Yahoo! I didn't really like my other fic, so I decided to make a new one…Actually, I just randomly got inspired by a picture I was drawing. This was originally going to have a girl as the main character, and she was going to end up with the farmer…but…Well, who knows! I'm not going to reveal the pairings yet! Mwahahaha! It's a surprise! (By the way, this is Save the Homeland)
Disclaimer: You are an idiot if you think I own Harvest Moon.

I really had nowhere else to go. No family…no friends. Me, Hikaru Masaki…a vagabond. And only sixteen-years-old to boot. Oh yeah, my life is great. I remember it was raining really hard last night, and I couldn't exactly see where I was going. I was so tired…the minute I felt that door in front of me I rushed in and flopped down on the softest thing available and went to sleep.
The next morning I woke up to the smell of tea.
"Ugh…where am I?" I groaned, sitting up and rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
"My place. How you got here, who knows…" someone mumbled, trailing off at the end.
I looked around for the source of the voice. The place wasn't very big so I was able to spot him immediately. Not to mention the fact that he had fiery orange hair that would stand out just about anywhere.
He was a young guy, a little older than me, and he was currently cooking breakfast, it seemed. I then realized my situation.
"Oh! I-I'm so sorry!" I stuttered, jumping out of the bed I was in. "It was so dark and I just—"
"Who are you anyways? You look like you've been living in a trash can", the boy cut in.
That wasn't too far from the truth.
"I'm…Hikaru Masaki."
"You live around here, Masaki-san?"
"Well, no", I admitted, a bit embarrassed. "I don't exactly live anywhere…I'm a vagabond", I added when he gave me a confused look. Now he just looked bewildered.
"A vagabond? What are you going to do?" A different voice said. I turned to see a boy in a bandana standing in the doorway.
Sheepishly, I replied, "Oh, you know…I'll probably just do some more wandering…"
"Hey, Kurt, why don'tcha let him stay with you?" The boy in the bandana said to the other boy who was now scowling.
"What? Why should I? He replied, crossing his arms.
"Where else is the kid gonna go? Besides, this isn't really your place anyways. Technically, it's Woody's guesthouse. And the kid's a guest."
Kurt sighed in defeat. It seems he has a hard time saying no to the other boy…
"Fine. The kid can stay", Kurt said reluctantly. "What was your name again?"
"Hikaru Masaki…Thank you for letting me stay here", I said, bowing.
"Masaki-san, eh? Lemme get you some clean clothes…Oh, and my name is Joe", he added. He began rummaging in a nearby dresser, and after a few moments he surfaced with an outfit that I could already tell was too big for me.
"These are some of Kurt's clothes, so they might be a bit big…"
As I tried them on, Kurt argues with Joe about not wanting me wearing his clothes, and by the time I finished, Joe had won and Kurt was looking even surlier.
The outfit was indeed to big for me, seeing as I was a small kid and Kurt was older anyway, and the sleeves went way past my hands giving me an orphaned look. I didn't really mind, seeing as I was an orphan anyway.
Joe was smiling, Kurt was glaring, and I was…well, I was looking out of place.
"Welcome to your new home, kid", Joe said, grinning.
I beamed back. Finally, I have a place to call home…
