Sofia : The mystery behind Cedric's gloves
Summary: For as long as Sofia has known Cedric she has always wondered why he wears gloves all the time, she decided to solve the mystery of what he could possibly be hiding.
To say Sofia was having a streak of bad luck wasn't even the half of it, first she wakes up late, tears her dress, and to top it off she falls down the last 4 steps of the stairs landing awkwardly on her wrist, breaking it in the process and to make ten times harder for her she sprains her ankle and badly bruised her knees, when she found by Baileywick, her parents took her to checked out quickly, so she was put in a wheelchair to rest her ankle and knees, and her wrist was put in cast.
For the next two weeks Sofia basically sat at home doing homework, reading or hanging with her animals friend until Amber and James got home, while Cedric does come around to visit he is busy at times, but one day Sofia was just sitting out in the garden a bit bored out of her mind, when she spotted Cedric in the distance, possibly picking out herbs or something like that for his potions.
As she watched him work, she couldn't help but wonder about something, why did Cedric wear gloves so much?
She pondered that question for a while until Baileywick came by to check on her and that when she decided to ask him.
"Baileywick, do you know why Mr. Cedric wears gloves?"
Baileywick thought about for a second and then shrugged his shoulders, "I don't believe, I have a clue as to why he does, he just started to wear then one day in his teens and we all figure that he was just wearing them to be a bit rebellious or something like that, but no one really knows why."
Sofia was a bit disappointed by the answer, but decided to not give up, so with that thought she had Baileywick wheel her back inside.
So Sofia spend most of her afternoon asking everyone in the castle if they knew the reason why Cedric wore gloves and most her answers were either rumors or theories at best, even Roland who grew up with Cedric didn't really know the reason much to Sofia's dismay, but she wasn't giving up that easily, so she decided that when she was well enough to walk again she was going to march up to the tower and just ask him.
When Sofia went in for her check up, the doctor tested her ankles and was pleased to see that there was no lasting damage or pain and the bruises around her knees was pretty much gone, her wrist still has be in a cast for a few more weeks though and to take it easy.
Sofia came home without a wheelchair this time and she was so happy that she decided to go visit Mr. Cedric, when she got to the stairs, she wary, but careful as she made her way up the stairs and knocked on the door.
The door opens and when Cedric see her, he is a bit surprised.
"Sofia did you walk up here?" He asked concerned.
Sofia nodded, "Yes I did, don't worry Mr. Cedric the doctor give me the all clear, my ankles are better, my wrist still needs be in cast though." she grimaces.
"Well come in, I was just about finished up on bone healing potion and before you ask no I am not giving it to you, it only be used on adults and under extreme conditions I would only give to a child if they were in danger of death it very strong and could cause more harm then good on a child's body." Cedric states, causing Sofia to pout a bit as her hopes of getting out of her cast of early was dashed.
She watched as he worked around the lab, mixing, cutting and smashing or reading as he completed the potion.
When he was done, Sofia just decided to ask him right then before she lost her nerve.
"Why do you wear gloves?"
Cedric was a bit startled by the question, but then he sighs as he simply removes them to reveal tree like scarring along the back of the hands and palms.
Curious Sofia reaches out to touch them, they were faded and bumpy and it looked kind of pretty like a tattoo.
"I was trying to learn a lighting spell for an assignment in school, when it backfired on me, I was struck by lightning so to speak, thankfully it didn't kill me, but I was badly burn, the scaring doesn't just cover my hands but my arms and stops at the shoulders."
"Does it hurt? She asked curious and concerned.
Cedric shakes his head, "No, not anymore it used too, if wasn't for these gloves I would barely be able to make potions or do magic, if you closely at them they have little symbols on them."
Sofia took one of the gloves and it had symbols that kind of looked like a goat's head, confused she asked what it was.
"It called the Encelia Rune or rather the divine healing rune, it believed that this powerful rune was made by angels and given to the first sorcerer and sorceress of magic to help the hurt and disabled and ease the suffer of the sick and dying. For me I was desperate to find a spell that would help my hands or at least give them relief from the pain, that when I found this rune, so I grabbed few pairs of these gloves and after some careful research I was able to curve the rune into it and have it only work for my magic only, now I could stop wearing these, but I have grown used to wearing them and plus them keep my hands warm." Cedric explained blushing a bit.
Sofia chuckled a little at the last statement.
"I hope that this answer your question?" Cedric asked, Sofia nods.
"It did, thank you Mr. Cedric, well I better go find Clover before he eats all the vegetable in the garden, see you." She wave goodbye before carefully making her down the stairs.
Cedric smiles and give a small wave back, watching to makes sure she got down safely and then he closes the door and without thought pulls his gloves back, enjoying the everlasting warmth they provided as he get back to work, feeling a little lighter then before.
