Chapter One: The Fate of Things
(Hello and welcome to my second Naruto fanfiction: Naruto of the North. This fanfic will have Norse themes in the Naruto world, including Vikings, an adapted culture for them, and other things that will tie loosely with Norse Mythology. I came up with this idea after finishing the fantastic TV Show, Vikings, and watching creators on YouTube playing the smashingly good game God of War: Ragnarok. On top of those two inspirations, a reader has come to me with the hopes of writing fanfiction where Naruto was also either a werewolf or a vampire. Now, I think I have found a way to add all three of these inspirations into one fanfiction and I hope you all enjoy it. It should also be noted that there will be a harem in this story, as well as lemons though I am debating if I want to risk posting those scenes on or make an alternative version of this story on AO3 with the lemons. Let me know your opinions on that matter. Also, since this is going to be fanfiction in progress I am open to ideas, OC character ideas, and so on. So please, feel free to DM me on with any ideas you may have!)
The office of the Hokage was currently occupied by four people. The first was the Sandaime Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, who was sitting at his desk as he looks over the incomplete Team Seven. Kakashi Hatake, the jounin sensei of the team, stood behind his two students with an orange book in hand. The students were Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha. The two were the only ones not to be assigned to a full team like the rest of their fellow academy graduates, which resulted in them being allowed only on D-Rank missions til a proper third member could be added to their team. This however pist off the Uchiha more and more each day and all that annoyance and anger had finally built up as he mouthed off to the Hokage.
"Lord Hokage, this is ridiculous and unfair. This team is holding me back from getting stronger! I need to be transferred into a full team so I can start taking missions more at my level and stop doing these stupid missions of chasing cats and walking dogs!"
Hiruzen let out a sigh, looking to Kakashi as the last Uchiha rambled on in his fit of rage. "Kakashi, do you approve of him transferring to another team?"
Kakashi didn't even look up from his book as he answered the question. "No, Sasuke needs to stay on my team. I'll be the only one able to properly train his Sharingan if and when it develops."
This only pist Sasuke off more, even though he truly understood the reasoning why. He let out an annoyed huff as he looked back to Hiruzen. "Fine, then at least add a no-team chunin or someone to our team!"
"Sadly, Sasuke, there are no chunin or genin available to do so. Unfortunately, your graduating class had an improper number of graduates, but it is how it is. Now, I have a few D-Rank missions that need to be-"
A knock was heard on the door, cutting off Hiruzen before he could finish pawning off some more mundane jobs to Team Seven. He called for who was knocking to enter and soon came the startled-looking secretary to the Hokage.
"Uhm, Lord Hokage, h-he is back…"
Hiruzen knew exactly who the girl was talking about, and a plan formed in his head as he spoke up. "I see, please send him in."
The secretary nodded, closing the door so she could inform the individual he was allowed to enter. Kakashi looked to Hiruzen, his interest now on this mystery person instead of his book in hand. "She seemed a bit shaken, who is this person, Lord Hokage?"
The elderly man chuckled, looking to Kakashi as he moved for his smoking pipe. "You will see shortly. I think I might have someone to tag to Team Seven, even if it is temporary."
This got Sasuke to smirk, folding his arms in triumph over finally having a third to his team. Finally, he could be able to start doing more serious missions.
Sakura was just happy to be standing next to her beloved crush and seeing him act the way he just did only made her inwardly squeal about how cool and strong she was to get the Hokage to listen to his request. Though on the inside she was a bit hesitant about who this person could be.
Finally after two minutes of waiting the handle of the door turned and opened. Coming through was a boy about a year or so older than the two students in the room. He had four long, flowing golden braids that ran to the back of his head and down his shoulders. He stood a good foot taller than the other teens, seeming to stand at 6'0" on the dote if one was to guess. The fifteen-year-old man wore a leather tunic over his chest with fur and leather spaulder on his right shoulder. At the collar of the tunic were the clasps to the cloak he wore that had the hood down to show off his soft sapphire eyes and a single scar across his left eye. There were also what looked like whisker marks on his cheeks, four on each side. He wore thick leather trousers in addition to the tunic, and heavy hide boots to finish the ensemble. It looked like everything he wore was made by hand, the stitching well cared for when being made the outfit all that more unique.
Then there were the two things that stood out to him. On his free shoulder a small, cute orange fox kit sat on his. The fox looked down at the others in the room seeming to eye them intently before giving a shrug of its shoulders and going to rest in the hood of his cloak. The last detail was the twin bearded, one-handed axes that rested in their holsters on the belt at his hips. Both blades were solid, balanced, and had the engravings of a wolf swallowing the sun. The shafts of the axes were solid black with engravings of chains engraved in red along the wooden poles.
When the team saw the boy, they instantly knew what sort of person he was. He was one of the raiders that assaulted the Elemental Nations from time to time. The stories of men unafraid of death with fury in battle were legendary across all the nations and the rumors of their homeland far in the north sea spoke of a land of frozen tundras and ever-flowing fields. The man before them, from his appearance, was one of these legendary people. He had to be one of the Nords.
This got Team Seven on edge as the boy walked into the office, going right past them as he made his way to the desk of the Hokage and placed several scrolls on the wooden surface. When he pulled his hand away from the scrolls the boy spoke up.
"The mission is finished, Hokage. I eliminated the camps of rogue ninjas settling in the mountains within your borders. In addition to their heads in the scrolls you gave me, I also ran into some B-Ranked missing ninjas from the other villages. I would like to collect their bounties."
Hiruzen just smiled at the boy, taking the scrolls away to be processed before looking back at him. "Thank you, Fen. I hope it was not too much trouble for you. Your assistance in these things has been very helpful. Hopefully, we will have more academy hopefuls to come so we won't need your assistance for much longer."
Fen just shook his head, crossing his arms. The leather of his tunic could be heard straining, implying the muscle underneath the animal hide he wore. "Nonsense, Hokage. I am happy to help the Hidden Leaf. Whatever it is you need me to do, just say so."
Hiruzen smirked at this, looking to Team Seven with a snicker that told them they were about to have their third member. "Well, if that is the case Fen, I would like to request something a bit different from a typical mission."
This made the Nord raise an eyebrow at the older man. "I see…what is it that you wish for me to do?"
"Well, as you know our academy graduation rates have been slowly declining. Which causes us to have short-handed teams in the field. I would like to assign you to one such team. They are in the room with us as you can see."
The boy turned to look at the stunned faces of Kakashi, Sakura, and Sasuke. He eyed them for a second before looking back to Hiruzen. "You know I can not actively be part of any ninja operations in the village, Hiruzen. Your damn council made that clear."
"Yes, I am aware of what they said. However, you can not act as a mercenary on a team. But, if you were a ninja of the Hidden Leaf…"
Fen just looked at the man like he was crazy. "I am no ninja, I do not fight as you do. I will not learn those ways either, to do so would dishonor my clan. I only come here to help this village due to my ties to a previous leader, nothing more."
Hiruzen had to let out a sigh, he was hoping this would be easy. "I understand that, and I am not asking you to become a ninja. Many people choose open combat over stealthy arts in our ranks. You've met a few of them in the past. We could use someone like you in Konoha."
The boy just sighed, loudly enough to wake the fox kit in his hood. The small orange kit popped its head out of the cloak and looked at its companion. Fen turned to the fox, looking into its eyes before sighing and looking back to Hiruzen. "How long would I have to be assigned to their team? I'll take one of those stupid forehead protectors, but I am not putting it on my head."
This made Team Seven a bit angry at their village's crest being called stupid. They were about to voice their annoyance but Hiruzen raised his hand to stop them before they spoke up. "Very well, we just ask that you have it showing on your person. I will not make you conduct the academy graduation tests since your work in the field already qualifies you beyond what we expect our genin to do. As for how long, I will ask you to stay with them til after the Chunin Exams in a few months. After that, it is up to you."
Fen thought about it for a moment, nodding in agreement to this before looking to the team he was just assigned to. "My name is Fen, last of the Norung Clan of the Northern Realm. It appears I will be accompanying you for the next few months."
Kakashi looked over at the boy. He could tell the kid had seen combat several times before, and the aura of pure dominance that came off of him told the seasoned jounin that this kid was anything but a pushover. This made him even more curious though. He looked at Sasuke and Sakura.
"I want you two to take Fen out and do the introductions like we did when I first got you. I need to stay and talk to the Hokage a bit further."
Sakura looked like she wanted to protest being paired with one of the brutes from the north, but was stopped when Sasuke spoke up before she could. "Okay, sensei. We will be at the top of the Hokage Tower."
Kakashi nodded to the two of them before looking at Fen. The Nord just shrugged his shoulders, making the fox sitting on them slide a bit before finding its place again. The three youngsters made their way out of the room, leaving only Kakashi and Hiruzen in the office to talk. The jounin looked to the Kage, seeing the smirk on the old man's face as he inhaled from his pipe.
"You have some questions, Kakashi, so go ahead and ask them. I'll answer the ones I can before I must continue this paperwork of mine."
Kakashi just sighed as he put the book that had been in his hand into the back pouch of his belt. "You are seriously expecting this to work out? He is a Nord, a mindless brute only able to kill without thinking. Why would you add him to my team let alone as a genin to the village?"
This made the elder chuckle. He reached into a drawer of the desk before pulling out a file. He handed it to Kakashi, who took it skeptically before opening it. He read over the contents and his one visible eyes went wide. He looked back to the Hokage, who was just grinning ear to ear as Kakashi read.
"Fen is not a true Nord, Kakashi. He is the son of the late Minato Namikaze. His birth name was Naruto. You are aware that the clan that Fen belongs to is the same clan that helped Minato and Kushina that night, correct?"
Of course, Kakashi knew that, everyone in the village knew that. It was Norung Clan that aided in capturing the Kyuubi. Though what happened to the Kyuubi was still unknown, what happen to Minato was not. It is said that to buy the Norung Clan enough time to prepare their ritual to contain the nine-tailed fox Minato acted as bait for the fox. However, this only worked so well til a slip of one of the power tails smacked Minato hard into the dirt by accident when Minato was trying to flash behind the fox to land a Rasengan to its back. The injuries killed the mighty Fourth Hokage instantly but ended up giving them enough time to properly contain the Kyuubi. After that, the Kyuubi went missing. What was unknown to them all was the fact that the reason the Norung Clan agreed so quickly to help was because of the secret union between Minato and the daughter of their Jarl then. That union gave birth to Naruto, a son of both the Northern Realms and the Elemental Nations. And now that secret was given to Kakashi, who dropped the file after reading about it all.
The copy ninja looked to the Hokage with shock in his eyes. "So wait, that means that Naruto…he is sensei's son." He looked down for a moment, feeling guilty that he had no clue his mentor had a son that no one knew about. He felt betrayed in a sense, how could Minato not tell him about the child when they were so close? The clearing of a throat got him out of his thoughts, returning his gaze to Kakashi.
"The only reason I let you know all of this is because I know how close you were to Minato. I am afraid, though, that I must ask you to keep this a secret from the others."
Kakashi had to sit down at this revelation. "Lord Hokage, why did we let the Nords take him with them then? He should have belonged here, with us."
Hiruzen shook his head, looking to the confused jounin sitting on his couch. "No, that would have been a bad idea in the end. From what I can understand of the Nord lifestyle and their unique biology, they can not be properly raised in lands such as our own."
Kakashi looked back at Hiruzen now more confused than before. "Their biology?"
Hiruzen let out a sigh, taking another drag of his pipe and letting the smoke ease through his lips before he continued. "Yes, their biology. Have you ever wondered why most of the jutsu we have in our arsenal do not work against them?"
This did pique Kakashi's interest, a bit of curiosity now mixing with his confusion. This was the reaction Hiruzen was looking for before he continued. "From my research into the matter, the Nords are born with an immense amount of chakra, though their people call it mana. However, they are unable to manifest their chakra into jutsus like our own. Now, having so much chakra building up inside someone is toxic for their well-being, but the Nords have adapted to this. Their harsh, cold regions act as a sort of training ground for their chakra their entire lives. The chakra seeps and molds in with their skin and bones, giving them a slow immunity to the hard climate as they grow older. Typically their adaptation to their chakra matures fully at the age of twelve, which results in their skin being able to resist the chakra of our jutsus up to C-Rank at that age. Even though it fully matures at twelve, its chakra is constantly growing and adapting to its body. This is the reason why they can shrug off most B and A-Ranked ninjutsu with little work. This would also explain why the Nords are bulkier and taller than most of our people. Their chakra forces them to grow to be able to handle it."
"Another ability they seemed to have from their unique chakra reserves is that their blood is saturated in it. They use this to their advantage by mixing their blood when writing or etching their Runes into their clothing, weapons, and so on. This infuses the items with their chakra, making them more sturdy, durable, and deadly. There are even some Runes that can coat their weapons in elemental chakra. Like we had seen when the Norung Clan was using flaming axes to help fend off the Kyuubi during its attack."
This was slowly being aborded into Kakashi's head, trying to understand Naruto's unique ability to be immune to most ninjutsu. He had to think about what he wanted to ask next, but an idea popped into his head easily enough.
"So do you think since he is half Nord and half Namikaze he can use jutsu like us?"
Hiruzen nodded, looking down at the file he picked up off the floor. "He already has some aptitude in ninjutsu, though everything else is a mystery. There is more to Fen than I am letting on, but I think it better to hear what he can do from his lips and not mine."
Kakashi nodded, standing up and looking at the Hokage one last time. "I understand, I will test him before we take any more missions. I want to know what he is capable of beforehand."
"That is understandable, though Kakashi, I should warn you of what he holds inside him."
~~Hokage Tower Roof~~
Fen leaned against the railing of the tower's roof, looking over the horizon. His new teammates stood behind him. Sasuke was the first to talk.
"Alright, brute, how this works is we tell each other our names, likes, dislikes, and goals for the future. I'll go first."
Sasuke saw that his new teammate didn't even look around to look at him while he spoke. He just summed it up to the Nord being brainless of his people known to be. "My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I dislike many things, and I like even fewer. My goal is to restore my clan and kill the person responsible for its near genocide."
He looked to Sakura, who was red in the face at the utter disrespect Fen was showing her beloved Sasuke. "My name is Sakura Haruno. I like, well, a certain someone. I dislike rude people who ignore others when they are trying to talk. And my goal is to someday be with a certain person I like. Alright, oaf, it's your turn now."
Fen just kept his eyes on the horizon. He did hear everything they said, but he cared little about them. This was just a job for him to do after all. He sighed, turning around and looking at them to talk.
"My name is Fen Norung. I like fighting, hunting, and befriending animals. I dislike people who are arrogant or think the world is owed to them. My goal is to one day restore order to the Northern Realms and restore my clan to its full glory."
The two native Leaf ninja looked at their new teammate a bit lost. They had no clue something was going on with the Northern Realm. From their knowledge, be it limited, that region of the world always had some sort of peace in their borders.
Sasuke was the first to speak up, looking to Fen with more curiosity in his voice now. "What happened to the Northern Realms?"
Fen just looked at Sasuke as if he had brought up a brought memory, which he did. To this Fen just turned around, looking back over the horizon as they waited for Kakashi. "Ragnarok happened. Leave it at that."
With that Fen just ignored the annoying calls for answers from the two behind him. He didn't care to reveal anything to them, they hadn't earned that right. Before the two could start to piss Fen off Kakashi finally came to the roof. He looked to the three, eyeing Fen since he was away from his two students and seemed to be ignoring them. He sighed, hoping what he was about to do next might settle some of the issues starting to pop up.
"Alright, Fen. My team will be testing your skills before we go into any mission. Please follow us to Training Ground Seven."
"I'll meet you three there, I know where it is."
That's all that could be said before Fen made a simple flick of his wrist and he was gone. The three of them looked at where Fen was standing, and Kakashi's eyes were wide. "W-Was that…the sunshin?"
Sasuke and Sakura looked at their sensei, eyes wide at what they just saw. "Did that brute just use a jutsu?!"
~~Training Ground Seven~~
Fen had gotten to the training ground before the others, sitting on one of the posts that stood in the middle of the field surrounded by a forest. He had one of his axes in hand, using a whetstone to sharpen it as he looked toward the direction of the village. He wasn't too sure if he was happy to be doing this, but he knew his mission. He needed to get stronger and understand his blood and the abilities it can give him.
It was nearly a year ago when Fen discovered his heritage from his mother, who spoke to him all the truths he needed to hear before their village was consumed in the conflict that was brought on by Ragnarok. When he thought back to his mother he gripped his hatchet tighter, the sorrow and anger coursing inside him as he remember what happened to her.
The fox on his shoulder sensed the tension within him and was quick to lick his cheek to get his attention. Fen looked at the kit, smiling as the creature rubbed his cheek with its soft fur. He brought a hand up to scratch the back of the fox's ear, making the creature let out a noise of comfort as they waited. As he comforted the fox he turned his eyes back to the horizon.
"Kibi, do you think this is the right thing to do? Staying here and helping them like this?"
The fox stopped its ear rubbing to jump off of Fen's shoulder, getting down on the ground and looking up at him with a foxy smile. "Yes, I think so. I know your father would want you to learn the other side of your ancestry. And you need the strength to go back home."
Fen sighed, looking down at Kibi as he smiled. The fox just kept her smile in turn, running her head against his legs as he tried to comfort him. He was enjoying the sensation of warmth coming from the kit. She was the only friend she had left, one of the few things that reminded him of home. Of his village. Of his mother and clan.
He sensed something being hurled at Kibi with great force, and before the object could make contact with the fox he grabbed it. It turned out to be one of the kunai the people of the Elemental Nations tended to use. He looked at the tree line, seeing Sakura seething with anger while Sasuke and Kakashi didn't seem too pleased by what they saw either.
"You have a demon fox with you! How dare you bring that sort of vile creature into this village!" She screamed out, pulling another kunai from her pouch while her teammates didn't seem to want to stop her. Fen frowned, picking up Kibi as she was shaking violently at the thought there was so much anger for her kind here. He brought Kibi back to his shoulder where she hid behind his neck as she felt the anger coming at her from their glares.
"Kibi has been with me since I was no older than a month. She is my closest companion and trusted ally. Why would I not bring her with me?"
"Are you that stupid, you oaf?" Sasuke asked, the three Leaf ninja approaching the two with eyes full of venom. "This village was attacked by The Kyuubi and killed hundreds of our people that defend the village. Foxes, especially demon foxed like that one, are to be killed on sight."
This pissed Fen off now, the boy taking the other hatchet from his belt and with both in hand ran the blades against one another to spark them into being covered in electricity. "I welcome you or any in this village to attack Kibi again. I know what her family's matriarch has done in the past, but she and her kin are not guilty of Kyuubi's actions."
"Of course she is guilty! She is from the same family as that monster!"
Fen raised an eyebrow at this, eyeing Sasuke after what he just said. "With that logic, you are guilty of all of the things that your ancestors have done. I know of Madara Uchiha, and the awful things he tried to do against the village and others. Should I kill you for his crimes?"
This made a tick mark grow on both Sakura and Sasuke's foreheads. Before things could escalate any further Kakashi decided to finally step in. "Alright, that's enough of that. Fen does have a point, to damn a kit like that for the Kyuubi's actions means we should condemn you for what your family has done in the past, Sasuke."
This did cause the tension to lower somewhat, but the anger was still there. He sighed, stepping a few feet away, and looked between the two and Fen. "Alright, I want to see how strong you are Fen. It's simple, these two will try to take you down either by knockout or by submission. Your goal is the same. The winner gets dinner on me tonight."
Fen nodded, keeping his axes in hand as their electricity seemed to bounce about in anticipation. Sasuke and Sakura looked to Fen, both confident they could take down the idiotic oaf and in the same stroke take care of that fox.
Kakashi looked back and forth between the two, nodding before bridging his hand down to start the match. "Go!"
Before Sakura or Sasuke could make a move Fen was gone in the blink of their eyes. They looked around, trying to find where he went. They looked everywhere put up. By the time they realized what was happening they saw the shadow looming over them as Fen spoke up.
"Cry of the Wolf!"
The Nord boy took a deep breath before a loud, bellowing howl was barreling down on them. The two ninjas had to cover their ears as they felt the intense ringing panging into their ears. The pain was intense, causing the two of them to stumble and sway before falling onto the ground. By the time Fen landed on the ground the two were soundly knocked out, some blood leaking from their ears before he cleared his throat. Kibi, still on his shoulder, yipped in triumph at seeing the two that wanted to kill her knocked out.
"Good job Fen! Now, you should take them out for good before they get a chance to attack me again!"
Fen turned and looked at Kibi, shaking his head with an amused smirk on his lips. "No, sadly I am on their team now Kibi. I can't kill them even if I wanted to."
The fox kit pouted, sticking her nose up in the air as she let off a flare of annoyance at her friend before going back into her hood. He sighed, knowing he would not hear the end of this later on. He turned to Kakashi, who was checking up on Sasuke and Sakura. He waved some foul-smelling salts in front of their noses which perked them out of their unconsciousness but made Fen want to vomit.
"What the hell is that shit?" He asked, trying hard not to regurgitate the lunch he had earlier in the day. Kakashi turned to him, raising an eyebrow at the sickened look on Fen's face.
"They are smelling salts, helps wake people up that get knocked out. What, have you never seen or used them before?"
Fen just shook his head as he backed away from the smell, getting a good few feet away before taking a deep breath. "No, and I never hope to smell that shit again. It's so rancid."
This gave Kakashi one of his infamous eye smiles, tossing the salt away before speaking up. "Well, I didn't expect them to fall that quickly, but a deal is a deal. So, let's go get some dinner."
Fen shook his head again, taking a few more deep breaths before looking back at Kakashi. "No, thank you. I prefer to hunt my food over eating from another's plate. In my home, hunting and preparing your food is proper over taking it from others."
Kakashi just shrugged his shoulders at that. "Alright, just means I get to keep my Ryo in my pocket. We will be meeting at the Hokage Tower tomorrow to get a new assignment. Be there at seven am sharp."
The Nord just nodded, putting his hatchets back into their holsters before making his way into the woods. When he was gone the two genin looked to Kakashi a bit bewildered.
"Sensei, was that a jutsu? I thought Nords couldn't use jutsu?"
Kakashi brought his hand up to his chin in thought to Sakura's question. "Traditionally, that's what we know. But it seems there is more to Fen than we realize."
~~Forests of Konohagakure~~
Fen was stalking in the foliage of the forests surrounding the northern end of the village with a bow in hand and arrow notched but not drawn. He was silently making his way through the dense fauna that help keep the prey from the predators. He kept his arrow pointed to the ground, each step silent and soft on the mush ground under his weight. He had picked up the scent of a deer, a buck to be more precise. He kept inching closer and closer towards the scent, keeping his eyes peeled and his nose inhaling the scent of the area. He had lost his targets before to the predators of the wild, but he learned to outsmart them. That was back in the Northern Realm, not here though. He knew very little of the wildlife of the Elemental Nations.
After a few more minutes of tracking, he was able to spot the deer drinking from a stream in the forest. When he saw the animal he aimed, slowly drawing the string back, and he pointed his arrow toward the deer. He took a deep breath, steadying his breathing before letting the strong go and the arrow fly towards the beasts. The arrow made its mark with a loud THUD to the animal's chest. Fen rushed to the downed animal, seeing that his shot was successful, and pierced the heart of the buck and gave it a clean, painless death.
With practiced skill and rehearsed speed, Fen started to gut the deer, removing the intestines and stomach before the liver and other organs of the animal. While he worked the corpse of the deer his scent was flooded by the smell of blood, blocking the scent of others coming to his location. He ripped the last of the innards and washed his bloody hands off in the stream. When he turned back to the deer he found himself staring down three hounds that were eyeing the deer with hunger. Fen was quick to go to them which caused the hounds to growl lowly as they watched the man. When he saw their wariness he moved slower, kneeling to the carcass and cutting a few ribs from the body, and tossing them to the dogs. This seemed to calm the animals down, taking the ribs and gnawing on them. Unaware to him another was watching him.
The girl watched as her canine companions were easily swayed from taking the entire deer for themselves. She watched the strange man feed the ribs to them, and her friends taking them and backing away. She found the smile on the man's lips rather calming, like a predator at ease in their environment. The girl watched as a small fox kit popped out of the man's hood, tipping when he offered it a small cut of meat from the deer before tossing the heavy buck over his shoulders. He held the front and back legs of the deer over his shoulders, using it to carry the carcass like one would with a heavy sack. The fox just climbed up onto the man's head and nibbled on the meat. It was a cute sight, all in all.
She was confused by the fact that there was a fox in the area of the village. She thought the ruthless and stupid people of Konoha killed the population in the area. Though when she looked at the kit, she couldn't help but feel like this was a species not known to the region. That would make more sense since it was clear that that boy was a Nord based on his rugged leather attire and hatchets on his hips. She watched as the man walked away somewhere deeper into the forest, leaving her companions satisfied with their little treat.
As soon as he was gone the girl came out of the forest, coming down to her companions and giving them a quick once over before giving them some affection. Behind her, another dog came out, which was followed by another woman. The two seemed to share some features since they both have red, triangular markings on their cheeks.
"So you sensed that presence too huh?" The older woman asked as she joined the younger at the edge of the stream, seeing the leftovers of the man's hunt being eaten by the three dogs. The dog that came with the older woman, the one missing half its ear and an eyepatch over a missing eye, went and joined the others on the feast left behind by the hunter. The younger girl looked up at her, offering a nod.
"Yes, I felt him too. He gives off the sense of a pack leader, but he is a man. Do you know why he would have such an aura to him, mother?"
The elder woman just shrugged her shoulders, looking at the trail of blood the man left behind when he took his prize away. "Could be a few reasons. He could be an Inuzuka and be that powerful, but it was clear he was one of those Nords. Another possibility would be that he holds a tailed beast, but all are accounted for baring the nine tails. But the scent he gives off isn't that of a fox, but of a wolf. A powerful one at that."
"True enough, but he did have a fox with him. Could he maybe be using some sort of jutsu to mask the scent of a fox?"
The mother shook her head, kneeling down and giving her canine companion a scratch behind his good ear. "No, Nords can't use jutsu. Whatever we sensed is all him Hana."
Hana just nodded, looking back down the stream where the blood trail headed. "Should we warn the Hokage of a Nord in the area?"
The older woman had to think for a moment about this. "He might be that Nord I heard about doing missions for the village. If I recall, he is without a clan and likely harmless to the village. Though keeping an eye on him a bit longer might not be a bad idea."
The two gave each other a look, understanding the same thing before they got up and started to stalk the trail left behind by the man. They wanted to observe him more, he was certainly an odd sight not to mention very interesting. No Nord ever got on their radar as this one has.
The two made their way toward the man, hoping to learn some more about him before the night got too late.
(Author's Notes)
And that is the first chapter of Naruto of the North! I want to point out that I am not giving up on Naruto Shingami. I just need a break from it since it's all I've been working on for the last week or so. Besides, I am liking this idea some more the more I think about it. Not to mention, I am eager to see how I can get the individual that messaged me the idea into this the long run of this story. Also, as I said earlier before the chapter began, this will be a harem story at the end of the day. And since I already have a list of people I want to be part of the said harem, it might make it easier for me to write and flush things out compared to how I made the choices on the fly with Naruto Shingami. Anyways, thank you for reading! Expect the next chapter soon!
