Jack's POV
I remember when I got the call. I had just finished a gig right outside of Columbus when my phone rang. I thought about ignoring it, but when my caller ID flashed that it was Jerry I decided against it. It had been a while since I had talked to him and I was curious to why he was calling me so late. I got away from all the noise and answered.
"Hey Jerry, whats going on bro" I remember saying. It was silent for a minute, then he responded.
"Jackie" he sounded different, his voice was hoarse and I could only remember one time hearing mim sound that way. It was a long time ago and we had found this dog, Ma was letting us keep him, he was a stray and Ma had the biggest heart and couldn't stand to see anything go without a home. We named him Doozer, Jerry loved him. He was a great dog, but he had a knack for getting loose and wondering around then one day he got hit by a car and was killed. It broke Jerry's heart, and he was using that same voice tonight as he did when found out Doozer died and asking Ma why it had to happen to him. It scared me.
"Jerry you ok?" I asked, unsure of what to do.
"Jack" he said slowly "I have to tell you something and I need you to just listen and be calm, its going to be ok"
"Jer, your actin' freaky, just tell me happened, you didn't do anything stupid did you?" I was scared now, Jerry was always the calm one of the bunch and he was just , well he seemed gone.
"Ma's dead Jackie" he said it, at first I didn't know what he said I thought I was hearing things, but I was wrong.
"Jack, Jackie, you ok? Say something." Jerry said. I tried but nothing came out. I had my back against the wall for support. My mind was going in circles with questions, how, when, where, why? I could feel hot tears down my cheeks, then sobs. I finally was able to get out that I'd be there soon. I didn't know how but I'd get there.
