AN: Hello everyone, I am glad to hear that many of you are enjoying the story so far. Like I said before I don't know how this story will go thus far but I am enjoying writing it. I have been going over this chapter in my head for a few days now and finally I think it's ready to put to paper.
Petunia sat on the sofa in the sitting room, Dudley and Harry sat on the floor playing with each other, though mostly it was Dudley trying to poke and prod his cousin and determine where he had come from. She kept reminding Dudley to play nice, Vernon was due to arrive any moment now with Dumbledore hot on his heels. She had sent her loud though beloved husband to work despite his many offers to stay with her. She had wanted him out so that she could clean the house and prepare herself for another venture into the Wizarding World, something she had not done in many years, not since Lilly had been in school.
Vernon burst through the door and into the sitting room, his mustache aquiver as he promptly sat in his chair. "Where the hell is he?" He barked, clearly indicating that his temper was on the rise.
"He should be here in about five minutes." She said, looking at the silver wristwatch she wore every day. It was five till noon, he would not be here before that time.
Vernon grunted and turned on the television, adjusting the volume to normal level. She sighed and stood, stepping into the hall to wait for Dumbledore to arrive. She wasn't exactly nervous, but she did want everything to go smoothly. She was just going over his letter again when the bell rang.
She quickly opened the door to find a tall man in a crisp suit standing there, he had long white hair that flowed down his back and a flowing beard that was neatly tied at the end. He smiled politely at her as he extended his hand in introduction.
"Greetings, I am Albus Dumbledore, you must be Petunia." He said as she shook his hand.
"Yes." She said in terms of greeting. "Come in, I am glad you were able to come in person."
He smiled and stepped into the hall, she closed the door behind and lead the way into the sitting room. As he settled onto the couch she offered refreshments and settled into making tea.
"I apologize for the unexpected arrival of your nephew this morning." He said as she passed him the biscuit tin.
She frowned as she turned to start setting out the cups, offering sugar and cream as she did so. "I would have preferred that he had been delivered in person." Petunia stated with a sigh.
"I am afraid that urgency in the matter required that I had to be elsewhere and none that I trusted were able to bring him." Dumbledore stated with a weary nod.
"So, it's true?" She asked as she settled into her own cup of tea. "They are...gone?" she continued, nodding her head toward Harry as she indicated that she was referring to her Sister and Brother-in-Law.
"I am afraid so." He said as he gave her a nod that seemed to carry the greatest of weight. "Harry was able to survive thanks to her sacrifice."
She felt her heart nearly stop as he confirmed her sister, no Lily's death. She felt the years since she and her sister had been close open into a wide and dark chasm. It was hard to know how she felt at this news, sad, hurt, angry.
Dumbledore cleared his throat and she looked back to him. "I am hoping that you will agree to take Harry, as I said in my letter there are few that can offer him the protection that you can due to you sharing his mother's blood."
Petunia nodded, she had spent most of the day going over and over the decision to raise the Boy, Harry. She sighed, knowing she could not now allow her anger from all those years ago at the denial of attending Hogwarts and the Magic she did not possess ruin another important relationship. She knew that it would be hard, knowing that once again she would not be allowed to participate and this time she would not be alone.
Petunia nodded. "Yes, we will keep him." She said and took a sip of her tea. "But please be aware that we cannot allow him to continue to be Magical. Our lives have been far removed from that of my parents."
He smiled at her, setting the tea cup aside as he drew forth a long stick, no she remembered it was a wand. " Well actually, you may find that not as easy to do." He said gently as he twirled the wand and a scroll appeared and settled itself on the coffee table.
She stared down at the scroll and then back at him, wondering what this could potentially mean. "Read the list."
She returned her gaze down to the scroll and jumped back as words...appeared? She read through the scrawling script, it appeared to be some sort of list:

Petunia stared at the scroll, reading the names over and over until she squeaked alerting Vernon to the situation. She looked up at Dumbledore again, how could this be possible, she and Vernon were as non-magical as one could possibly be.
"WHAT!" Vernon roared as she realized he was reading the list. "D-D-D...He's a-a-a-"
Dumbledore nodded at her stuttering husband and smiled. "Yes Mr. Dursley, your son is a wizard and has been accepted to Hogwarts. I believe that in raising the two together you will also be able to best prepare them both for School."
Petunia turned to look at her Husband, wondering how he would take to raising a magical child and now here they would be raising two. She nodded her understanding of the idea and agreement as she understood that this could possibly finally be what would allow her to fully be free of the dark void she had established between herself and...Lilly's life.
Vernon seemed on the verge of breaking down as she reached over and gently handed him his tea which he took and drank mechanically. Setting the cup back down he stood and went to the armoir near the writing desk, pulling out the scotch she knew he kept for long days and bad deals. She smiled softly as he rejoined them, taking several sips from his glass.
"I-I don't understand." Vernon said, shocking her with his seeming acceptance. "How can Dudley be a wizard?"
"Ah, yes." Dumbledore said, smiling as he began to explain. "Magic is and of itself a most curious thing, it is not always certain who will be chosen to be born a witch or wizard. True it is mostly those with Pure Magical Blood tend to produce mainly children of magical blood, however, Muggles also can produce children who are Magical despite never having a Witch or Wizard in their family before."
Vernon seemed to take in the knowledge, she herself soaking up the information in case it would be important later. It was interesting that their entire life was going to change in just the span of a few short and tedious hours.
"Of course Witches and Wizards often marry Muggles and thus you also find that the children can vary between Magical and Non-Magical." He continued still finishing the explanation. "My hypothesis would be that either he was chosen at random or your bloodline having already produced a Witch in Lilly though it skipped yourself Petunia."
She frowned, remembering again the long ago letter to the man who now sat before her in which she had begged to attend the School. She sighed again, Dudley would now be attending the school in just a few short years alongside her Nephew.
"My Son is Magical!" Vernon exclaimed, though she doubted that he would truly understand what that meant at least until the boys were older.
"Yes, he is." She said, turning to see that Harry and Dudley were sitting there watching the three of them as they played. It seemed that they had finally managed to find some semblance of peace as Dudley had stopped his torment.
"Before I leave, with your permission, I will be casting several defensive charms upon your house and land to shield it from those who would see harm to you and your family as well as to Harry." He said as he returned the meeting to his reason for being here. "I promise that I will do what I can to ensure that the precautions taken will not disrupt your normal routines."
Petunia nodded and sighed, she knew deep down though that it was the right thing that they were doing. "Of course." She said, wondering what exactly he would be doing.
"Well, unless you have further questions, as I said in my letter so long as Harry is allowed to call your residence home you will all benefit from the protection that Mrs. Potter and I provide." He stated as he began to stand. "Again all I ask is that during the summer holidays and prior to starting Hogwarts he be allowed to stay and return here, once he turns Seventeen and is legally an adult there is nothing I can do to stop the protection she provided from ceasing to exist."
Petunia nodded, she didn't understand everything he was saying but she would do what she could to ensure the safety of her Nephew. "Yes, he will be welcome to stay." She said, seeing that her Husband was draining the dregs of his whiskey and looking at the cabinet as if ready to pour another.
Dumbledore nodded and she walked him to the front door before heading to the kitchen to make lunch. She wondered if Vernon would stay home for the rest of the day as her mind returned to what she had just learned about her son. This was going to change so many things, things that she had not even thought about while growing up and now she would not have her parents to rely on for advice on how to raise a child who is Magical.
I hope you all enjoy the new chapter. Please note that for the Characters listed above Alexis Yates and Cassandra Yates are original characters of my own that have been featured in other stories, while they may not play a major role within the story itself I feel that Harry's class overall while at Hogwarts was very small despite the grandeur depicted in the books. I am not in any way affiliating them with the canon or claiming that anything within this story is canon to the world of Harry Potter or its logos, etc. I am only providing them as filler characters to provide a more broad range of characters to interact with at Hogwarts.
