Summary: What if Gladys Sharp had a niece? Ciara Foster tries to think of a story for her book and get it published. When she hears that the forest animals are stealing food and that her aunt hires an exterminator to get rid of them, Ciara decides to help the animals to take down the exterminator and her evil aunt

Rated K for violence

This is my first Over The Hedge FanFiction story and I hope it goes well.

The story will take place during the events in Over The Hedge.

Ciara Foster will be voiced by Alexis Bledel, who portrayed Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls (2000-2007) and Ryden Malby from Post Grad (2009). This character is based on me. I really want to write a book of my own and get it published.

Benjamin "Ben" Rogers will be voiced by Milo Ventimiglia, who portrayed Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls (2000-2007)

I watched Over The Hedge when I was a kid, the movie was really good. As I was watching it, I was all "Why not write a FanFiction story on Over The Hedge?" So, I did.

I don't own Over The Hedge. Dreamworks does. I own Ciara Foster and Benjamin "Ben" Rogers.

Here's chapter 1

Chapter 1

One sunny morning in El Rancho Camelot, a 22-year-old woman who's wearing a white tank top with a blue cardigan, blue jeans, and black flats walks to the backyard with a composition notebook and sits down in a chair. Her name is Ciara Foster, who graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing last year. She opens her notebook, takes out a pencil, and tries to think of a story for her book.

She sighs. Why can't I think of anything? Ciara thought.

She gets up from the chair, takes her notebook, and heads back into the house.

"Hey, Aunt Gladys," Ciara said.

"Hi, Ciara, how's the book coming?" Gladys asked while pouring herself a cup of coffee.

"I'm trying to think of something. Really, I am. But, I can't. Anyway, I'm heading out; do you want me to get anything while I'm in town?" Ciara asked as she grabbed her purse, car keys, phone, and her laptop case that contains her laptop, charger, and USB drive.

"Honey, I'm sorry that you can't think of anything for your story and no, you don't have to do that. So, where are you going?" Gladys asked.

"I'm heading to the coffee shop, and maybe find a book at the bookstore," Ciara said.

"Okay, I'm heading out as well. I'm going to the store to get the stuff we needed. Is there anything that you need while I'm at the store?" Gladys asked.

"I think that I need a new set of pens, but I can get them while I'm out," Ciara said.

"Your pens ran out of ink again?" Gladys asked.

"Yep, it happens every time when I write with a pen," Ciara explained.

"I know. Alright, call me if you need anything else,"

"I will,"

*OTH*

Ciara went to Diner 67; she got out of the car, headed inside, and sat down at the table. The waiter walks up to her.

"Hi good morning, what can I get you today?" The waiter asked.

"I would like a fruity waffle," Ciara said.

"What fruit would you like on your waffle?" The waiter asked.

"Strawberry, please, with the side of bacon and eggs," Ciara said.

"How do you like your eggs?"

"Fried no runny yolk,"

"Alright, and what do you want for a drink?"

"Iced tea,"

"Okay, I'll bring that out to you,"

"Thank you,"

Then, the waiter left and Ciara takes out her notebook and her pencil. As she begins to think, the doors open, she looks up and sees a 22-year-old man who is wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and black converse.

"Ben?" The man turns around and sees her.

"Ciara," Ben graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature last year. He walks up to Ciara and the two friends hugged each other.

"How are you? Ciara asked.

"I'm good you?" Ben responded.

"I'm good too, trying to write a book but I haven't thought of anything right now," Ciara said in distress. Ben puts his arm around her in comfort.

"Hey, it's going to be alright. You'll come up with something, I know you can," Ben said with encouragement.

"Thanks, Ben," Ciara said. The waiter returned with Ciara's with the waffles, eggs, bacon, and iced tea.

"Thank you," she said to the waiter. Then, the waiter turns to Ben.

"Is there anything that I can get you?" he asked.

"Iced tea, please," Ben said.

"Coming right up," the waiter said then left. Ciara started eating her breakfast and then drink her iced tea.

"Since we haven't seen each other since high school, we have a lot of catching up to do," Ben said.

"Yes, we do," Ciara agreed.

"So, where did you go to college after high school?" Ben asked.

"After high school, I went to Yale University, I wrote for the Yale Daily News as a writer in my freshman year then, I became editor in chief in my senior year, and I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing. What about you?" Ciara said.

"That's great that you went to Yale, I knew you would get in. I went to Harvard University then; I started tutoring some other students who needed help in English classes at the tutoring center, and I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature," Ben said.

"Thanks, Ben, and I'm happy for you too," Ciara said.

"Thank you, Ciara," Ben said.

"You're welcome so, how's your mom?" Ciara asked.

"She's good; she helped a female German Shepherd give birth to her puppies," Ben said.

"Really? How many puppies did she have?"

"She had eight puppies; 4 boys and 4 girls,"

"Aw!"

"Yeah, do you want to see them?" Ben asked as he pulled his phone out from his pocket.

"Yes," Ciara said as Ben found the photos of the puppies. Ciara looked at the photo with awe.

"They're so cute!" Ciara said.

"I know, do you remember that we went to visit the vet when we were in high school before we went to O'Gara and Wilson Ltd. Antiqurian Booksellers?" Ben asked.

"Yeah, you help your mom with the animals and I would come to talk to you and your mom," Ciara said. Then, the waiter came back with Ben's iced tea.

"Thank you," Ben said.

"You're welcome is there anything else that I can get for you?" The waiter said.

"No, thank you, but we need the check please," Ciara said.

"Alright, I'll bring it to you," The waiter said as he left. Ben took a sip of his iced tea.

"So, is there anything else going on with you besides trying to write a book?" Ben asked.

"Well, you remember my aunt Gladys Sharp?" Ciara asked.

"Is she the President of the Home Owner's Association?" Ben asked.

"Yeah, she's planning a 'Welcome to the Neighborhood' party and I was wondering if you want to go. If not, then it's fine," Ciara said.

"Hey, I live in El Rancho Camelot too, so I'm going," Ben said.

"Oh, I'll see you there," Ciara said.

"I'll see you there, too. Hey, have you ever thought about what you want to do with your life besides writing?" Ben said.

"I haven't even thought about it. What about you? What are you going to do?" Ciara said.

"I'm going to be teaching English," Ben said.

"That's great! Where are you going to teach English at?"

"Here at Chesterfield, but I'm going to be substituting before I become a teacher full time,"

"Well, I'm happy for you,"

"Thanks, Ciara,"

"You're welcome," Then, the waiter came to their table with the check.

"Here's your check, come again soon," The waiter said.

"Thank you," Ben and Ciara said as Ciara handed the waiter the total.

"You're welcome," The waiter said.

"Keep the change," Ciara said.

"Thank you and have a great day to you both," The waiter said.

"You too," Ben said as the waiter left.

Ciara took out her wallet and left a tip for the waiter that served them.

*OTH*

"Where are you heading now?" Ben asked as they left Diner 67.

"I'm heading to the Tree of Life Books & Gifts to find a book," Ciara said.

"You know what? I was just on my way there as well. Why don't we go together?"

"Sure,"

After Ben and Ciara left Diner 67, they drove to the Tree of Life Books & Gifts, headed inside, and went to look for books to buy.

"So, what book are you going to buy?" Ben asked.

"I'm thinking about getting Dear John (A/N 1) and Wuthering Heights (A/N 2). I really want the Chronicles of Prydain series (A/N 3) and the Foundling and Other Tales of Prydain (A/N 4), but I can get them later when I save enough money," Ciara said.

"Cool. I'm gonna get Animal Farm (A/N 5) and To Kill a Mockingbird (A/N 6)," Ben said.

The two friends from high school bought the books that they want, paid for them, and then left the bookstore. Ben and Ciara walked to the parking lot.

"This was fun," Ciara said.

"Yeah, it was. We should do this again sometime," Ben said.

"Oh, yes, we should,"

"Alright, let me give you my phone number so we can talk to each other,"

"Okay,"

Ben and Ciara pull their phones out, exchange phone numbers, and give each other's phones back.

"Alright, it was really nice catching up with you, I'll talk to you later,"

"You too, bye, Ciara,"

Ciara waved bye to Ben got in her car and drove off back to El Rancho Camelot. As Ciara pulled up to the house, she takes out her house key, unlocks the door, and comes inside. She goes to her room to put her purse, laptop case, and her bag with her new books inside on her bed. Then goes downstairs, sits down on the couch, and grabs the cat brush.

"Here kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty," Ciara called the cat. A Persian cat walked up to her and got onto her lap.

"Hello, Ciara. How's your day?" Tiger said.

"It was good. I went to Diner 67 for breakfast; I also got to see Ben I think that you remember that I talked about him sometimes," Ciara said as she brushes him.

"Yes, I remember that. So, what else happened?" The cat asked.

"We went to the Tree of Life Books & Gifts to go get books,"

"What did you get?"

"I got Dear John and Wuthering Heights, and after that, Ben and I exchanged phone numbers so that we can call and text each other,"

"It sounded like you have fun,"

"I really did fun. Okay, let me see if you are done," Ciara said. She looked at the cat to see if he needed to be brushed more. "You're done. You look good as usual,"

"Thank you, Ciara,"

"You're welcome,"
