someone else, Penelope Malfoy, and all the houses. Yup.
Summary: AU. Draco Malfoy moves from his old home to a new home where he meets the ever-popular Harry Potter. Will Harry's popularity get the best of him? Or will Draco be able to take Harry away from the crowd? Slash H/D!
Warnings: Slash, some OOC-ness, mention of Draco/Ron, and violence.
AN: Well, here's the next installment of FO. I actually like this story quite a bit. I can't believe this is chapter 8! I'm sorry to say that I've lost quite a few reviewers with the fact that there was mentioning of Draco/Ron. That is my fault, for not informing people of it, but as I said, it was an extremely quick change. I thought it would be more different and what would make this story a little bit more unique. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate all the other people who review my story. I look foward to reading my reviews and it makes me happy that people actually do like this story. I still can't believe I got past 10 reviews! For me, that's an extreme accomplishment! Because this chapter was a little shorter, I decided to give you all a little treat at the end! Nothing big, but it's something! Enjoy!
What you'll see in this chapter: Speeding cars, remembering old things, and what you've all been waiting for! I think...
Dedication: Chiquita-3 and Rowenna! Both were responsible for the completeion of this chapter! Without them, this wouldn't even be out here now!
"Yeah...I'll walk with you to Ron's house if you want."
"That would be wonderful."
Draco led Harry out of his room, leaving Penelope lying on the bed, still cataleptic. Draco made a stop at his mother's bedroom. Narcissa was working on some papers that she had to finish before her work started the next day. She hurriedly shooed them out of her room, telling Draco to stop by the store and pick up some groceries.
They both left the house after Draco had grabbed his keys, laughing and talking. Then Harry asked a question that instantly changed the mood. "So who was your father?"
Draco stopped in his tracks and looked at the ground, fists clenched. "My father," he said, "was someone who worked for the government."
Gasping, Harry finally came to a conclusion. "Lucius Malfoy was your father!"
The wind blew silently as an uncomfortable silence settled in between the two. Draco shifted from one leg to the other as Harry just stood there, watching him with wide, emerald eyes. Harry knew he had treaded on sensitive territory. Draco started walking again, and Harry followed. It was quiet until Draco decided to say something.
"I bet you didn't know he had a son and a daughter. He never spoke of us publicly, and we never went with him to his social gatherings. He didn't want us there. He didn't really talk about my mother either, but she was always with him. Lucius was always too caught up with his work to notice us most of the time. It almost drove me over the edge. Father never meant any harm to us though. He was just having too much fun, seeing as it was always his dream to work in the government.
"Then he started doing his boss, Voldemort's, dirty work. Soon, though, my dad started keeping information that was essential, from Voldemort. I really don't know why father kept the information, but not long after, Voldemort and his friends, if you could even call them that, murdered my father. It was horrible. Seeing him, lying on the floor, his face a ghastly white color. I never expected to see--" Draco stopped, realizing he had already told Harry too much. He didn't know why, but it felt good to let someone else know how he felt. It was dangerous though. If Harry knew he had killed Arthur, surely he would turn him in. "Never mind. Shall we cross the road now?"
Harry raised an eyebrow at the sudden change of topic, but didn't say anything as he nodded in respone to Draco's question. They looked both ways before stepping onto the street. Draco stopped when he reached the other side of the road. He stood on the cement and waited a second for Harry to appear next to him. When he didn't, however, Draco turned around , only to see Harry standing in the middle of the street.
"Harry?" Draco asked as he arched an eyebrow. Harry's only response was a small smirk.
"Harry, get out of the street." Harry only shook his head, turning to face the car that was now heading towards him.
Draco instinctively took a step foward onto the mix of rocks and tar.
The car started going faster and faster as it kept going straight. Harry's pulse quickened with every moment going by. He couldn't get the smile off his face as the cra grew nearer and nearer, second by second. The car never slowed down, and Harry never backed away and soon, the car was only a few feet away. The rest of it was like a dream to Harry as he heard Draco cry out his name.
"HARRY!"
Draco ran foward as fast as he could and threw himself at Harry, pushing them both back onto the concrete, and away from the speeding car. Harry got the wind knocked out of him as Draco landed on top of him. Draco looked down at Harry with worried eyes. He hoped Harry was alright, seeing as he was the one who hit the ground.
When Harry looked up at Draco, he thought he was an angel. His vision was a little blurry due to the fact that his glasses had been thrown to the side. The light from the sun caused Draco to look as though he was glowing and his hair shining as though there were a halo atop his head. His grey-blue eyes looked concerned and worried for a second, and Harry truly thought he looked beautiful.
And that's when everything in Harry's vision went black.
It was getting hotter and hotter by the second and Draco had nothing but his hands to fan himself with. He was standing outside of the Weasley's house. It took him a few minutes to get directions from someone who, fortunately for Draco, knew the Weasley's quite well. His arms were tired from carrying Harry the short distance that he did.
When someone finally opened the door, it was Molly Weasley. She wore a surprised look on her face at seeing Draco on her front porch. Draco gave a small smile and mumbled a low, "Hi mum."
Though Draco despised Ron now, he still loved Mrs. Weasley and the rest of her family. She had always been like his second mother. When Narcissa needed someone to watch him and Penelope, she had always gone to, as they used to call her, Mama Weasley. She always made Draco's favorite foods, and only she could make his favorite kind of pie, just the way he liked it. Apple pie with a sprinkle of powdered sugar and a lot more cinnamon.
"Draco? Goodness child, come in! Come in!"
"Sorry mum, but I'm in a bit of a rush. Do you think you could tell Ron that I need to speak with him?"
"Of course, dear. He'll be down in a second!" She said as she rushed back into the house and called for Ron. He heard Ron mumble something, followed by a small smack on the arm, and a "You don't speak to me that way young man!"
When Ron finally made it out the door, he had the same flabbergasted look on his face as Mama Weasley had on hers. "Draco? What the hell are you doing here?"
Draco leaned in close to Ron's ear and heard Ron's breathing quicken slightly. He quickly whispered something and Ron immediately looked around his porch for any signs of Harry.
"Where is he?"
Dragging Harry over to Ron, Draco quickly explained what had happened and Ron took Harry inside. Once he came back minutes later, he closed the front door and looked at Draco.
Draco could only look at his feet and he knew Ron was looking at him. They were quiet for a few seconds and Draco went over what he had been wanting to ask Ron for a few years. First, he wanted to ask Ron why. Why did he help kill his father? Did he even care if Draco was here or not? Did he even remember all the good times they had before Draco found out the truth? Did he even love him?
"Why?" Draco asked aloud before he knew what he was saying. Ron stayed quiet for a moment before replying.
"Because."
Because? Because!? He killed Lucius Malfoy 'because'? That certainly wasn't an answer Draco was about to accept. He demanded to know exactly what his reasons were. He wanted to know. Now.
"No, tell me why! I have a reason to know!"
"You killed my father too!"
"That was different." Draco said, his voice getting quiet.
"What does it matter? They both died in the end! An eye for an eye, Draco!" Ron exclaimed.
"It hurt, you know? It hurt so much to know that you didn't care. About me, about everything we shared, about my family, about anything that had to do with me at all!" Draco had to hold back his tears. He wasn't going to cry infront of Ron. Not anymore.
Ron just looked at Draco, face completely the same. "Well, too bad. Get over it."
Draco was about to slap Ron, when someone else beat him to it. A loud sound came from the action and Ron grabbed the side of his face where a pink handprint was starting to form on his cheek. A girl had slapped him. She had strawberry blonde hair, and beautiful green eyes that almost looked like Harry's and suited her perfectly. She had a nice tan over her body, and Draco thought he had recognized her. Draco just assumed she went to Hogwarts with them. All and all, she was quite attractive, and Draco felt as though he would get along with her just fine.
"BAD RON, BAD!" She scolded as she pointed her index finger in his face. With a turn of her heel, she left, just as quickly as she came. Ron stood there, rooted to the spot as Draco started laughing. He clutched his stomach as his laughter increased, eventually making him lean against one of the several columns holding up the front of the Weasley's house.
Ron glared at Draco and went inside his house, slamming the door shut as he did so. Draco just stared at the door, as he processed what had just happened. Ron. Slapped. Laughing. Door. Slammed.
Draco ran to the door and started knocking on it. Harry was inside and Draco didn't intend on leaving him there alone. Who knew what Ron would do to him? All the possibilities ran through Draco's head and he knocked on the door more desperately.
"Harry!" He shouted, hoping Harry could hear him through the door. "Ron, open the door. Open the door now. I need to take Harry home."
The door slowly creaked open and Harry emerged. Draco breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Harry's beautiful emerald eyes. Draco just stared at Harry's eyes and noticed the golden flecks that danced around the pupils. It was amazing.
"Thank you." Harry smiled at Draco and looked down at his feet. Draco had never seen Harry act so shy before, and he kind of liked it.
"It was no problem."
Harry slowly lifted his gaze to lie on Draco's face. A small blush was creeping over his cheeks and his smile slowly faded away as he noticed Draco's face coming closer towards his. His stomach did little flip-flops and his legs felt as though they would melt any second now. This is what he, Harry Potter, had wanted though, right? This is what he had been waiting for, right?
Their breaths mingled together as their lips drew closer. Draco felt as though it was his first kissing experience. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so giddy asbout a kiss before. At long last, their lips touched, but barely. To them, the simple touch was electrifying and when Harry pushed his lips further onto Draco's, Draco had to hold himself up with one fo the pillars, otherwise he knew he would fall on the ground. He felt the adrenaline rush through him as the kiss lingered a little longer before Harry slowly pulled his face away from Darco's. Neither was sure who had initiated the kiss, but they both knew that they had liked it.
AN: Was that goo? Bad? In the middle? Too cliche? Review and tell me! I bet you guys didn't expect them to kiss so soon, but I decided that you guys earned the right to see them share a small little smooch. It was the fastest thing I wrote in this chapter. I was quite satisfied too. It's the first kiss scene I have ever written! I know some things in this chapter don't make sense, for instance, why was Harry standing in the middle of the road, smiling, as a speeding car came towards him, and why didn't the car stop!? You will know soon! Patience is a virtue! Now here's your teaser!
Draco's fingers played with the hem of his sleeve as he sat on the living room couch. What was taking so long? He never understood why people took forever to get dressed. Besides, it was just a dance, right? Surely you didn't need to make your date wait so long.
As Draco sat on the couch, Harry and his date sat on seperate recliners. Harry was smirking at Draco, when his date grabbed his hand. Harry turned to the girl and smiled. Oh yes, this was going to be one very interesting evening.
AN: Well there ya go. I actually like that teaser. It was hard to choose which part of the next chapter I wanted to use. Since the next chapter is only partly written, it might take awhile, but the more reviews I get, the more I'll think about finishing up the next chapter! Anywho, responses to reviewers!
ura: Thank you! Hugs
Mon2: I won't tell you exactly why Harry and Ron were arguing just yet, but I can tell that Ron is starting to get a little jealous so far. He's sort of mad that he's no longer the center of Draco's attention, whether it be for a good reason, or a bad one, he doesn't care. Since Draco's now more focused on Harry, Ron feel's like all he's done doesn't matter anymore and isn't affecting Draco like it used to. So, now that I've given you half of Ron's motives, I might as well say that Ron is going to gradually become more jealous. If I were to go further, I would basically be telling you the rest of the story! I will continue this story, so don't fret. Thank you! Huggles
Yana5: Of course he does! It's just taking him a little while to realize it. Thank you! Hugs
Chiquita-3: Wow, where do I begin? Let's see, this is probably the longest review I have ever seen. I know what you mean about being addicted to some stories. I never thought that mine would be considered one of them. It doesn't surprise me that you had never read slash. It depends really, on which category you usually visit. There are at least some slash stories in every section. Now I have to ask, was it the bright light, or the name that drew you to my story? I did not know that H/D was the most written about pair on ff.net. It doesn't really surprise me though. The popularity of the Harry Potter series only makes it natural that people would write so much about it. It's the same with the Lord of The Rings. I think that it's probably the fact that Harry and Draco started out as not being enemies and if Harry would have just shook Draco's hand; The whole story would have been different. There are so many alternatives to the story. Also, just knowing that they are enemies who could have been something different from the beginning, makes people's imagination run wild. I don't really know if that even makes sense. There are so many things that you have said that I agree with and used to think. For instance, when you said that you used to think slash was an insult to the author, authoress, or whoever created the characters. I used to feel the exact same way. Then my friend started reading and writing slash, and it wasn't until Kingdom Hearts came out, that I was formally introduced to slash. My friend started talking about it more and more, and finally I had to see for myself what was so good about it. I never considered myself homophobic, I was just never really that interested in it until now. Slash isn't my life, though. I know alot of people who are completely obsessed with it, that it's all they read, dream, and think about. I actually spend a lot of my time reading novels that don't contain any gay couples. I guess it's just that little thrill of reading something that's practically forbidden, which keeps me tuned in. I'm very proud of you for finally reading slash! I dub thee...honorary...slash reader! Okay. that was kind of stupid... Anyways, I'm glad that you liked my story. I actually went around reading a few stories and checking up on old stories I've read in the past. I don't know whether you wanted to read short stories that havent been finished yet, or long, completed ones. If you include your e-mail, and what type of story you'd like, I'd be more than happy to give you a few H/D titles on ff.net! Thank you so much! I think this response was longer than the actual chapter! Huggles you lots and lots
Rowenna: I know I said that, but there was just this empty space and I needed to fill it! If I hadn't of, this chapter would have been shorter! I'm sorry to have kept you all waiting, but I did give you all a treat to fill your tummies a little, right? Thank you! Huggles
Phoebe: Thanks! I was thinking of changing the summary to something a little more fitting, What do you think? I agree that a Draco who lacks people skills would be kind of weird, but sometimes it does fit! Thank you! Hugs
Gabrielle Potter (alysiarobledoYahoo.com) : Thank you for reviewing and I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
AN: As I was writing these responses, I felt it was rather boring, and I would have had this out days ago, had it not been for the fact that I felt it needed to be more... exciting! I don't know what I should do though. If any of you out there have any ideas for making this more fun, please let me know! Do you people see the things I do for you!?
Review Please!
