Kourtney's first read with the cast of Legally Blonde was Thursday. Kourtney, due to her anxiousness, was one of the first cast members there. The director told her to warm up vocally. Today they weren't going to sing out, but they were running the music.
Kourtney saw the pianist sitting at the piano. It was the same girl from her audition. "Hey, can you give me my opening note for Chip on My Shoulder?" Kourtney requested.
"Sure," Julia responded. She played the first note of the act one song.
"Love," Kourtney sang. "I put my faith in love. I followed where it led. To my own personal circle of-"
"Kourtney?" a voice asked. Kourtney didn't want to be right about whose voice that was. She turned around, spotting her ex-boyfriend.
April was the worst month of Kourtney's life. Between losing one of her best friends, graduation stress, and E.J's episode, it was an overall stressful and tiring month. Kourtney thought Howie was understanding when he gave her space. That was until she found out about his college girlfriend.
"Howie," Kourtney said. "What are you doing here?"
"You didn't see the announcement?" Howie asked. "I'm the primary Warner."
Like what happened when Elle found out Vivian and Warner were together, Kourtney half expected her female wild cat friends to become her imaginary Greek chorus, as this was a tragedy.
"You're in this show?" Kourtney asked.
"Yes," Howie said. "What? Like getting cast was hard?"
You always promised yourself you would never let boy drama ruin your life. Kourtney just laughed. Let's be professionals here.
Howie walked over to the table where they were serving complimentary coffee. "Can you give me my opening note again?" Kourtney requested. Julia didn't say anything. She only played the chord Kourtney requested. When Kourtney got to the line where Elle asked Emmett to bash her head in with a rock, someone else entered the rehearsal space. That person's identity made her think she accidentally said the name of the cursed play.
"Sorry, I'm late," Jet called. "It took me forever to get a taxi."
Kourtney noticed the script in his hands. It had 'EMMETT FORREST' written in big black words under the show's title, but above the credit of those who wrote the musical and its music. She and Jet had a thing over the summer at Camp Shallow Lake. However, they didn't talk after the trailer dropped. His parents didn't know about them, and they weren't very keen on the idea of him dating.
"It's okay," the director called. "We haven't started yet. Everyone is warming up on their own."
"I'll be right back," Kourtney told Julia. She needed to call Nini right now.
