it was clear she was getting swept up in a growing tide that she wasn't sure she could fight against… or even if she should try. The Young Beoulve did his best to support his new friend and their growing group. Florina the shy pegasus Knight, Will a down on his luck sellsword archer, The mysterious Thief Mathew, The bold Priestess Serra and her reluctant mage escort Erk. The group becoming known as Lyndis' Legion working through all threats on their way to Caelin. Camp became much more lively and hectic but it was a pleasant chaos that reminded him of better times back home. But as they made progress a particular encounter expanded Ramza's view of this world and what threats that were out there.
A pair of twins with pale skin and icy blue hair came into the scene, their red eyes sending vivid memories of the devil in the snow. On the run from an organized group for mysterious means joined the procession to Caelin. Their musical magic somehow being able to revitalize body and soul, a feat Ramza recalled his father mentioning for those who dedicated themselves to great magics of all schools. And yet even these two still seemed not to be adept with multi disciplines like the academy would often train.
