The Legend of the Werewolf

Selene watched the man, Jasen, with interest. He was a strong man, and handsome as well. Selene smiled predatorily. She hadn't had a good affair in ages. Her mind made up; Selene approached the poor man as a young, busty blonde.

"Hello, handsome." She purred.

Jasen gulped nervously. "Hello miss. I'm sorry, but I don't have time to chat right now. My wife's expecting me." He hoped that would deter the young woman. Jasen loved his wife and would never betray her.

Selene frowned as he walked off. Married, was he? Well, that had never stopped her before.

It continued on for several weeks, but Selene could not tempt the young man from his wife. Finally, she stooped to a level she had never needed to before; she disguised herself as his wife.

Sure enough, he accepted her with open arms. Selene smiled as he bent down to kiss her. The kiss was as sweet and sensuous as she had imagined it to be. Then suddenly, he tore his lips away from hers. Throwing her away from him, he cried, "Away demon! What have you done to my wife?"

Enraged, Selene resumed her true form. Jasen trembled as the goddess appeared before him. He had spurned her! This did not bode well.

Fire flashing in her eyes, Selene screamed her fury. "A demon, am I? From this day forth, you shall be a beast upon the full moon. As a beast, you shall hate all humans and hunger for their flesh. A demon you shall be called and be shunned by all man. Your disease, spread by your bite, is as a werewolf." Then in a flash of silver light, she was gone from the earth.

The next full moon, Selene's curse took effect. As the moon rose, a horrendous pain sprang upon him as his bones broke and shifted. Fully transformed, he turned his eyes on the nearest human, his dear wife.

The curse of the werewolf is a painful one, as it involves, not only the pain of body, but also the pain of knowing that no human is safe from you. And though the man Selene desired to punish is long dead, the curse remains. The gods are fickle and care little for those who serve them.
