"Turn left at Penrose Ave and continue straight for 1.6 miles." I did just that as I listened to my maps navigate me to my destination. I made sure to leave dad's house early in attempts to not arrive late on my first day. I was so grateful to my professor for helping me find such a prestigious internship at Destler LLC. Not only was I going to be able to fill in for a secretary spot at Destler LLC, I was going to fill in for the secretary of the CEO! AND, I got to do my internship at the same place as my best friend!
"Turn right onto Nightingale Lane." As I turned right I could not believe I was actually doing this. I'm finally working a big girl job! Mamá would have been so proud of me! "You have arrived. Your destination will be on your left, 666 Nightingale Lane." I couldn't stop myself from squealing with delight once I saw the size of the huge building. I made my way over to the parking garage for instructions.
"Hello, welcome to Destler LLC. Where may I direct you?" said the parking lot attendant with a big smile on her face. "Hello, I am Christine Daae. I am actually starting my internship here today," I said. "Let me check my computer and then I'll give you your pass and direct you to your parking area." I sat for a while waiting for her to find me in the system. "Okay! Here is your pass. Your parking area will be near the CEO and COO of the company and should say 'CEO sec.' on it," she said while handing me my parking pass. "Thank you," I replied as I placed it on my windshield. "Oh, before I forget. Since you are the CEO's secretary you don't need to stop in here on your way in. There is a different entrance on the right hand side of the building which you can use to bypass the line. See you on your way out!" she exclaimed with an even bigger smile.
I pulled into my parking area and spotted the cars near me. The CEO, whoever he or she was, drove a black Bentley Flying Spur. The COO drove a white Porsche Panamera 4s. I could always thank my advanced knowledge of cars to my brother, Bradley. Just by looking at their cars in comparison to my 2016 Toyota Camry, I could tell that I still had so much to learn about business if I wanted to be any bit as successful as these two.
I exited my car and made my way towards the entrance of the building while adjusting my skirt and blazer with every other step. Once I entered the building I spotted a small reception desk. There was a pretty blonde woman sitting at a computer. "Hello. What can I do for you?," she asked without enough care to make her want to look up from her computer. "Ur, I'm Christine Daae… I'm starting my internship today," I said nervously. She looked up with a fake smile and said, "Have a seat over there. I'll have someone come and get you." I walked away as soon as I was given directions. I was just starting to think that everyone in the building was nice until I met this receptionist.
After about five minutes I heard a voice next to me. "Christine?" I turned to find a very beautiful woman with blonde hair in a French twist, blue eyes and wearing a black short sleeved dress which helped show off a small protruding baby bump. I stood up quickly, reaching out my hand. "Yes. I'm Christine Daae. Pleased to meet you." "Likewise, I'm Sorelli Martin. I was Mr. Erik Destler's secretary and will be training you in the position today," she said as she took my hand. She looked around me, searching near where I was sitting. "Were you offered anything to drink?" "Er, no actually. I was just told to take a seat and wait." Sorelli looked up at the receptionist who was now looking at us both with a red tint to her cheeks. "Stacey, I hope you've gotten to know Ms. Christine Daae who is actually taking over my position. Do us both a favor and grab us some drinks and bring them to my desk upstairs, will you? I'll take an apple cider with some sugar and grab Ms. Daae a cappuccino. Oh, and Stacey? You'll be answering to Ms. Daae after today so make sure you treat her to mine and Mr. Destler's liking." The Stacey girl walked off with a bright red face to comply with Sorelli's desires.
Sorelli and I made our way over towards the elevator shortly after that encounter. "Oh my gosh, that was the coolest thing ever," I exclaimed once we got on the elevator. Sorelli laughed with me for a while. "I know! I have heard so many complaints about her but she would never do any of that stuff to me because she answers to me. The others on the other hand must take her rudeness." I gave a small chuckle. "Well that should be awkward, now that she knows who I am." Sorelli let out a small laugh as the elevator door dinged open. "Well you'll have to tell me about it once I'm gone!"
"Follow me, I will show you to your desk." She walked me straight to the end of the large hall where a large, expensive looking desk was stationed. Once we reached the desk I noticed there was a brand new Mac there for me to use to help me do any paperwork and search for appointments and people in the Destler LLC system. "I hope you like the desk and computer. Mr. Destler made sure to get you a brand new computer, if you look in the top right drawer of the desk you will find a brand new macbook there as well as a new iPhone 11 Pro Max. All of these will serve you for your work and will serve as your means of getting in touch with Mr. Destler," she said.
This was so much information for me to take in on the first day. I just got here and I've already been given a new series of electronics. Sorelli must have sensed that I was getting overwhelmed. "I know that it's a lot of information to take in on the first day, that's the same way I felt when I started here. I've been here since the company first opened, 6 years ago," she said. We sat at the desk for a while. Sorelli was an amazing person and worker, she sure was leaving behind enormous shoes to fill. I just hoped to be any bit as good as her.
"Now that we have gone over the basics, lets go ahead and introduce you to the person you will be serving the most. You and will be spending a lot of time together. Don't forget that you will be at his beck and call. You are in charge of handling his meetings, appointments, and travel. You will need to be sure that you have a free enough schedule to be with Mr. Destler at any and all of these events. Mr. Destler will be in constant communication with you at all times and he expects answers in a timely manner so be sure to always have a way to communicate with him. His number is already entered into the new cellphone and his is the first email that will pop up when sending emails." I was starting to become even more overwhelmed than I had initially started off as.
We made our way over to some glass double doors which were a little further back behind my desk. Once we were behind the doors we had to follow a corridor that led to two large steel double doors with a small buzzer near it. Sorelli pressed the buzzer and we heard a voice over the intercom. "Go ahead, Sorelli," said the most beautiful voice that I have ever heard on a man. "Mr. Destler, I am here with Ms. Daae. The student doing the internship," she said. "Very well, bring her in Mrs. Martin." The double doors opened up once preceded by a small buzzing sound. Nothing would have ever prepared me for the sights I saw before me once I walked into the room.
